God Be Crazy

Think God’s crazy? So do we. Let us tell you why. Hosted by Bonnie Thomas & Kristy Penney.

Teach me Lord to wait

"Teach Me Lord to Wait"Music & Lyrics: Stuart HamblinArranged by: Gerald MooreTeach me Lord, to wait down on my knees,Till in Your own good time You answer my pleas;Teach me not to rely on what others do,But to wait in prayer for an answer from You.Teach me Lord, to wait while hearts are aflame,Let me humble my pride and call on Your name.Keep my faith renewed, my eyes on Thee,Let me be on this earth what you want me to be.Refrain:"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their      strength,They shall mount up with wings like eagles,They shall run and not be weary,They shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)Teach me Lord, to wait. For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

By faith

Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things unseen. - Hebrews 11:1Hebrews 11 has been referred to as the "Faith Hall of Fame" as it gives many accounts of the men and women who boldly believed God and acted in faith when reason and human logic may not have supported it.  Kristy and Bonnie discuss how these people were set apart and also set a great example of how we should walk by faith and not rely too much on our own understanding. Because if do not have faith, it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6).For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

The Feely Good Gospel

Sometimes the full truth stings and the half-truth feels good. This episode addresses the way that lies can sneak into our minds from seemingly trustworthy sources to tell us something our hearts desire to believe, even if it doesn't line up with God's Word. The lyrics from the song "Crazy About You" by Tauren Wells are discussed in light of God's truth from both the Old and New Testaments. Specifically discussed is the idea that God has never been mad at you, a declaration made in the song, but contradicted by the Bible; His wrath arises for both his own people and those that oppose him. The truth of this song is that God loves us greatly. However, the true love of God also corrects and convicts- and can come with expressions of emotions that are appropriate in such circumstances. That true love means guiding us to turn from our sin and towards our God who saves.  Scripture to Explore:Genesis 6:5-7 Exodus 4:14Exodus 15:7Exodus 32John 2:13-17Romans 1:18-32Romans 2Romans 7:7-25Romans 8For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Savage grief

Sometimes our world stands still when we receive news we never expected, other times we have months or years to prepare for the loss of those we love. No matter how or when loss finds its way into your life you can be sure you are never really prepared for what comes after. Grief is a process that can make people feel uncomfortable, angry, unexplainable sadness, and a host of other emotions. Although none of us want to become acquainted with it; it is inescapable. Grief will find you. The truth we should cling to as we go through the process is that God is still sovereign. God is still good. He is still with us in the midst of our worst day. He loves us. "Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you,Yes, I will help you,I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."Isaiah 41:10 For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Suffering Support-a-tash

This episode is a continuation of the previous one, "Suffering Succotash". “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering.” - Gordon AllportIt’s okay not to be okay. But sometimes that’s not the message we hear from those around us. It may not even be the message we tell ourselves. However, it is still the truth. It should be expected that we will fall apart. We all need to give ourselves and others the permission to feel and reprocess our pain. How can we best support those we love during hard times? We share a few practical ways along with some not-so-helpful ways too. Regardless of our journey through suffering, as followers of Christ we should be aiming to find joy and an eternal perspective from our pain. Scriptures to explore:Psalm 16:6-8 Romans 8:28James 1:2-4 Psalm 46 For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com   For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Suffering Succotash

Suffering is inevitable to some degree as long as we are living this life. If you live long enough you will be touched by tragedy and trauma. The degree to which those things affect you depend heavily on your environment, supporting community, your own innate gifts, and if you have an intimate relationship with our heavenly Father. Although we have no control over things that happen to us as we learn and grow and lean into Christ we recognize that most of us have choices now. The suffering in this life can sanctify you to Christ or separate you from Him based on choices you make. God is faithful to meet us right where we are. We all have different experiences and we all have a choice in how we handle our suffering. To take the ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences Scale) and learn more what your score means go to:https://americanspcc.org/take-the-aces-quiz/To take the resiliency assessment related to your childhood supports and positive experiences go to:https://cls.unc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/3019/2016/08/From-ACESTOOHIGH-ACES-and-Resilience-questions.pdfTo take the resiliency test created by Dr. Al Siebert based on your personality and innate temperament go to:https://resiliencyquiz.com/index.shtmlFor Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com   For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Ho Ho Whoa

As we enter the holiday season we reflect on the true meaning of it all. Thanksgiving invites us to introspection and reminds us all that we have much to be grateful for. While Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus, our Savior and mediator to the Father. Far too often we find ourselves more concerned with the gifts we get than how we can be a blessing to others. Do we embody the values we profess? If we are not careful and intentional, we find ourselves fixated and concerned about less important things. No matter how your family chooses to celebrate this season we invite you to check your heart and make adjustments wherever the Holy Spirit leads.

War of the wills

Discerning the will of God requires a tried and tested relationship with Him. One way we grow with God is to wrestle with Him- to choose to pursue Him and struggle with Him, opening ourselves up to a conflict that leaves us refined. As we mature on our faith journey and grow in wisdom and understanding, we soon learn that God uses our struggles, temptations, and trials to draw us closer to Him. When we are at our weakest that is when His power is made perfect. When we cry out to Him and surrender our desires, exchanging them for His will, we can truly walk in the freedom that only He can offer.

Is your salty showing?

This candid conversation about the joy and cost of following Christ will prompt you to reflect upon your life. If you could swap lives with a non-believing friend, neighbor, or co-worker, would you be able to comfortably walk in their shoes? Could you blend in or would it be uncomfortable for you or vice versa? We are called to be the salt and light of the earth, set apart. If we blend in, are we actually obeying this call? Matthew 5:13-16 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

Recap & wrap

As season one wraps we look back on the journey of God Be Crazy and share the impact it has had on us. We are extremely humbled and grateful to have been on this journey with you all. Thank you for your support and for allowing us the space to grow right along with you. We definitely don’t claim to be experts on the Bible. In fact, we are simply fallible human beings who pray earnestly to do the will of God. We want to honor him with our lives and we strive to live that out. Join us for Season 2 on Wednesday Oct. 18th. Don’t forget to subscribe and/or mark your calendars!

Healing me softly

Change is inevitable. Living a human life means that struggles are a likely part of your journey. We have a choice in what we do with the circumstances in our lives as well as how we handle the hard things. Healing is possible especially when you allow God’s love and wisdom to take root in your soul. This episode takes us for a stroll down memory lane as we revisit some of the traumas we discussed in episode 5 entitled “Strumming my pain with His fingers.” We are reminded that seemingly impossible things can give way to valuable lessons and insights we may never have discovered otherwise. Being human is hard; navigating this life without God would be even harder.

Does the Bible really say that?

We should all be asking ourselves regularly, “Does the Bible really say that?” Just because we hear it often does not make it true. We want to bring to your attention a few of the many common phrases or beliefs we say or hear that many believe are rooted in scripture. Our intention is to shine a light on little half truths that present themselves as gospel. We are ultimately responsible for what we believe, why we believe that, and the relationship we have cultivated with our Holy Papa. Anytime you are presented information as doctrine we implore you to study it out for yourself. Seek out your answers from Him and He will guide you.Scripture referenced:Malachi 3:6-151 Corinthians 10:13Genesis 6 & 7For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Set the captives free, part 2

“When God tells you to do something, you do it.” This is a quote from Tim Ballard, played by Jim Caviezel, in the movie “Sound of Freedom”. Tim was being commissioned by God to rescue children from sex traffickers and he made a choice to act. In part two of this episode series, Kristy and Bonnie share the vision given to them for Solomon Center, a nonprofit organization they founded due to God’s prompting and guidance. Solomon Center is now accepting donations to assist with building a state-of-the-art treatment center that will offer acute, outpatient, and intensive outpatient services. Solomon Center will combine brain-based, evidence-based trauma protocols and interventions with the power of the Holy Spirit. It will offer a variety of healing experiences including brainspotting, EMDR, somatic and movement therapies, art therapy, music therapy, adventure therapy/ropes course, canine therapy, play therapy, occupational therapy, walk and talk therapy in nature, as well as career and vocation assistance. Additionally, there will be an amphitheater at Solomon Center with covered seating as well as an indoor concert and lecture hall. These venues will be used for family-friendly concerts, fundraising events, lectures, continuing education, and community events.Click the link to donate to Solomon Center: https://tracer.cocard.app/2CGRWPA77P94To join the fight against sex trafficking and help others heal from the experience please consider donating to these non-profit organizations:www.solomoncenter.us www.pathsaves.orgwww.ourrescue.orgwww.A21.orgwww.timtebowfoundation.orgFor Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

Luke, where is your Father?

Our earthly fathers can influence and impact how or if we relate to our Heavenly Father. However, our parents are not God. People are flawed; God and his love are perfect. In Luke 11:9-13 Jesus teaches us that if we are asking and seeking a relationship with God, we will definitely find it. He reminds us that even flawed earthly parents know how to give their kids what they need so “how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” He speaks our language and meets us where we are. Seek him and find the safest relationship there is to be found!Romans 8:15-16 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Let’s talk about sex baby

The topic of sex and relationships is often a tricky subject to navigate. Whether you are a teen just entering into the dating world, a more mature adult navigating single life, a married adult, or a newly divorced/widowed adult who finds themselves walking through a new season of life this episode has something for everyone. Sex is a topic that deserves direct communication. We recognize that many people are uncomfortable discussing sex and that the topic is often met with immature antics and shame-based language. It is our desire to help facilitate an open dialog about sex as well as explore what the Bible has to say on the subject. It is our earnest prayer that as you listen to this episode the Holy Spirit will begin to speak to your heart and guide you to open communication and honest discussions regarding sex and all that it entails. 1 Cor. 6:18-20Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. Additional scripture referenced:I Thessalonians 4:1-12 1 Corinthians 7:1-72 Cor. 6:14 Luke 14:25-27For further study:Ephesians 5:22-33Romans 12:1 For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

It's me. Hi. I'm the problem. It's me.

Throughout scripture we see numerous examples of God's power at work. Many times, such as in the story of Joshua and Achan, God acts in a manner that removes any doubt of His sovereignty. It would serve us well to take these into account and look inwardly to see if we trust fully in God’s faithfulness or if at the first sign of things looking different than expected, we crumble. The events that follow the fall of Jericho also teach us that we must earnestly pray and examine ourselves to find what may exist within us that needs to be exposed and removed. When we do not reflect and confess our sin, we are in danger of continuing in a pattern that will likely harden our hearts and cause us to be numb to our own destruction. It’s important when we confess that we are specific to what we have done and reflect with deep regret. One thing Achan did correctly was that he confessed his sin in detail. Unfortunately, he chose not to do so until his hand was forced, resulting in the consequences foretold. For further study read Joshua 6 and 7.

Hands off

In our culture of “what makes me happy” and “how I can speak my truth”, we may find ourselves struggling to allow God to truly reign over our lives. We want to have some sense of control. We question God as to why we are in a situation or still struggling with something we already prayed about (as if praying one time should always change the outcome when we want it too). Oftentimes the truth is that we have prayed about it, but we haven't taken our hands off of it. We ask God to move but we have a death grip on the matter at hand and refuse to actually leave it with God. He offers us the free will to exchange the things that haunt us for His yoke, one much lighter. How do you do that you ask? Join us as we discuss how to truly surrender to the only one who can give you real peace.Matthew 11:28-30“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com

The other F word

Forgiveness is a conscious, deliberate decision to release feelings of resentment, or vengeance towards a person or group of people who have harmed you regardless of whether they deserve it or not. Reconciliation is more than simply restoring friendly relations after a relational rupture has occurred. It involves rebuilding trust, moving towards connection, and fostering intimate bonds with those who hurt us. Repentance is the foundation and must be present when considering reconciliation in our relationships.Reconciliation is not required by God. However, forgiveness is a direct instruction from the Lord. It is not optional for followers of Christ. Instead of struggling to forgive others because we think it implies reconciliation, we can separate them as two different things. We can forgive people who have hurt us while leaving the possibility of reconciliation up to their actions and God’s power to heal our hearts.  Ephesians 4:31-32Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.For Q&A and discussion about this and other episodes, follow us on Instagram:Http://www.instagram.com/godbecrazy Http://www.instagram.com/counselor_on_callHttp://www.instagram.com/kikkipenneyOr email us at godbecrazypodcast@gmail.com
