THIS WEEK IN THE MONADNOCK REGION... We're back—not because we have to be, but because you want us to be. Join Chris and Zoë as they navigate a world that insists on excellence. Chris promises to delay his sharper critiques; he'll hold off, but only until we've covered what truly matters. Tonight, we delve into: * The vital importance of your voice in the 'Choice Awards,' casting your vote for diVINE on Main. It’s not just a choice—it's a statement. * Charlie Chronopoulos, crafting the hits you love and collaborating with legends like Chris Stapleton—because to aim high is to hit high. * Chris issues a rare, genuine apology to Del Rossi's Trattoria, recognizing a classic when he sees it. * Children OF THE ARTS Day, a celebration of the unsung heroes of our skies—the birds. Join us, because sometimes the smallest voices make the loudest echo. * A nostalgic trip to our 90s-Themed Night Market. Submit your stories, reignite the past. * The announcement of William Mullen's novel 'Anywhere But Here'—because the right words can take you anywhere. * A prelude to our Town Meeting debate on May 1. Be there—because decisions are made by those who show up. * And, as promised, Chris will unleash his famed tirades. After all, every show needs a grand finale. Tune in to Episode 64 of 'GoMo Tonight.' We’re not just making noise; we’re making history." Bill Mullen's debut novel ANYWHERE BUT HERE will be released from Monadnock Underground Press on May 10. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region: Our brief absence made it so that there's now a million things to talk about: * Did a former select board member start a wildfire? * Did a PES student torch the house across from Alltown as an act of kindness? * Were you at the secret VIP Harlow's Last Hurrah Dance Party? * TOWN MEETING: Select Board Showdown and Planning Board Melee (!!!!) * Chris is a candidate now and there's nothing anyone can do (featuring a very long rant about the sacred civic necessity of the Zoning Board of Adjustment and freedom) * The Trolling of the Warrant Articles * The one way that Chris can be defeated ***In partnership with the Peterborough Town Library, GoMonadnock will host the Peterborough Parley III Debate and Salon, featuring Town Meeting candidate debates and a Vision Session moderated by (the Honorable) Jonah Wheeler -- May 3 at 6:30 PM at the PTL*** Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ If you don't like the sound quality, that's because this was NOT produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region: We dedicate a full episode to issues related to the election nobody goes to (in Peterborough, at least) -- the CONVAL SCHOOL BUDGET AND BOARD VOTES (next Tuesday, 3/14) * Controversial (but reasonable) views abound * Why isn't there any good info online? * Why isn't there any good info in the paper (what paper?) * The Great Question all candidates should answer (even if we don't have time to ask them) * Administrative bloat * Does anyone want us to vote in this election? (big shrug emoji) * Does New Hampshire have more freedom than Massachusetts? * Even if we can't reduce the budget, are there ways the school district can contribute to the public good? (yes) * How people should win elections * We are gonna be better than other places (whether we like it or not)
THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region.... We have a lot to talk about. (And sorry about the intro music, we're still figuring this out.) * This episode was recorded during the Great Deep Freeze of 2023 (that whole thing probably our bad karma from trash talking Europe a couple episodes ago) * Old news, but we recap the Library and Rec Committee presentations before the joint Select Board and Budged Committee (SELECTBUD) (great presentations honestly, and some of the questions asked were weird; come on, let's not squeeze people) * This leads to a deep discussion about the nature and ideology around public goods and services (if you want to raise money, Cunningham Pond should sell hot dogs) * Businesses changing hands - Brady's AND Toadstool (sadly we recorded this before the more recent rumors) * Does anybody have any stories about "The Wreck Room", Ancient Peterborough's heavy metal club? (the recent past of this place, for those of us not born here, is so mysterious) * Why is that one festival scheduled, again, for that one day? (Mean-spirited, lacking in good will) * Other businesses are asserting their RIGHTS (the maple syrup KINGPIN'S EMPORIUM and the bona fide fake Instagram farm) * We are soon gonna have a call-in show -- LIVE (stay tuned for details) Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region: (we try out the screen-sharing function on this new platform for the first time) * We forgot it was our 50th episode (but listen to find out how we plan to make up for it in EPISODE 52) * But seriously, we have some ideas for this year and we need public feedback (yes it's still winter, but in a minute it won't be): ** Children of the Arts AFTERPARTY?? (We'll wait until several people retire before the drinking in the streets thing) ** What about a balloon arch at Town Meeting Voting Session? Hot Dogs? (The taxpayers already own a hotdog machine) ** People who go to the Town Meeting Open Session deserve STICKERS ("I LEGISLATED") * School interests and town interests should not be considered separately (this isn't Vatican City over here; voting on this is just over a month away) ** Do you have ideas about this? Uncle Sam NEEDS YOU * So winter did come (Rindge might be the future but it's probably not the present (yet)) Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region: * Is the paper blackballing Jonah Wheeler? BUT FIRST: * We experiment with a brand new recording platform, MOSTLY with success (except for the music, which is NOT Sound Lord Chad's fault) * We muse on the nature of the beginning of the year and how January is a time of starts and stops (and there's ASTROLOGY) * Should the budget for the new fire station include permanent built-in Christmas lights? (Yes, but when does Peterborough Christmas end?) * Why is Europe so far to the North? (and YET there's no goddamn snow in England) * This is actually a discussion about ancient pagan holidays, but what if Europe got cold and New England got warm? (Think of the opportunities for us) * Chris wonders if Europe isn't that great (even if that doesn't make them deserve to be cold) * Is the NBA kickstarting European colonization of Africa? (Maybe, and France is in charge) * Are plow drivers the real heroes? (that's what the money is for!) * WHY DO WE TELL PEOPLE TO BRAKE FOR MOOSE (half the people I know brake for squirrels) Plus we help the missed connections of the region FIND LOVE. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region, we return to the Space Lounge after a leeeeegnthy holiday hiatus for the FIRST EPISODE OF 2023... ...and we return with a brand new reason to find an ugly rubber disease bracelet to wear! * Is Friday the 13th about sacred femininity vs the patriarchy? (No, but we'd love to meet the guy who made this up like two years ago and hope he's still laughing about it) * This wasn't JUST a Christmas/New Years/Kawanzaa break - Chris had surgery on 1/3, relinquishing his once-beloved right kidney in order to also get a hunk of accidental "cance" out of him (open to listener feedback regarding what color ugly bracelet we should use for Transitional Cell Carcinoma) * Peeing and other bodily functions should remain relatively normal, and when they don't, find a doctor who will listen to you! (We're getting old, fellow Millennials; we gotta worry about these things now) * If you had the chance, would you want to be a spectator for kidney surgery? (And what happened to those single-camera raw, unedited surgery shows TLC used to do back in the day? Have we as a society decided we no longer wish to see other people get operated on? Or are surgery shows still among us - just in a more evolved form?) * Chris has complained for years about the broad overreaction to the opioid crisis, and now he is a VICTIM (it's possible, at least worth considering, that major organ removal cance surgery might sufficiently justify like 3-5 days of strong dope) * Biology may be brutal and treacherous, but the point here is to see this act of healing done practically upon the New Year as the gateway to a 2023 of flourishing (...but, inspirational attitudes aside, January is boring even in a good year like that) * It's so warm this winter that we can't even do crazy Wim Hof stuff even if we want to, and Chris can't even get any credit for not complaining about winter (but seriously bro you gotta try the cold water at the end of your shower) * It might be quiet now, but lurking beneath the depths like the leviathan, Budget Season has quietly begun (before you know it we will be careening toward TOWN MEETING) * There are drawbacks to open meeting laws (we'll eventually deal with it when we're in our 50s maybe) Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region... What says Christmas more than the honorable and newly-elected representative from Hillsborough 33 and the hardest working musician in New Hampshire? We're joined for our SPECIAL HOLIDAY DOUBLE-EPISODE by the spectacular and luminous Jonah Wheeler and the dazzling and soulful Charlie Chronopoulos! We manage to stick to Christmas for at least the first hour and then...we wonder who killed JFK and things spiral around the globe from there. This is an EPIC episode ITSELF destined to be part of Monadnock Region lore. (Don't worry we bring it back to a heartwarming seasons greetings message before the end. And if that isn't a true blue miracle...) * We share our favorite Christmas songs and the controversial, uncensored reasons why (war, German harshness, Putin masks, fear, minor keys, etc.) * Somewhat inevitably, we segue naturally to an equally shocking discussion of our favorite Christmas movies (The Case for Mickey's Christmas Carol! Shoutout to Xmas Eve on Sesame St) * Was the collective child-consciousness as expressed by the films of the 80s helpful or did they damage a generation beyond repair (and what are the implications of this in the NH state house)? * What is the best way to introduce children to the JFK assassination during the holidays? (OLIVER STONE, Santa's nephew) * Many people don't know this, but children in the 60s used to sit on Nixon's lap and ask for presents (and some people to this day use Britney Spears for communion) * Jonah, alone among the group, presents the Christmas spirit of unrelenting optimism (which we like but argue with) * Charlie debuts The Parable of the Lost Musical (a timeless story that echoes well beyond this present day) Maybe we all have a role to play and there's a plan for us after all. God bless us, every one. Peace on earth, good will to men. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region, we make our SECOND attempt at a Christmas episode - no politics, no planning boards, no community centers, JUST CHRISTMAS (and Channukah) - ...and we explore Peterborough's Dark Christmas History * We discuss Project Shakespeare's production of A Christmas Carol (which is, unfortunately, over already) * Tales from Peterborough Cookie Judging (and ambitions for the future of Hometown Holidays) * Don't bring glass lanterns to the lantern walk (but you can pray to the Christmas Lobster of Peterborough for forgiveness if you fill the bank parking lot with shards) * Peterborough's dark Christmas past (and the curse that gave birth to Conval; not in a manger) * Just in time for Christmas, they are slowly hunting down and arresting the Rindge rioters Jan 6 style * We end on a really happy note (there is hope for us after all) Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region: We attempt, with all we have, to produce our first of several Christmas/Holiday-themed episodes, but we'll blame our partial failure on the fact that this episode was recorded BEFORE the Hometown Holiday Weekend! (But if you listen all the way through, you'll hear Chris sing the NH state song to the tune of a classic Christmas carol) Did you know we are selling controversial merchandise? Find it here - you'll never get libel and outrage and inside jokes like this anywhere else! https://www.redbubble.com/people/GoMo-Gear/shop * We cover some pre-HH Weekend thoughts and wishes (maybe spreeeeeaad these great events out a little bit; maybe different orgs and town departments can call each other before scheduling things) * We're not just "talking excrement" here - we're not just lending our hands but VOWING to host a GoMonadnock Holiday Ball starting next year (we're here to help) * Special Christmas reminder that at the summer Night Market we produced Peterborough's very own H***ark Christmas Special, Snow Falls, Love Settles (watch it in full here, performed by Corinne Chronopoulos, Eddie Gomez, "The Belt Hipp", and David of Texas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMtMZeLsqDM) * At this point in the episode, Christmas gets lost a little bit because we were COMPELLED to discuss the newspaper's controversial Ivy Vann "article" (and if it's not controversial, we tell you why it should be) * What happened here? Why wasn't anybody with any interest in any of the subjects covered in this "story" called and given an opportunity to comment or offer an opposing perspective? (there's no way to twist the basic fundamental tenets of journalism to explain this away) * Why wouldn't this many column-inches be dedicated to, say, someone who maybe WON an election this year (like come on, where's the multi-thousand-word profile of a certain brilliant fellow whose election victory might be called historical significance?) * Bottom line is that the public deserves and should demand much better than this for the public discourse, and weird offensives like this hinder, rather than help, our ability to have a productive conversation on housing * While we were recording, we received some live breaking news about the DNC trying to destroy New Hampshire's sacred FIRST IN THE NATION STATUS (this aggression will not stand!) * We have a special Christmas New Hampshire Patriotism moment, exploring our official state song and why Vermont sucks Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region, a VERY SPECIAL EPISODE (VSE) celebrating Thanksgiving with the only Monadnock Underground writer to ever receive a content complaint, Duke of Atlantic City JARED RADKE. This turned into a remarkably personal, intimate episode filled with wild stories you do NOT want to miss. Also, we are pleased to UPDATE everyone that Rachel's stolen Subaru has been FOUND! (But it's probably a total loss) (Jared's Fall 2022 Season piece ran today on M/U - find it here: https://www.monadnockunderground.com/the-devastating-day/) What follows is ROLLICKING RIDE discussing the issues of the day and the matters that haunt us and make us grateful in this wonderful life we all have. * Does anybody remember the Wikipedia Oracle (Jared teaches us all a game we can STILL play) * We talk about the vagaries of the writing process (special guest appearance from another M/U award-winning FAVORITE, Rachel Mussenden) * What is appropriate for children to read? Especially impressionable teens - should we keep them away from the YA?? (The answer is yes, how about Catch-22, Vonnegut, Confederacy of Dunces??) * We talk about the wonders (?) of Atlantic City (and Chris tells some legally questionable stories which fortunately are past the statute of limitations) * The dangers of road rage (some people get calmer as they get older, some go another way) * Traditional Thanksgiving topics like strip clubs and sports gambling (and the merits of various cigarette brands) * Brief discussion of the NH Executive Council (blowing the minds of New Jersey residents everywhere) * Connections between that weird Croydon gaming preserve and the Bohemian Grove (and the chicken of Boston Market) * New Jersey politics might be more interesting (dare we say) * Why is Chris wearing the captain hat? THIS WEEK in the MONADNOCK REGION: This episode primarily covers the TWO most pressing topics facing us today: local ELECTION RESULTS (Decision '22 has been made) and what we should REALLY do with the Peterborough Community Center (aka "the bunker") and why. But specifically: * We discuss the merits of street lights, which many people in New Hampshire have never seen * Back when Home Alone 2 was made, in the pinnacle of civilization, they made plastic water bottles that didn't crinkle (Smartwater bottles can bring even YOU straight back to the halcyon days of the '90s) * Should we serve ONLY Peterborough Town Water at Select Board meetings? (And all meetings, everywhere) * 2022 midterm turnout was at potentially record-breaking levels in Our Town (why, though?) * Jonah Wheeler wins in potential historic election result (even if it IS like Baltimore) * But are there any real conclusions we can TRULY draw from this election? * The only two republicans to win in Peterborough won because of the Democrat-Libertarians (LOL) * The history of the armory-turned-Peterborough-community-center * No public tax funds can be spent on the community center, based on the original agreement * A study was already done showing the place to be an utter disaster (asbestos and everything else) * The history and the facts basically make the case without further argument being made (but we will make further argument anyway) * How about one single person who cares deeply about this just pays for it - if we need it? (And if we don't have the need or the noblesse oblige patron...let's solution for alternatives!) * You should not care *primarily* what ConVal wants - you should care what is in the public interest Check out Monadnock Underground's Fall 2022 season: https://www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/fall2022season/ Contact us: Hate mail and information about how to send us your awesome calendar photos: diloreto@monadnockunderground.com Submissions: submit@monadnockunderground.com Advertising/Sponsorship: zoe@monadnockunderground.com www.gomonadnock.com/ www.monadnockunderground.com/ This episode was produced by Sound Lord Chad Patterson of Studio 117. THIS WEEK in the Monadnock Region, we are joined by SPECIAL GUEST HOST John Palmucci, Jr., representative of the entire state of New Jersey, canceled podcaster, the brains behind Socialist Soprano Memes, and longtime friend of Monadnock Underground! * John has been KEPT OFF THE AIRWAVES for six months and only GoMo Tonight is breaking the blacklist (he's been listening to our show from afar in a spirit of LONGING) * We get John's take on the kids not being able to go to the bathroom at ConVal * Can you un-register to vote? (Chris realizes he might accidentally be a democrat right now) * The sacred temple curtain of Wilton is not authorized (likely has to do with the curse that lives in that town) * Uncle Joe Biden went to New Jersey to legalize weed (kinda; but sometimes it's okay when politicians do good things to win votes) * Daddy Elon Musk is indeed buying Twitter after all (maybe he will help John make money!) * An inside look into the dark world of online leftism (retirement is sweet and not fascist) * Chris gets accused of being a free stater (but DO we need public education? And how do you money launder with Bitcoin?)
