In this episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary Greensmith welcomes back Ann Lovatt, one of the team’s experienced homoeopaths. Ann dives into the fascinating world of Argentum Nitricum—a remedy she knows well, both professionally and personally. As a professional violinist, she’s relied on this remedy many times to help with performance anxiety. Silver and Gold – A Useful Comparison Ann begins by comparing Argentum Nitricum (made from silver nitrate) with Aurum Metallicum (made from gold). This contrast helps highlight the remedy’s qualities: Silver is reflective, linked with the moon, intuition, and changeability. Gold is warm, solar, regal, and tied to vitality, ego, and responsibility. While Aurum carries the weight of leadership and fear of failure on a grand scale, Argentum Nitricum captures the anticipation and anxiety of performance, where self-doubt and worry can feel overwhelming. The Nature of Silver Nitrate Unlike pure silver, silver nitrate has an explosive, reactive quality. This makes Argentum Nitricum more effervescent, expansive, and emotionally intense. Historically, silver was valued for its healing properties—used to line vessels and even in early surgical sutures for its antimicrobial effects. In homoeopathy, these qualities translate into support for the nervous system, mucous membranes, and emotional resilience. Themes of Creativity, Expression, and Anxiety According to Jan Scholten’s work linking remedies to the periodic table, Argentum Nitricum belongs in Series 4—associated with creativity, communication, and performance. At its core, this remedy is about: Anticipation and performance anxiety – fear of being judged or failing. Stage fright and exam nerves – doubting whether preparation will be enough. Irrational fears – such as fear of heights, flying, or being trapped. Ann sums it up beautifully with the phrase: “Lost in anticipation.” Physical Symptoms and Body Connections Argentum Nitricum doesn’t only affect the mind. It has strong links to the nervous system and the gut, often showing up as: Diarrhoea or stomach upset before stressful events Trembling or weakness Vice-like headaches and feelings of body parts being too large or bound Eye and throat issues, such as redness, spasms, or compulsive throat-clearing Sleep troubles from an overactive mind Interestingly, asthma linked to Argentum Nitricum often improves with movement—though situations like flying, where motion and fresh air are restricted, can worsen symptoms. Differentiating from Other Remedies Ann compares Argentum Nitricum with other remedies often used for anxiety: Aconite – panic-level fear, sudden and acute Gelsemium – inward trembling, weakness, chills Ignatia – emotional ups and downs, sensitivity, tearfulness Argentum Nitricum stands out because of its intensity, irrational fears, and digestive involvement, all tied to anticipation. Everyday Uses This remedy is not only for musicians or public speakers—it can be useful in many everyday situations: Fear of flying or travelling Nervousness before an interview, exam, or driving test Anxiety before making a phone call or attending a meeting Ann explains that modalities (what makes symptoms better or worse) are key: pacing and fresh air may ease symptoms, while heat, sweets, and being trapped can make them worse. Argentum Nitricum is one of the great homoeopathic remedies for anxiety—particularly when anticipation takes over. Whether it’s a child nervous about school, an adult facing an interview, or a musician preparing for performance, this remedy helps calm the nerves, support the gut, and restore confidence. Ann leaves us with the takeaway: Argentum Nitricum is for those lost in anticipation—when worry about what might happen stops you living in the moment. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary Greensmith speaks with Nour Azem about anxiety and how homoeopathy offers a gentle and natural way to find balance. Nour explains her simple two-step approach to managing anxiety—helping with the immediate symptoms and then addressing the deeper roots. The conversation is warm, practical, and filled with insights that make this big subject feel approachable. Step One: Supporting the Present Moment Nour describes the first stage of healing as helping people deal with anxiety in the moment. Often, anxiety shows up as racing thoughts, sweaty palms, or even unsettling dreams before a big event. With the right remedy, the body and mind are gently reminded to rebalance. It’s almost as if the remedy allows people to pause, breathe, and refocus on the present instead of being trapped in worries. Nour encourages simple practices alongside remedies—such as mindful breathing and journaling—to notice what triggered the anxiety and to process it before it grows. This first step is about awareness: recognising when anxiety shows up and knowing that support is available. Step Two: Going Deeper into Chronic Anxiety The second step, Nour explains, is about addressing the root causes of chronic anxiety. Here, homoeopathy takes a holistic approach, looking not just at current symptoms but at a person’s whole life story. This deeper work might involve exploring childhood patterns, past traumas, inherited tendencies, or long-term disappointments. Nour describes how she builds a full picture—connecting emotional, mental, and physical health—before prescribing a remedy that matches the person’s overall state. Examples include: Someone who always puts others first and suppresses emotions might need Pulsatilla. A perfectionist who fears losing control might benefit from Arsenicum. The goal is to break cycles, build resilience, and give people the strength to manage life’s challenges more calmly in the future. Anxiety in Families and Children Mary and Nour also discuss how anxiety can be “contagious.” Children often mirror the emotions of parents or pick up the general atmosphere of the household. Modern life—with its fast pace, technology, and reduced playtime—adds further strain. During lockdowns, many children (and adults) experienced loneliness, which Nour highlights as one of the biggest drivers of anxiety. This shows why it’s so important to address not only symptoms but also the environment and lifestyle contributing to stress. Gentle, Natural Support Nour reassures listeners that they are not alone. Anxiety may feel overwhelming, but homoeopathy provides a safe, natural, and individualised path forward. She also shares news about her free ebook on anxiety and mentions upcoming webinars and the Homeopathy 247 conference, where people can learn more and ask questions in a supportive space. Anxiety often stops people from living life fully. With this two-step approach—treating immediate symptoms and uncovering deeper patterns—homoeopathy offers a way to release old habits, restore resilience, and step into a calmer future. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary Greensmith welcomes back Jagoda Salewska, who shares her passion for the remedy Natrum Muriaticum (often called Nat Mur). For Jagoda, this remedy feels deeply personal—something she has resonated with since childhood—and she explains why it is such an essential remedy both emotionally and physically. What is Natrum Muriaticum? Natrum Muriaticum is made from common salt. Since salt is present in every cell of our body and essential for life, this remedy has a wide-reaching influence. It’s used in both cell salt (tissue salt) form, which acts more on the physical body, and in homoeopathic remedy form, which works on emotional as well as physical levels. Jagoda describes it as a remedy that “balances the water of life”—helping with issues of dryness and excess fluid, as well as with emotional stuckness. The Emotional Picture – Sadness, Grief, and Sensitivity At its core, Natrum Muriaticum is linked with deep, unresolved grief or sadness. People who need it often: Hold their emotions inside rather than express them Prefer to cry alone, or sometimes feel unable to cry at all Build a protective “wall” around themselves, appearing strong on the outside but deeply tender within Show perfectionist tendencies, carefully controlling how they present to the world Jagoda points out that while grief is the most common theme, the remedy helps whenever emotions become “stuck”—unable to flow naturally. By gently releasing those emotions, Natrum Muriaticum allows healing to move forward. Nat Mur in Children Children needing Natrum Muriaticum may not show obvious grief, but they often reveal themselves in other ways. Traits can include: Perfectionism in appearance or behaviour Being thin or underdeveloped compared to peers Learning or speech delays Sensitivity to light, sound, or strong emotions Constipation or dryness in the body Physically, they may be prone to colds with lots of sneezing and clear discharges, cracked lips, or mouth ulcers. These symptoms all reflect the remedy’s connection with water balance and dryness. Physical Complaints and Water Balance Because salt governs fluid balance, Natrum Muriaticum is often indicated where there is too much or too little fluid in the body. Common examples include: Headaches or migraines, especially from the sun or after emotional upset Colds and fevers, with streaming eyes and nose Skin issues such as cold sores, cracked lips, eczema, or acne that appear after grief Digestive troubles, sometimes linked with unprocessed emotions Insomnia, especially waking in the early hours between 3–5am In tissue salt form (6X potency), Nat Mur can also be used as a natural electrolyte to support hydration, especially after diarrhoea, vomiting, or heat exposure. Opening Layers of Healing Jagoda explains that Natrum Muriaticum is often a layer remedy. It helps open the door for other remedies by releasing blocked grief and sadness. Sometimes this uncovering reveals deeper emotions such as anger or resentment, which then call for a different prescription. In homoeopathy, the healing journey often involves peeling back layers. Nat Mur is one of the remedies that can begin this process, gently breaking down walls so that emotions and physical symptoms can flow and heal. Remedy Relationships Ignatia is often used for acute grief, while Nat Mur is suited for the longer, deeper stages of sorrow. Apis acts as an acute counterpart, especially when swelling or allergic reactions appear suddenly, while Nat Mur deals with the slower, underlying imbalance. The remedy also connects strongly with the cycles of nature, including the moon and the sea, reflecting its deep link to water and emotions. Natrum Muriaticum is much more than “just salt.” It is a profound remedy that touches both the physical and emotional levels of health. From headaches and colds to grief and perfectionism, it helps restore balance when life feels stuck. As Jagoda beautifully puts it, Nat Mur helps us release the weight of sadness and move toward wholeness. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, host Mary Greensmith welcomes homoeopath Anindita Sinha to explore one of the most iconic remedies in homoeopathy: Belladonna. Often included in every homeopathic first-aid kit, Belladonna is known for its dramatic and sudden symptoms, especially in children. Anindita dives into its historical background, clinical use, and why it remains a go-to remedy for acute conditions like fever, inflammation, and throbbing pain. The History and Nature of Belladonna The word Belladonna means "beautiful lady" and originates from a time when women in Italy used drops from the plant to dilate their pupils, a sign of allure and beauty. However, the plant—also known as deadly nightshade—is toxic in material doses. In its homeopathic form, Belladonna is diluted and succussed (shaken) to release its healing energy. It can then be safely used to treat the very symptoms it might cause in its raw state: heat, redness, throbbing, and sudden inflammation. Key Characteristics of Belladonna Anindita describes Belladonna as the “Prince of Congestion.” It's associated with: Sudden onset of symptoms High fevers with flushed cheeks and dilated pupils Redness, heat, and throbbing pain Sensitivity to light and touch Delirium and heightened mental activity This remedy is especially useful in treating children who suddenly become unwell, often after exposure to heat or sun. It also covers a range of acute symptoms in the head, digestive tract, or reproductive organs. How Belladonna Works in Homoeopathy Mary and Anindita explain the core principle of homoeopathy—“like cures like.” A substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can help heal those symptoms in a sick person when highly diluted. This is why Belladonna, although poisonous in its natural state, becomes a gentle and effective healing remedy in homeopathic potency. Remedy Relationship: Belladonna and Calcarea Carbonica Anindita shares an interesting connection between Belladonna and Calcarea Carbonica (Calcarb). Although opposite in many ways—Calcarb being slow and sluggish while Belladonna is intense and fiery—Belladonna is often the acute remedy for a Calcarb constitution when symptoms become intense and inflamed. She explains this through soil composition and how Belladonna, a plant, grows in chalky soil (associated with calcium). Real-Life Experiences Anindita shares personal and clinical examples of using Belladonna: During her postpartum period, it helped manage sudden heavy bleeding. For a neighbour suffering from a painful boil, Belladonna eased the intense throbbing. In children with sudden high fevers or even in autistic children experiencing aggressive flare-ups, Belladonna helps calm the storm. Fever and Belladonna Belladonna shines in acute fevers—especially in children with flushed cheeks, delirium, and restlessness. Anindita reminds listeners that while homoeopathy can be complementary, severe symptoms like meningitis should always be seen by a doctor. Belladonna can be taken en route to hospital as supportive care. Belladonna is a must-have remedy for any household. Its wide-ranging application in acute illnesses, particularly those with sudden, intense symptoms, makes it a staple in homoeopathy kits. Anindita’s stories and insights make it clear why this remedy remains one of the most valued in practice. In this insightful episode, Mary welcomes back homoeopath Ekta Kaur Ross to discuss one of the most beloved and essential remedies in homoeopathy: Arnica. Ekta describes Arnica as her “kingpin remedy”—a go-to for beginners and experienced users alike. Whether you're dealing with a physical injury, emotional trauma, or preparing for surgery, Arnica has something to offer. What Is Arnica? Arnica is a yellow-flowered plant from the sunflower family, often found in high-altitude mountainous regions. It’s also known as mountain daisy or leopard’s bane. Interestingly, these are the very places where accidents are more likely to occur—mirroring Arnica’s role in healing bruises, trauma, and falls. Ekta explains how Arnica is transformed from a herbal remedy into a safe and gentle homeopathic remedy through dilution and potentisation. When to Use Arnica Ekta stresses that Arnica should be a staple in every household: in your handbag, bathroom, car, or bedside drawer. The classic advice? “If in doubt, give Arnica.” It's especially useful for: Bruising, knocks, and falls Pre- and post-surgery support Dental work and recovery Labour and childbirth Sports injuries Emotional trauma and shock Arnica for Old Injuries and Emotional Healing While Arnica is widely known for acute injuries, Ekta also highlights its use in chronic or lingering symptoms—especially when someone says, “I’ve never been well since...” Arnica helps improve circulation and shift stagnant emotional or physical trauma. Whether it’s an old car accident or a past emotional shock, Arnica can bring deep healing and movement where there was stagnation. The Arnica Constitution Ekta touches on Arnica as a constitutional remedy—where it matches the person’s overall state. These individuals often downplay their pain (“I’m fine, I’m okay”) and prefer to care for others. Circulation issues, emotional distancing, and the tendency to hide vulnerability are common themes. Self-Prescribing Arnica For newcomers to homoeopathy, Ekta recommends starting with Arnica in 6C or 30C potency. It's easy to use, has no side effects, and is safe for everyone—including newborns and pets. Take one pill, and if no relief is felt after 10 minutes, repeat up to three times. Often, relief comes quickly. Ekta calls Arnica the “accelerator” of recovery. It can reduce the need for conventional painkillers and helps the body self-heal more efficiently. Creams, Pills, and Practical Tips Arnica also comes in topical creams, which can be helpful for bruises—so long as the skin is not broken. However, the internal pill form is often more effective, working from the inside out. Store your remedies away from heat, light, and strong smells to preserve them—they can last for decades when stored properly. In this thoughtful episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, Mary Greensmith welcomes homeopath Barbara Hanachova to explore the remedy Baryta Carbonica. Known for its gentleness and emotional support, Baryta Carbonica is a favourite of Barbara’s—particularly for children with developmental delays, autism, anxiety, and extreme shyness. Why Baryta Carbonica? Barbara shares that she frequently uses this remedy when working with children with complex needs—those who may have autism, ADHD, eczema, or other developmental challenges. Baryta Carbonica, she explains, is like a “little cloud” gently carrying a timid child, helping them feel safe, supported, and a little more confident. While not always a deep constitutional remedy, it’s often used at the beginning of a child’s homoeopathic journey. As an opening remedy, it can reveal deeper layers, making way for more targeted treatment later. A Remedy for Shyness, Delays & Emotional Insecurity Children who benefit from Baryta Carbonica are typically shy, sensitive, and fearful of the outside world. They may: Be developmentally delayed—late to walk, talk, or meet milestones Show social anxiety and avoid unfamiliar places Cling to parents, especially mum, and resist going out or visiting new environments React strongly to loud noises like hand dryers or hoovers Become anxious if taken out of familiar surroundings Barbara describes how Baryta Carbonica gently helps these children “step outside their shell,” increasing confidence and emotional resilience in subtle, but significant ways. Not Just for Kids – Elderly and Adults Too While the remedy is often used for children, Barbara notes that it can also support older children and adults. In the elderly, Baryta Carbonica may be helpful in cases of cognitive decline, such as dementia, when adults start to show childlike behaviours or lose confidence in themselves. This shows the versatility of Baryta Carbonica—not just a remedy for young children, but also for the young at heart, or those whose confidence has diminished over time. Case Example: Real Change Through Homoeopathy Barbara shares a touching case of a non-verbal six-year-old girl who was highly sensitive to noise and emotionally attached to her mum. After taking Baryta Carbonica for just a few weeks, the girl began showing signs of independence, was more willing to go out, and even became more sociable at school. Teachers noticed she was “coming out of her shell”—playing more, engaging with classmates, and navigating the school day with greater ease. A Holistic View – Treating the Family Too Barbara explains that treating a child often means working with the whole family. For children with autism or other complex conditions, she always starts by asking parents what their biggest challenge is, and then gradually peels back the layers. She also treats parents—especially mothers—whose emotional health can directly impact their children. Issues like unprocessed trauma or chronic stress can influence the child’s development, so addressing both can lead to significant improvements in the whole family’s wellbeing. Gut Health, Sensitivities & Lifestyle Factors In her holistic approach, Barbara considers gut health, diet, lifestyle, and environmental toxins. Many children she treats are extremely sensitive—to food textures, loud sounds, clothing, or even household chemicals. Healing the gut and reducing triggers can help children become more emotionally and physically balanced. Barbara beautifully sums up Baryta Carbonica as a remedy that gently supports the child until they’re ready to lead the way. It doesn’t force change but allows the child to open up at their own pace. Whether for a shy child, an overwhelmed parent, or an elderly person in decline, this homoeopathic remedy offers quiet, transformative strength. In this warm and thoughtful episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith speaks with homoeopath Priyanka Jadhav about one of the most deeply nourishing remedies in homoeopathy—Calcarea Carbonica. Known for its slow and steady nature, Calcarea Carbonica is perfect for those who crave security, comfort, and routine, yet feel overwhelmed by responsibility or change. Where It Comes From – And Why That Matters Calcarea Carbonica is derived from the inner layer of oyster shells. Priyanka explains that this origin reflects the remedy’s essence—soft, sensitive, and vulnerable on the inside, with a hard protective shell on the outside. People who benefit from this remedy tend to be thoughtful, grounded, and hardworking. They seek stability and thrive on routine but can struggle when life forces them to adapt. Key Personality Traits and Physical Signs People needing Calcarea Carbonica are often: Sensitive, anxious, and easily overwhelmed by responsibility Slow but reliable and emotionally warm Family-oriented, preferring to stay at home in comfortable, familiar surroundings Prone to weight gain, sluggish metabolism, and chilliness—especially cold feet Craving eggs, sweets, and comfort food Priyanka notes that these individuals often appear calm and composed on the outside, but inside, they may be paddling furiously—like a swan gliding across water. When to Think of Calcarea Carbonica This remedy has a wide range of applications, both physical and emotional. Priyanka highlights its use for: Digestive issues such as constipation, bloating, and sluggish digestion Sinus sensitivities and reactivity to damp, cold weather Anxiety rooted in fear of change, loss, or illness Sleep issues caused by emotional stress or nightmares Cravings for indigestible items like chalk or pencil erasers—especially in children It’s especially helpful when symptoms start after emotional trauma or life upheaval, such as grief, loss, or natural disasters. Real-Life Healing Stories Priyanka shares two powerful cases. The first is a woman suffering from type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, and frozen shoulder—symptoms that began after she lost her home in a hurricane. She felt stuck emotionally and physically. After receiving Calcarea Carbonica, her sleep improved, pain subsided, and she regained her independence and emotional peace. The second case involves a young man overwhelmed with health anxiety following the death of a friend. He experienced panic attacks, insomnia, and digestive issues. Within two weeks of taking Calcarea Carbonica, he reported feeling emotionally stable and physically well, with no further emergency calls. Differentiating It from Other Remedies Mary and Priyanka compare Calcarea Carbonica with other commonly used remedies: Sulphur: More intellectual, eccentric, and independent; feels hot rather than cold. Pulsatilla: Gentle, affectionate, and seeks love and approval, but less overwhelmed by responsibility. This comparison helps homoeopaths choose the right remedy by considering emotional makeup, reactions to weather, and behaviour under stress. Acute and Chronic Use While Calcarea Carbonica is often used for chronic conditions, it can also work well in acute cases—particularly for children experiencing digestive upset, teething discomfort, or unusual cravings. It is also helpful for elderly individuals stuck in emotional or physical patterns, offering a gentle push toward healing and mobility. The Core of Calcarea Carbonica If there’s one key takeaway, Priyanka says, it’s this: people who benefit from Calcarea Carbonica often suffer when change disrupts their routine. Stability is their comfort zone. Supporting them through that change, with the right remedy, can transform lives. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, Mary welcomes her friend and fellow homoeopath, Jessica de Barco. Now based in Colombia and working exclusively online, Jessica shares her deep experience with one particularly powerful remedy—Cina. Often known for its role in treating intestinal worms, Cina is far more than just a parasite remedy. Jessica explains how its emotional and physical reach can make a life-changing difference, particularly for children and families. The Link Between Parasites and Emotions Jessica explains that Cina is traditionally associated with pinworms and roundworms, especially in children. Classic signs include an itchy bottom, tantrums, bedwetting, and disturbed sleep. But in practice, many children don't show those typical signs—symptoms like joint pain, headaches, or just emotional instability can also be clues. She emphasises that parasite infections are far more common than most people realise. In many cases, only one family member is affected, despite good hygiene, suggesting a deeper susceptibility. Cina as a Clearing Remedy Jessica describes Cina as a clearing remedy, useful for starting the healing process. While it might help expel worms and calm behaviour, it’s often just the first step. Long-term resilience, especially gut health, requires further support with other remedies. She also shares that children with autism or ADHD seem more prone to parasite issues, making Cina even more relevant in those cases. Emotional Outbursts and Behaviour Beyond the gut, Cina is a remarkable remedy for intense emotional behaviour. Jessica often sees children with directed aggression—tantrums aimed at siblings or parents, even hitting or throwing. It's not random anger; it's reactive, sharp, and often stems from internal restlessness. Unlike remedies like Chamomilla, where the child is distressed due to pain, the Cina child is irritable from within, almost like their body is being invaded. Jessica notes this as symbolic of the parasitic presence—an energy that doesn’t belong. A Memorable Case Jessica shares a case of an 8-year-old boy with bedwetting, nightmares, fidgeting, and sudden violent outbursts. The mother felt helpless and overwhelmed. After a week on Cina, he passed worms, and within five weeks, he was calmer, more expressive, and more emotionally stable. Jessica observed a physical transformation as well—the boy looked less pale and thin, had more energy, and even started thriving socially and academically. Cina opened the door to deeper healing, which continued with follow-up remedies. Beyond Worms: Cina's Other Uses Cina also supports digestive discomfort, especially spasmodic pains around the navel, worse after eating. It’s useful during teething, sometimes resembling Chamomilla, but with more irritability and anger. Jessica warns that if Cina doesn’t work, don’t give up on homoeopathy—it just means another remedy is more suitable. Remedies like Sulphur, Calcarea Carbonica, Teucrium, or constitutional support might be needed. Jessica’s key message: Cina almost always has an emotional component. If you notice intense impatience, emotional outbursts, or behavioural disturbances alongside gut issues, Cina may be the remedy that helps bring balance—not just physically, but emotionally too. In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes back homeopath Elisa Joulfaian for an in-depth look at the powerful remedy Lycopodium. Though not always the first remedy that comes to mind for first aid, Lycopodium is surprisingly useful in both acute and chronic situations—especially when digestive issues and anxiety are involved. Lycopodium and the Digestive System Elisa begins by highlighting Lycopodium’s strong connection to digestion. It’s her go-to remedy for bloating, gas, and digestive upset—especially when the pain or discomfort is focused on the right side of the body. It’s also helpful when symptoms worsen between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., a key characteristic of the remedy. Lycopodium is particularly useful after heavy meals or when someone feels uncomfortably full but still wants to eat more. This paradoxical combination—a big appetite with digestive distress—is typical in Lycopodium cases. It’s even suitable for colicky babies or children with gas. Confidence, Anxiety, and the Lycopodium Personality One of Lycopodium’s defining emotional traits is the contrast between outward confidence and inner anxiety. Elisa describes this as someone who may appear bold or controlling but is secretly afraid of failure or rejection. This shows up frequently in children who act bossy or demanding but then hide behind their parent’s leg when confronted. Adults with a Lycopodium picture may seem confident in public, but suffer from self-doubt internally. This remedy is especially helpful before public speaking or high-pressure situations where nerves take over. It’s also commonly associated with reading difficulties or dyslexia, which often stem from a fear of failure. Comparing Lycopodium and Nux Vomica Mary and Elisa compare Lycopodium with another popular remedy—Nux Vomica. While both can treat digestive complaints, the emotional profiles differ. Nux Vomica types are driven, intense, and impatient, often pushing through pain or discomfort to get things done. In contrast, Lycopodium individuals are more laid-back outwardly but deeply affected by anxiety, self-doubt, and the fear of underperforming. Nux Vomica personalities also tend to overwork and overplan—even during rest or holidays—while Lycopodium people are more inclined to retreat and recover quietly, though they still want to be seen as competent. Physical and Emotional Clues to Look For Elisa explains that choosing the right remedy isn’t just about physical symptoms—it’s about matching those with emotional traits and patterns. She recommends looking for at least three strong indicators across physical and emotional areas. For Lycopodium, key clues include: Symptoms worse from 4–8 p.m. Right-sided issues (like eczema, pain, or throat inflammation) Gas, bloating, or overeating Anxiety around performance or failure Reading or word recall difficulties Interestingly, Lycopodium can also help with skin conditions like eczema (especially right-sided) and even facial tics or involuntary movements. A Family Favourite Remedy Elisa points out that Lycopodium is one of those rare remedies that people often return to again and again. If it suits a person constitutionally, it tends to be effective across multiple situations—whether it’s a physical flare-up or emotional stress. This makes it a strong candidate for your home first aid kit. Mary adds that Lycopodium often helps clarify the picture and open the door to deeper healing. It’s both versatile and transformative, especially when physical complaints are intertwined with emotional patterns. In this insightful episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes back Dr. Anthony de Pontes for a deep dive into the homeopathic remedy Thuja. The conversation explores the emotional and physical layers this powerful remedy can help heal—especially in people who are holding on to deep-rooted shame, secrecy, trauma, or suppressed symptoms. Understanding Thuja’s Emotional Depth Dr. de Pontes shares that Thuja is more than just a remedy—it’s a transformative healing tool for people who feel fragmented due to past trauma, especially related to shame, sexual abuse, and secrecy. These individuals often hide behind perfectionism or a cheerful façade, but inside, they may feel broken or “dirty.” Thuja helps lift these emotional weights, allowing healing to begin at a soul-deep level. The Fragmented State and Overcompensation Thuja is often needed when there’s emotional or physical overcompensation. A person may seem highly functional, driven, or even flawless on the outside, but this can be a mask hiding deep emotional wounds. Dr. de Pontes explains how trauma can cause people to “fragment,” pushing aspects of themselves aside to cope. Thuja works gently to bring wholeness back to the person. Physical Signs and Suppression Thuja isn’t just about emotional healing—it also addresses a range of physical conditions tied to suppressed emotional experiences. Common symptoms include: Warts (especially genital warts) Cysts and fibroids Hormonal imbalance Excessive mucus and water retention Dr. de Pontes points out that these physical manifestations often reflect suppressed emotions, especially in cases related to the HPV vaccine or unresolved trauma. Thuja can help bring buried experiences to the surface and initiate deep healing. Thuja and Homeopathy for Eczema One important takeaway from this episode is how homeopathy for eczema isn't just about treating the skin. Eczema can be a sign of inner imbalance or suppression. When we use steroids or other suppressive treatments, the root issue may remain unresolved and later manifest in more serious ways—such as asthma or arthritis. Thuja plays a vital role in addressing the emotional origin of such chronic skin conditions, including eczema, by helping the body and mind release what’s been pushed down. Supporting Emotional Healing and Remedy Reactions Dr. de Pontes also discusses the importance of recognising emotional aggravations—temporary worsening of symptoms—as part of the healing process. He emphasises the need for homeopaths to support patients through this stage and help them understand it’s a sign the remedy is working. Emotional release is often part of recovery. Thuja can sometimes stir intense emotions. For sensitive patients, even holding the remedy can be enough to feel its effects. This shows how deeply energetic homeopathy is and how powerfully it can act when the remedy matches the patient’s core state. A Remedy for Modern Times Mary and Dr. de Pontes agree that Thuja is increasingly relevant in today’s world, where secrecy, shame, and emotional overload are common. In a society where privacy is disappearing and social pressures are rising, more people are struggling with internal fragmentation. Thuja helps restore inner coherence and supports long-term emotional resilience. In this heartfelt episode, Tracey Campbell joins Mary Greensmith to dive deep into the emotional and physical uses of Ignatia, a powerful and often underused homeopathic remedy. Best known for its support in times of grief, Ignatia has a wide range of applications—from emotional trauma to physical symptoms like sore throats and headaches. When to Reach for Ignatia Tracey explains that Ignatia homeopathic remedy is especially helpful during moments of acute emotional stress—such as fresh grief, heartbreak, homesickness, or saying goodbye to a loved one. It’s the remedy she reaches for when there’s a lump in the throat, suppressed tears, or the kind of sadness that makes it hard to breathe. It’s also useful for children dealing with loss (like a pet passing away) and adults who feel emotionally stuck or unable to express themselves. Emotional and Physical Signs Ignatia isn’t just for emotional healing. It’s effective for physical symptoms connected to emotion, such as: Sore throats with a “lump” or spasm sensation Stitching or prickling headaches (like a nail being driven into one spot) Sleep disturbances caused by emotional tension Hypersensitivity and nervous energy Tracey and Mary describe how Ignatia homeopathic remedy often reveals itself through a deep sigh, a sign of emotional release, or when someone can't “find their voice.” It can even help someone begin to speak their truth after long periods of suppression. Real-Life Case: The Boy Who Missed His Rabbit Tracey shares a touching story of a young boy who was suffering from recurring sore throats and disrupted sleep. Doctors couldn’t find anything wrong, but a homeopathic consultation revealed the emotional cause: the boy’s favourite rabbit had gone missing. With a few doses of Ignatia, his emotional release led to a dramatic improvement in both mood and health—showcasing the beautiful mind-body connection in homeopathy. Beyond Grief: Versatility of Ignatia Though often labeled as a grief remedy, Ignatia homeopathic remedy can also support: Children with homesickness or separation anxiety Individuals overwhelmed by stress who prefer solitude Hypersensitive people who feel emotions deeply Cases of fevers without thirst, sore throats, or mood swings Its action is gentle but profound, and it’s included in many homeopathy kits—just waiting to be rediscovered. Mary and Tracey encourage listeners to explore Ignatia more often. It’s a remedy that helps us feel, process, and ultimately move through difficult emotional states—with grace and support. Whether you're facing fresh grief, emotional overwhelm, or strange physical symptoms linked to emotional holding, Ignatia might be the remedy to consider. In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 Podcast, host Mary Greensmith is joined by homeopath Tracey Campbell to explore the complex world of skin conditions—especially eczema—and how homeopathy can offer gentle, effective support. Tracey shares her journey into full-time practice and her passion for working with individualised homeopathic care. Why Skin Needs a Deeper Look Tracey explains that skin conditions like eczema are often signs of a deeper imbalance within the body—not just surface issues to be suppressed. She discusses how symptoms like fungal infections, sunburn, or rashes might look similar, but each person’s underlying cause is unique. That’s why homeopathy for eczema isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach—it’s tailored to the whole person. Understanding the Whole Picture Rather than focusing solely on the skin, homeopaths explore diet, stress, environment, emotional wellbeing, and personal history. Tracey highlights how symptoms like eczema often follow earlier issues like nappy rash or allergies, and might later be linked to conditions like asthma. Homeopathy looks to support the body holistically and prevent deeper health issues from developing. Matching Remedies to People, Not Just Conditions Tracey walks us through how homeopaths use repertories and materia medica to match skin symptoms—such as dryness, oozing, or itchiness—with constitutional patterns. For example, someone with moist eczema might need a completely different remedy than someone with dry, bumpy eruptions. Emotional state, digestion, sleep, and stress levels all influence remedy choice. Homeopathy Builds Long-Term Resilience Homeopathy for eczema doesn’t just treat the symptom—it helps the body strengthen from within. Tracey describes how regular constitutional prescribing can reduce susceptibility and improve the immune system’s ability to handle stress, allergens, and life changes. The goal is long-term resilience—not just short-term relief. Potency and Patience: A Gentle Approach Tracey also explains how potencies are selected with care. With sensitive skin, lower potencies and gentle prescribing are often best. Healing may take time—especially for chronic eczema—but meaningful change is possible, and the process is empowering. Connecting with the Body As clients begin homeopathic care, they also start reconnecting with their bodies—tracking changes, understanding patterns, and becoming more in tune with what their body needs. Tracey notes that this self-awareness is a beautiful part of the healing journey. Homeopathy for eczema is about so much more than skin—it’s about understanding the whole person and helping the body heal from the inside out. With curiosity, patience, and support, long-term transformation is possible. In this episode, Mary Greensmith chats with Alice Glendinning, a homeopath practicing with Homeopathy 247. Alice trained at the Centre for Homeopathic Education in London and now lives in Ireland. Alongside her homeopathy work, she’s also studying plant-based nutrition and herbalism, fueled by her love of gardening and natural health. What Happens When You Take a Remedy? Alice explains that homeopathic remedies don’t suppress symptoms like conventional medicine. Instead, they help the body regain balance by nudging it to resolve underlying imbalances. This often means symptoms change, clear, or reappear temporarily as part of a healing response. The body is incredibly intelligent, Alice says, and sometimes it needs help clearing old trauma, stress, or past illnesses. Remedies can trigger physical or emotional reactions—like vomiting, vivid dreams, or tears—as part of this natural release. Symptoms as Signals Rather than seeing symptoms as problems, homeopaths treat them as helpful signs. Just like a car dashboard light, symptoms indicate something deeper. A good remedy doesn’t just remove the signal—it helps fix the underlying issue so the signal isn’t needed anymore. Proving, Reactions, and Healing Responses Alice and Mary break down the difference between three concepts: Proving: When a well person takes a remedy repeatedly, they might start experiencing new symptoms related to that remedy. This is a known process in homeopathy to understand remedy effects. Reaction: When a person experiences a shift—physical, emotional, or both—after taking a remedy. This is a sign the body is responding. Healing Response: When the remedy stimulates a gentle or strong release, like crying, coughing up mucus, or getting a temporary rash, as the body works through something old or unresolved. Examples from Practice Alice shares touching stories, including a young girl with an eating disorder whose vivid dreams showed her healing journey, and a man whose depression and hidden prostate issue both improved after a single remedy. These stories illustrate how deeply individual and unpredictable healing can be. When and How to Take Remedies Mary and Alice remind listeners that less is more. Take a remedy, then stop and observe. If symptoms improve, don’t continue dosing. If nothing happens, a few repeat doses might help—but don’t overdo it. Aggravations are rare, and reactions are usually healing signs, not cause for fear. The Importance of Professional Guidance For those unsure or anxious about self-prescribing, Alice strongly recommends working with a professional. Sensitivity, energy levels, remedy types, and potency all factor into the healing process—homeopaths are trained to navigate these complexities safely and effectively. In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes Dr. Devang Shah, a homeopath based in Mumbai, India. Dr. Shah shares his insights into homeopathy training in India, his approach to musculoskeletal conditions, and how homeopathy works holistically to support healing. Homeopathy Education in India Dr. Shah explains that homeopaths in India undergo 4.5 years of formal medical study, followed by a one-year internship—similar to mainstream medical doctors. The main difference is that instead of pharmacology, homeopaths study materia medica, which covers homeopathic remedies. Public Awareness of Homeopathy Homeopathy is well-known in many parts of India, particularly in cities like Calcutta where people often use remedies like Arnica and Belladonna at home. In more rural areas, awareness is growing. The more skilled homeopaths graduate, the more homeopathy spreads. Treating Musculoskeletal Conditions Dr. Shah began treating chronic pain conditions after being invited to consult at a friend’s orthopedic hospital. There, he treated conditions like osteoarthritis and back pain—especially where conventional medicine offered little relief. The Link Between Stress and Pain Stress often worsens back pain, whether emotional (grief, anxiety) or physical. Dr. Shah explains that homeopathy addresses both physical and emotional causes of pain, offering more complete and lasting relief than simply masking symptoms with painkillers. Understanding the Vital Force In homeopathy, the “vital force” is the body’s innate healing power. When this force is weakened, symptoms appear. Remedies stimulate the vital force to restore balance and activate healing from within. How Remedies Are Selected Homeopaths follow the “law of similars”—choosing remedies that produce symptoms similar to the patient’s condition. For example, Apis (made from the honeybee) is used for conditions that mimic a bee sting: swelling, redness, and burning pain relieved by cold. Proving Remedies and Materia Medica Homeopathic remedies are “proved” on healthy individuals who record physical, emotional, and mental changes. This data forms the basis of materia medica—the homeopath’s guide to choosing remedies. These records have been collected for over 200 years. Avoiding Remedy Overuse Unlike conventional medicine, homeopathic remedies are not meant to be taken continuously. Once symptoms improve, the remedy should be paused. Overuse may lead to “proving” symptoms—new symptoms created by the remedy itself. Proper timing and follow-up are key. Chronic Illness and Long-Term Benefits Even long-standing conditions like rheumatoid arthritis can improve significantly. Dr. Shah shares a case where a patient avoided costly injections and painkillers thanks to homeopathy. While early treatment brings the best outcomes, even later stages can benefit. Homeopathy and Conventional Medicine Homeopathy can be safely used alongside conventional treatments. Dr. Shah notes that patients on medications like thyroid pills often reduce or even stop them under supervision as homeopathy restores balance and health. This episode offers a deep and clear explanation of how homeopathy works—especially in treating musculoskeletal issues. Dr. Devang Shah highlights the importance of holistic understanding, symptom matching, and the body’s own ability to heal. In this heartfelt episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, Dr. Varsha visits Mary Greensmith at her serene island home on Alderney. After five years of working together online, this in-person meeting becomes a beautiful opportunity to reflect on community, simplicity, and the healing lifestyle that homeopathy can support. A Slice of Paradise: Life on Alderney Dr. Varsha describes arriving in Alderney, a small island with just 2,000 residents, as entering a piece of paradise. Coming from busy Delhi, India, the contrast is profound. She marvels at the peaceful pace of life, the lack of traffic, and the abundance of nature and fresh food. Mary shares how she’s built a self-sufficient lifestyle, growing her own food and living in harmony with the island’s rhythms. This way of life, though normal to her, deeply inspires Varsha, who reflects on how disconnected urban living can be. A Home-Grown Life and a Homeopathic Spirit Varsha experiences her first fully home-grown meal—fresh potatoes straight from the garden—and is amazed by the flavor and simplicity. Mary explains how everything on the island needs to be planned in advance, including deliveries, which has taught her patience and appreciation for what’s available. They both connect this simple, thoughtful lifestyle with the core philosophy of homeopathy: less is more. Just like remedies are selected with care and precision, island living requires thoughtfulness and intentional choices. Community, Independence & Clarity The conversation turns to clarity—knowing what you really want in life. Mary believes her lifestyle is a result of making clear choices. She encourages listeners to be bold in their desires and surround themselves with people who support their values. Both women reflect on the power of community. Homeopathy 247 has not only connected practitioners worldwide, but has created a supportive family of like-minded individuals. They discuss how important it is to find people who uplift your vision instead of doubting it. The Power of Mind and Manifestation Varsha and Mary discuss how emotional health and physical health are connected. They agree that mindset, stress, and inherited emotional patterns play a significant role in wellness. Taking charge of your thoughts—and your life—can create real transformation. A Visit That Changed Everything By the end of her visit, Dr. Varsha feels deeply transformed. She’s inspired to make changes in her own life and practice. Making her own flower bouquet for the first time and experiencing island life firsthand has left a lasting impression. Mary reminds us that experiences shape us. In this heartwarming and insightful episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes Alexandra Ross, a homeopathy student living in rural West Cork, Ireland. Alexandra shares her personal journey into the world of homeopathy, starting with her experiences on her organic dairy farm and how her curiosity about animal health led her to a transformative path of study. From Cows to Clinics: Alexandra’s Introduction to Homeopathy Alexandra’s journey into homeopathy began not with people—but with cows. Living on a farm with her husband, she encountered situations where conventional veterinary approaches weren’t effective. Through research and recommendations, she stumbled upon homeopathy for livestock and enrolled in a course in Germany. Her skepticism vanished the moment a cow in distress delivered a calf “like a bullet” after being given the remedy Caulophyllum. Encouraged by this experience and supported by a homeopathic vet, Alexandra’s interest deepened. When her trusted vet retired, she realized she needed to learn more—not just for the animals but also for her family. Choosing the Path of Study Alexandra signed up for a home prescriber course at the Irish School of Homeopathy, which quickly turned into a full four-year commitment. What started as a practical step for supporting her children’s health became a deeply transformative life experience. She describes the decision to study homeopathy as both a financial and emotional investment. Travelling to Dublin for in-person classes required planning and expense, but Alexandra values the energy and connection of being physically present with classmates and teachers. A Breakdown of the Four-Year Course Year 1: Students dive into the foundational remedies (polycrests) and philosophy. The Organon by Hahnemann serves as a guiding text. Assignments vary from essays to creative projects like drawings and poems. Year 2: Focus shifts to chronic care and miasms (inherited patterns of illness). Students begin working on real case studies and learn to analyze and prescribe based on deeper themes. Year 3: Students begin their supervised clinical work—seeing real clients while being guided by experienced mentors. Homework now comes from actual case documentation and consultation. Year 4: A continuation of the clinical journey with more responsibility and deeper integration of previous learning. Students participate in school-run clinics and are supported through one-on-one supervision. The Inner Transformation Beyond textbooks and remedies, Alexandra emphasizes how studying homeopathy changes your inner world. Emotional shifts, personal healing, and unexpected breakthroughs are common. Grief she had long suppressed surfaced during her studies, and through support from the school and her own homeopath, she began to truly heal. Alexandra says the friendships formed during the course are powerful and lasting—because everyone is growing, learning, and supporting each other in a shared journey. Advice for Those Considering the Course Her biggest advice? “If you’re even a little bit interested, just try the first year.” Many students only take the foundation year and still walk away with a life-changing understanding of health and healing—even if they don’t pursue a full license. In this episode of the Homeopathy 247 podcast, host Mary Greensmith welcomes back homeopath and author Lisa Robbins. Lisa introduces her newly published novel, Widdershins, and shares her journey through homeopathy, grief, and the power of healing through storytelling. What Is “Widdershins”? “Widdershins” means moving counterclockwise—a symbolic gesture of going against the norm. Lisa’s novel follows Robin McFarland, a widowed schoolteacher in Edinburgh, whose life turns upside down after the sudden loss of his wife. Struggling to raise three children while battling emotional and physical collapse, Robin finds little relief in conventional medicine. Eventually, he seeks out alternative therapies—opening the door to transformation. Why Lisa Wrote the Book Lisa’s inspiration for Widdershins stemmed from her own experiences with grief and frustration with conventional medical treatments for her children’s frequent infections. She began exploring homeopathy after noticing the side effects of antibiotics and eventually trained as a homeopath herself. The novel is deeply personal, shaped by Lisa’s own grief and the healing she found in alternative approaches. She hopes the story will resonate with readers and help normalize seeking different paths to health. Grief, Healing, and Homeopathy Lisa discusses how grief is often misunderstood and under-supported in conventional medicine. She describes it as an overwhelming, all-consuming emotion that impacts everything—from confidence to physical health. She emphasizes that healing doesn’t come from reading a manual—it comes through experiencing art, music, and emotional connection. In the novel, Robin’s healing process is subtle. He doesn’t realize at first that things are changing, but through alternative care and a quirky but wise nanny (who acts like a homeopathic remedy herself), he and his children begin to find balance. Changing Perceptions Through Story Mary and Lisa highlight how fiction can gently shift people’s perceptions about health and healing. Novels can reach people who may never have considered homeopathy or holistic therapies. Just as Mary herself discovered homeopathy through a series of novels, Lisa hopes her book opens minds to the idea that “there is another way.” Homeopathy, Lifestyle, and Wider Influence Lisa shares how once she embraced homeopathy, it had a ripple effect on her life. She took up yoga, meditation, and even sound healing. The mindset shift of thinking “Widdershins”—going a different way—brought more joy, creativity, and deeper connection to her world. Widdershins is available worldwide through Amazon, receiving glowing five-star reviews. Lisa is currently working on new novels, each aiming to inspire readers to rethink their understanding of life, healing, and health. In this episode of Homeopathy 247, host Mary Greensmith chats with homeopath Anna Bihari, who specializes in helping children with PANS and PANDAS. Anna is an active practitioner with Homeopathy 247 and also provides support in two Facebook communities—one focused on PANS/PANDAS and another on detoxing with homeopathy. What Are PANS and PANDAS? Anna explains that these are pediatric autoimmune conditions that affect neurological and psychiatric health. PANS: Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome PANDAS: Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Streptococcal Infections These conditions can cause a sudden onset of symptoms like obsessive-compulsive behaviors, anxiety, aggression, and tics. They are often triggered by infections or environmental stressors, and many families feel overwhelmed navigating conventional treatment routes. Why Parents Seek Homeopathy Anna shares that many parents turn to homeopathy after trying other options that haven’t brought relief. They’re often searching for a more holistic, gentle, and effective approach. Anna reassures listeners that homeopathy can be deeply supportive, not only for the child’s symptoms but also for the emotional toll on the whole family. Homeopathy’s Individualized Approach No two children are treated the same way in homeopathy. Anna emphasizes how treatment plans are tailored to each child’s specific symptoms, personality, and medical history. Whether a child is dealing with aggression, OCD, sleep issues, or other challenges, remedies are selected to match the whole picture—not just the diagnosis. Detoxing and Layers of Healing Another key topic discussed is the idea of detoxing with homeopathy. Anna talks about how certain toxins or medications (like antibiotics or vaccines) may play a role in triggering or worsening symptoms in sensitive children. Homeopathy can gently support the body in detoxifying these substances and clearing blocks to healing. Healing is rarely a straight line, and Anna encourages parents to be patient and open-minded. Often, multiple layers need to be addressed over time, including immune stress, emotional trauma, and inherited patterns. Finding Support and Community Anna’s work in Facebook groups offers daily support and encouragement to families on this journey. These spaces allow parents to ask questions, share experiences, and feel less alone. Anna notes how valuable it is for parents to connect with others who truly understand the challenges of PANS/PANDAS. In this episode, Mary Greensmith chats with homeopath Mary Cosmas, who practices in London and East Sussex. Having grown up in a family of homeopaths, Mary has seen firsthand how homeopathy for anxiety and other conditions can transform lives. She now uses her knowledge to support clients, friends, and family through the power of natural healing. What Is Anxiety from a Homeopathic View? Mary explains that anxiety often stems from a fear of what might happen, rather than a response to something happening right now. In homeopathy for anxiety, practitioners don’t just treat the feeling itself—they explore the root causes and emotional layers behind it. This holistic approach to anxiety helps people build resilience and feel calmer even when life stays challenging. Homeopathic Treatment for Acute Anxiety When someone feels anxious suddenly—like before a speech or flight—homeopaths focus on current symptoms. Physical feelings like sweating, palpitations, or needing fresh air help narrow down the right natural remedies for anxiety. For immediate needs, a carefully matched remedy can bring natural anxiety relief quickly, calming both mind and body. Homeopathy for Chronic Anxiety If anxiety has been building for years, it’s important to go deeper. Mary discusses how homeopathic treatment for anxiety involves a detailed history, exploring everything from childhood traumas to longstanding fears. Healing anxiety through homeopathy is like peeling an onion: layer by layer. Over time, this deeper work helps reset emotional responses and promotes true, lasting change—offering an effective path for how to treat anxiety naturally. How Homeopaths Find the Right Remedy Finding the right anxiety remedies involves gathering at least 5–6 symptoms. A repertory—a large reference book—lists remedies based on physical and emotional signs. Then, homeopaths cross-check in the Materia Medica, which describes full remedy profiles. This careful matching ensures a truly personalized approach, not a one-size-fits-all solution, highlighting why alternative treatments for anxiety like homeopathy are so unique. Examples of Helpful Remedies Mary and Mary discuss some well-known homeopathic remedies for stress and emotional health: Ignatia: For sudden grief and emotional shocks. Natrum Muriaticum: For silent grief and emotional walls. Pulsatilla: For clinginess, mood swings, and needing reassurance. Baryta Carbonica: For shyness and social fears, especially in children. Gelsemium and Argentum Nitricum: For performance and anticipatory anxiety. Each remedy fits a different emotional pattern, proving why choosing the right one is so important when seeking natural remedies for anxiety. Homeopathy doesn’t force healing; it gently encourages the body’s natural ability to recover. Healing happens at each person’s unique pace, and true improvement can transform emotional wellbeing from the inside out. For anyone exploring natural anxiety relief or searching for alternative treatments for anxiety, homeopathy offers a compassionate, personalized solution.
