# 532 - Is Your Speech Warning You About Alzheimer’s

The research study discussed in this episode https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13825585.2024.2315774What if the way you speak today could predict your chances of getting Alzheimers, the most common form of dementia. A new study has found that alterations in speech speed could be an early warning sign for this devastating neurological disease. Researchers asked a sample group to describe a scene in detail , then AI analysed their speech patterns such as speech rate , the length of pauses, and vocabulary diversity. It seems theres a clear link between a persons coginitive function and how fasta person speaks. Even before memory deterioration occurs subtle speech changes can foreshadow cognitive decline. The kind of speech analysis in this stidy could one day become a simple non-invasive way to predict someones chances of acquiring a neurological condition like dementia.
