The book of Second Samuel tells the account of King David's rise to prominence and his spectacular fall. He unites the tribes, sets up Jerusalem as the capital city, and centralizes worship. He is truly a man after God's own heart! Yet David also fails miserably. He is an unfaithful husband and a severely disengaged father. In the midst of all this, David remains a central figure pointing us to our True King Jesus, the Man OF God's own heart.

In 1 Samuel 24, David cuts off a part of Saul's robe and is 'struck in the heart!' What's that all about?
In the Book of Acts, Luke is clear that the gospel stories are just the beginning of what Jesus "began to do and to teach." The story of Jesus continues in and through the lives of the apostles. As we read about the early church and their efforts to testify to Jesus, we witness how the Holy Spirit powerfully uses them to proclaim the rule and reign of God. We also find ourselves challenged by and filled with the Holy Spirit, as we continue to witness what Jesus is doing and teaching today!

Choice dominates our lives, and the unending options for content can leave us feeling paralyzed and stuck. This series explores disciplines of faith that Jesus preached and encouraged His disciples to practice. As we explore, we note how these 'old' disciplines are vital for holy living in the midst of modern temptations. We explore Awe, Community, Forgiveness, Silence, Fasting, and Scripture.
