Description

Sick of the hustle, constant self comparison, and the mom guilt I was spoon fed my entire life, I gave hustle culture (and my limiting beliefs), the big middle finger, and started the wild journey of learning how to love and prioritize myself and I finally let go of the bullsh*t society peppers us with on the reg. Along the way, I rediscovered the voice I had lost, and discovered a passion for showing other women how to do the same. Now I’m sharing my journey with you, along with stories of other women who have taken back control of their lives, walked away from hustle culture and finally started living with purpose and authenticity. Join me each week for raw and real convos about what it really means to be a woman in the world today.

In this episode, I'm sharing why I decided to take on the overwhelming and rewarding process of learning and baking sourdough bread. Spoiler alert, it's not all about the tasty gem at the end. I dig into the concept of finding joy in the process rather than solely focusing on the end result, thank goodness because I'm truly sucking at the sourdough gig. I encourage listeners to explore activities that bring them true happiness and talk about the importance of rediscovering the joy of experiencing life for the pure pleasure of it, instead of grinding through for the accolades and only focusing on what we can produce or achieve. Join me this week on a little self discovery journey and what I'm learning from this very scientific process of bread baking.    Join Me on This Adventure Feeling overwhelmed and undervalued? Hallmark holiday movies. Love 'em or hate 'em most of us don't have families or stories that look like that and while I feel pretty sure we all KNOW that, sometimes we still live in la la land (and not the one with Ryan Gosling) and we think holidays will somehow look like a snow fallen walk on the Christmas Tree Farm with the suddenly single, massively good looking, flannel clad, gent. Just me? Truth is, our families and our lives don't look like any of that crap. They are messy, and full of emotions and blended, and non traditional and alll of the things we don't see reflected back to us. So, no surprise it can be hard to reconcile what life looks like on tv and what real life looks like. I'm talking this week about the realities of the holidays when your family looks a little less traditional, when the holidays come with co-parenting, blended families, adult children, grief and all the other things that we deal with outside of moving the damn Elf and keeping the magic alive. Join me this week for tips and honest talk about what you can do to manage your emotions and work towards acceptance during the holiday season.    Join Me on This Adventure Feeling overwhelmed and undervalued? Episode 8 Show Notes: Hustle Culture Hangover: How to Avoid Burnout During the Holidays Listen up, party people! This is an episode you don't want to miss! Burnout, hustle culture, and the endless need to produce got us like 'meh. Join me as I take you through what burnout feels like, how to recognize it and more importantly how to prevent it. Holiday time will break you! Don't head into the season unprepared! Holiday Burnout: The holidays always feel like they run up behind us and we can never catch a break. Not only are you dealing with the exhaustion of daily life but now you have to add the stress of the holidays on top. What we're going to talk about today is what if there was a way to actually break free from the cycle of burnout and reclaim our well being, our self care, our freaking sanity. And so we're going to explore the symptoms of burnout. What is Burnout?: It's typically tied to the workplace, but burnout can actually come to basically anybody. Mom burnout is very, very common. Traditional definition of burnout is that it's that chronic stress that has not been successfully managed. It literally is like an emotional and a physical and a mental hangover from constantly, constantly pushing yourself beyond your limits. What Burnout Looks Like: From juggling multiple different roles whether that’s mother, friend, partner etc. or struggling with the multiple demands of life, there are a lot of reasons to feel burnt out. This is only exasperated during the holidays. Now you're also expected to do crafts and create the magic of the holidays, whatever that is. All of that extra emotional labor starts to pile on during the holidays and pairing that with the unrealistic expectations of what the holidays mean and how we want them to be perfect. Hustle Culture is a Lie: It is a myth that we have to constantly strive and sacrifice in order to be worthy. Our worth is not determined by our productivity or our achievements or the accolades we get for those achievements. How Do We Recognize Burnout?: Before it starts to take over our lives, there are some common things to watch out for. You may feel exhausted, resentful, irritable, indifferent. You may start isolating yourself or maybe you have major headaches. Difficulty concentrating can be a big one as well. You need to start to pay attention to how you feel. Jot down how you feel in your notes app so you can keep track of how you feel when you feel it.  How to Prevent Burnout- Step 1: Setting healthy boundaries, learning to say no to additional commitments. This is super important. During this time of year, because you are going to get invited to everything, and participate in many activities. Use this time to practice saying no to things. How to Prevent Burnout- Step 2: The second thing I want you to think about is to start to incorporate some mindfulness practices like yoga or meditation into your routine. Just take a minute to pause. It doesn't have to be anything special. Just find even 5 minutes for just you. How to Prevent Burnout- Step 3: And then the third thing to do to help prevent burnout is to prioritize your self care. Having a nighttime routine or taking a yoga class can be examples of this. How to Prevent Burnout- Step 4: Another good tip is to delegate tasks whenever possible. Remember it is ok to ask for help. You can’t do everything yourself and a lot of the time these people want to help us.  How to Prevent Burnout- Step 5: You also need to think about taking regular breaks throughout the day. If you are an 8 hour work shift person, get up and move around and take a few minutes away from whatever it is that you need to be working on at work.  How to Incorporate These Into This Holiday Season: Make sure that especially during this time of year, this is not the time to completely revamp your website. That is something that is very tedious and requires a lot of mental thought. So don't bring on big giant tasks like that right now. Give yourself grace, give people around you grace, and just remember to be super, super mindful of how you're feeling.   Join Me on This Adventure Feeling overwhelmed and undervalued? Episode 7 Show Notes: Power to Pause In this episode host, Chasity Campbell invites on TEDx speaker and Pause Pusher, Azia Whitted. Azia works to inspire others to create space for calm in their life. She is a mindfulness coach where she partners with women to provide tools to promote mindful living in the midst of high demands for both them and those connected to them. Through coaching programs, workshops and speaking she shares her experience of overcoming overwhelm with a pause. Azia has been featured in Bold Journey Magazine, Shout DFW and on Ultimate Product Party and TEDx stages. Join us this week as Azia shares how we all have the power to pause.  Azia Introduction: I had the profound opportunity of listening to her speak last year in May, when I attended the Ultimate Product Party conference, it's a two day conference for products based businesses. And I was so incredibly blown away by her opening keynote speech. She is a mindfulness coach where she partners with women to provide tools to promote mindful living in the midst of high demands for both them and those connected to them through coaching programs, workshops and speaking. Azia's Story: As a dance education major in college it lead her to discover her love and connection with yoga. In her mid-thirties, she got to a point where she just hit a wall and something needed to change. She found that it might be amazing to teach kids yoga and give them the tools to find their calm like she felt when she did yoga. Then she thought about how much these tools would also benefit moms and other women.  What That Looks Like With Her Family:  Azia then shares how she uses these tools with her own kids. For her daughter, it looks like a lot of check ins and letting her express her feelings in the present moment. For her younger son, it was finding a calming corner so he can breathe and find peace. A Moment to Pause: Whether it's going for a mid day walk, or journaling. Finding around 30 minutes in your day to be mindful is how she lets go of the stress of her day and find a moment just for her.  Check Ins: These moments of pause led her to start using it to check in with herself. "Sometimes it's just those short little practical things of like, I don't feel like, or even tapping into how you feel, like, if you're going somewhere and you're there out of obligation, do how do you feel when you leave? Do you feel more drained?" These check ins allow you to make sure your cup isn't overflowing so you still have some for you and everyone you are taking care of.  Conclusion- What's Next for Azia: She will be the MC for Ultimate Product Party 2024. As well as opening up a coaching program in the early part of winter and hosting a retreat. The retreat would be a small group of women so they can have conversations and do some yoga.    Join Me on This Adventure Feeling overwhelmed and undervalued? From Sh*t Show to Inner Glow In this episode of Hustle Culture Dropout, I'm sharing the shiz on how I friggin' blew up my life and burned down the chaos that was suffocating me. From scented candles to a sh*t ton of therapy, I took back control of my life. You'll learn how I found my way back to joy and self-discovery in the most unexpected place and how the smallest step has led me right here, to my biggest dreams. So, grab a drink, put on some jazz, and listen in as we flip the script on societal roles, toast to life's little pleasures, and rediscover what makes us unique, relatable, and totally f*cking unstoppable.  My Arizona Trip: I begin the episode, by letting you guys in to my trip last week in Scottsdale, AZ. I spent it with some of my biz besties to sorta hash out the rest of Q4 but also to work through what we want 2024 to look like. While I was there in AZ I started thinking about how far I’ve come. To see what I have done in just 18 months, is literally such a far cry from where I was 10 years ago.  My Story: Ten years ago, I was in the midst of a profound life transformation. I went from being a married, stay-at-home mom to facing divorce with shared custody, and working a full-time job that paid just $13 an hour. But more importantly I went from my whole world being my kids, to realizing I was alone and lost. Losing Myself in My Role as a Mother: I had lived so many years supporting other people’s dreams, raising the kids and giving them the best life I could, it ultimately led me to a path where I was just a shell of myself post divorce. My world was my children's world. The problem with this method of motherhood is that it is not sustainable.  Choosing Me: At the core of this transitional turmoil in my life was the beginning of my journey to choose myself and the realization that I was in control of my feelings, actions, and path in life. I was in charge of my happiness and success. This transformation didn't happen overnight. It took a lot of baby steps, but those little steps led me here. The Bath and Body Works Trip that Started It All: It all started with one tiny decision, one that would change everything: a trip to Bath & Body Works with a BOGO coupon in hand. I got home, lit those candles, started cooking a meal for myself. So with some jazz music playing in the background I ate that damn meal. Alone. Nine years later, in April of 2022, I launched Noura Blanc, my own line of non-toxic, refillable candles. My idea to create a more sustainable candle line literally came to life because of a routine I had created and never let go of.  Taking Time For You: I knew when I launched my candle line that I wanted to create a sustainable candle line, yes. But what I wanted more was to encourage women to find their joy, to reconnect with themselves, to rediscover themselves, and to start prioritizing themselves so they could create a life full of moments where they felt alive outside of their societal roles. Conclusion: That little baby step I took, when I finally took back control of my life and chose me, it led me all the way here, talking to all of you, on this podcast, on my blog, on socials every day and it will lead me into 2024 where all sorts of magic will happen! So think about what little baby step you might be able to do today to move towards that. If you feel like you’ve lost yourself, let’s connect.   Join Me on This Adventure Feeling overwhelmed and undervalued?
