For The Generation is a podcast that discusses the various tactics of being a first-generation student. Essentially, our goal is to bridge a connection of first-generation students to the world. We hope to promote awareness of the community that these students have and create a comfortable space to share their unique individual stories . “For the Generation” will touch on a diverse group of students to embrace different experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives. With doing so, listeners will have an opportunity to get an up-close and personal view of the lives of first-gens

Hey, Generators join us as we interview Jessica Garcia on the First Gen Study Abroad Experience! Tune in as she gives us the insight on her position as a Study Abroad Program Advisor at LMU, what it's like to Study Abroad as a First Gen Student, and more! Jessica Garcia is a Study Abroad Program Advisor. She joined LMU in June 2021 as the Student Development Specialist of the Ignacio Student Support Services Program, a program for first-generation and low-income students. Before LMU, Jessica worked at UCLA, working at both the Transfer Student Center and the First Year Experience Office. She started her higher education career at the Financial Aid Office at USC. Jordan Pace is currently a middle school art teacher in the Long Beach Unified School District and an entrepreneur. She graduated from LMU in 2020 with her Bachelor's in Studio Art with a double minor in Education and Art History. She received her Master's in Educational Administration and Policy in 2021. While at LMU, Jordan worked as a Peer Facilitator for First To Go and was RHA’s Director of Service and Justice. Her entrepreneurial spirit has existed in many hustles, but she has taken an enormous step forward as an entrepreneur by opening her own coffee shop in Southern California. Emil Sol is currently the Program Coordinator of the Center for Service and Justice at Loyola High School of Los Angeles, his alma mater. He is also a graduate of LMU’s class of 2022 where he earned his Bachelor's in Spanish. He is also set to earn his Master's in Educational Studies from LMU this May. In this episode, we kick off episode 2 of First-Gen Through the Years series featuring our guests Natalie Lopez and Veronica Gomez. Natalie Lopez is a Junior Film Production major and double minor in Chicana/o and Latina/o studies and business administration. She has a great deal of experience in the entertainment industry, some of which include working at the Oscars, Emmys, SAG Awards, and with London Alley Entertainment. She has also worked on music videos for Lizzo and Post Malone and has directed several short films and documentaries. She is currently an executive assistant at Suhloot, a software development company. Our second guest in this episode is Veronica Gomez. She is a Senior majoring in Sociology and double minoring in Peace and Justice Studies And Political Science. Currently, at LMU she is part of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Inc., MEChA De LMU, El Espejo Mentorship, Alternative Breaks Trip Leader to Belize, Sociology Society, Alpha Alpha Alpha: First-Gen Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Delta: Sociology Honor Society, First To Go Program, Ignacio Student Support Services and McNair Scholars Program. In this episode, we kick off our First-Gen Through the Years series featuring our firsts guest Vez Claudio and Xion Nelson. Vex is a freshman majoring in Film production with a minor in philosophy. Currently, at LMU he just became a part of the service org Creare. He is next year's director of Marketing for RHA and part of First to Go and Ignacio Student Support Services. He is also getting more involved with videography for campus events. Our second guest is Xion Nelson who is a sophomore majoring in Mathematics. Currently, at LMU she is part of Belles service org. She is also a part of First To Go and is currently a math grader, community impact coordinator, and peer facilitator. In this episode, we had the amazing opportunity to have a panel with Lizbeth Ramales, a fellow FTG student and Sociology and Chicanx/Latinx double major, and Marissa Montes, Director, and Founder of Loyola Law School’s Immigrant Justice Clinic. She built the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in response to an unmet need for free immigration legal services on the Eastside of Los Angeles. She also teaches courses on Cross-Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Lawyering which brings law students to El Paso, Texas, during spring break to provide pro bono counsel to immigrants facing removal. In this episode, we'll discuss the current immigration policies that are incoming as well as provide advice for students who are undocumented. We hope this episode inspires other students to continue researching immigration policies and share information with college students who may be undocumented. Tune in to our next episode!
In this episode, we had the amazing opportunity to have a panel with Leonardo Dominguez-Ortega, a First To Go Psychology major, and Dr. Claudia Sandoval, a professor in the Political Science department that does research in Race, Immigration, and Black/Latinx relations. We'll discuss immigration policies such as the DACA and Dreamers program and how it affects college students. We hope this episode inspires other students to continue researching immigration policies and share information with college students who may be undocumented.
