Camtron 5000 is an Albany based rapper and songwriter with an at time comedic and irreverent lyrical style. Benno Greene talks to him about his new album "His Master's Voice," his musical influences, and his upcoming performance at Song City Troy on November 11th.
Albany's cabaret license law was enacted in 2012 to limit bars and other venues holding live performances. Business owners, DJ's and music fans have complained ever since about the comlicated and vague rules which can take a great deal of time and be difficult to navigate. On November 3, the Albany Common Council took up a proposed revision to the law. We will hear excepts from the meeting, beginning with public comment from Marlon Anderson and followed by the Council's debate.
Here we are joined by Paul Stewart of the Underground Railroad Education Center as we discuss the overall history of the Underground Railroad. On Saturday, October 18, 2025, Hudson Mohawk Magazine Network Roaming Labor Correspondent Willie Terry attended the Albany and Troy "No King Day Protest." The No Kings protests, also known internationally as the No Dictators or No Tyrants protests, were demonstrations against what the organizers describe as the authoritarian policies of Donald Trump and corruption in his administration. In this part 4 of a series of labor segments, Willie recorded sounds and speakers from the event and interviewed participants about why they were at the No King protest.
The Albany Civilian Police Review Board has seen several members leave or resign in the last few months. The resignations occur as the board has come into conflict with the Albany Common Council and Mayor over the implementation of a voter mandated re-organization of the board. It has proven difficult and complicted to move the review board into the city bureaucracy while maintaining its investigative independence. Moses Nagel spoke with long time CPRB member Paul Collins-Hackett, also known as Batman, about the state of affairs.
The Albany Green Party, working in coalition with RCV Albany and Unite NY, is hosting a presentation on Ranked Choice Voting and Proportional Representation on Saturday Nov. 8 at 2 PM at the main Albany Public Library on Washington Ave. PR-RCV is a simple method used around the world, including in the United States in the cities of Cambridge, MA, Portland (Maine and Oregon), and Minneapolis, and historically in NYC, to elect candidates to a legislature based on the proportion of votes they receive in the general election. Bargain Grocery is a mission-driven retail grocery store where every purchase helps fight hunger. Started in Utica and recently expanded into Troy, the store sells quality groceries—often 30% to 50% below big-box retail prices—by sourcing surplus, close-dated, and overstocked food from major suppliers. At Bargain Grocery, a Cornell University study found that a $100 basket of food at our store was equivalent to $400 elsewhere. With many worried about increased hunger as the federal shutdown threatens funding for the SNAP program, program founder Pastor Mike Sevello talks with Mark Dunlea for Hudson Mohawk Magazine.
