Worldschooling our kids hasn't started off quite like we had planned. Making our way over to Barcelona, where I'm recording this episode, has been eventful. It's been a reminder that you can't anticipate everything, and there are some experiences you just have to live through and get to the other side. I'm sharing the 10 lessons of leadership I have learned on this trip so far in this episode, and how those lessons have been reflected during real-life experiences with my family. In this episode, you will learn about: How our energy sets the tone for our experiences (especially with kids). How our first flight got cancelled and everything that happened next. The #1 trait of a great leader (including moms as a family leader). What I very quickly realized I had to give up on during this trip. Why you don't need to be a perfect leader to be one worth following. What we teach others in our true moments of vulnerability. What handling difficult moments with our kids taught me about leadership. Why authority and vulnerability are complementary to each other.   Get 10% off your Sage Haus House Manager today! If you're curious about how we run our family while traveling the world, get ready to hear it all. In this He Said She Said episode, Dan and I are discussing our decision to worldschool our kids and the plan we crafted to make it all work. This adventure didn't come to fruition overnight. In fact, it took years of convincing me and figuring out the details to even start planning it. Traveling the world with your kids while giving them an education is all about being creative, whether it's making the most of an experience or structuring more traditional learning. It hasn't been easy, but in the end, we believe it will be totally worth it. In this episode, you will learn about: How our year-long plans to travel as a family have started off so far. The real reason we decided to worldschool our kids (and how it relates to business). Why it's so important to let our kids navigate challenges on their own. What you should consider before traveling with your kids, and what not to worry about. How we overcame our biggest reservations to do life together around the world. The proof that hiring help has been completely worth it for us. What our lives would look like if we didn't worldschool and the biggest benefits so far. You only need to be a few steps ahead to be an expert. You don't need to be the most experienced person in your space to be looked at as the go-to expert, but there are a few things you will need to nail if you want to position yourself as one. Becoming a sought-after expert is actually not about knowing everything. In this episode, I'll dive into why your expertise isn't about the years of experience you have—it's your clarity on the topic, the confidence you show, and the connection you have with your audience. In this episode, you will learn about: Redefining the word "expert" and what it means when I use it. The importance of knowing your lane (so you can stand out in it). Why consistency is more important than perfection when showing your expertise. Different strategies you can use for powerfully connecting people. How to make a strategic introduction and why it's so important. Tips for making yourself a valuable resource people love buying from. Why visibility = authority (according to the exposure effect). The one rule you should follow to commit to your visibility with strategy. Mentions: Moms We Admire   Get 10% off your Sage Haus House Manager today! Success doesn't come without mistakes along the way. In my 25 years of running a business, I've been through a lot of ups and downs. Whether you've made a mistake in hiring, firing, pricing, or you're dealing with the internal struggles of worthiness and doubt, I've been there. You'll learn more about the common mistakes people make in entrepreneurship in this episode, along with what I would do differently if I could go back. I'm also sharing some of the uncommon obstacles I've faced and how I dealt with them at the time. In this episode, you will learn about: How I learned about hiring too fast and firing too slow…the hard way. Why it's your responsibility as a leader to preserve the energy of your team. The importance of facing your mistakes (rather than letting them stop you). How trading time for money keeps you stuck and what to do instead. Tips for avoiding burnout and why it's crucial for entrepreneurs and leaders. The value of community and why you need to invest in it from day one. Do you have boundaries, or are you being walked all over? Heather Chauvin helps ambitious women courageously live, work, and parent on their terms. Whether through her coaching, speaking, or living it firsthand, she encourages women to challenge cultural expectations and rewrite the script. If you want to protect your time and energy, you have to draw boundaries in what you're willing to accept from other people. Boundaries, although sometimes uncomfortable to implement, are crucial for finding your aliveness. By taking ownership and taking action, you can build the life you actually want, which you'll hear proof of in this conversation. In this episode, you will learn about: Why it's okay to show up more messy than polished. What aliveness really is and how that exploration has informed Heather's journey. How women tend to struggle with their needs feeling like a burden. Why women become ragingly codependent (and how to solve for it in your life). The types of boundaries you need to have and how it supports your aliveness. How to relieve the pressure of rumination by leaning on people in your circle. Tips for building a life that's actually in alignment with what you want. Why choosing yourself feels scary, especially when you're a mom. You can easily avoid the mistakes that I made. Many of us start businesses while we're still in a place of feeling unworthy of abundance. We're desperate to land clients, so we cast the net wide (too wide), and end up with misaligned clients. Initially, many business owners also underestimate the power of networking and community. If you're just starting out, don't wait to launch your first offer until you feel like it's perfect, and don't wait for the timing to be perfect either. Instead of just talking about doing the thing, actually go do it. In this episode, you will learn about: What I offered when I launched my first business, and why it was exhausting. The one thing that changed which set that business on the path of growth. What happens when you overstuff your offer (and why we feel we need to do it). Questions you can ask to identify the client you're speaking to. Why you don't need a perfect product when you're launching your business. Why you should focus on transformation over strategy when launching your offer. Tips for pricing your offer (hint: it's not for work done by the hour). Why you shouldn't be afraid to go big, especially if your intuition tells you to.     Get 10% off your Sage Haus House Manager today! Why is it so crucial for you to invest in your own visibility? Staying hidden can block your growth and keep you from reaching the level of success you want in your business. But when you lean into your own authentic visibility, you open the door to more clients, revenue, and opportunities. If you want to scale your business, you need to be seen—and not just in a way that gets likes but in a way that also converts. Showing up authentically doesn't just empower others, it empowers your audience too. Today I'm sharing tips for increasing your visibility in a way that feels strategic, sustainable, and aligned with you. In this episode, you will learn about: Why you're hiding in your business (and what you can do about it). How hiding feels safer, but actually costs you more. What it looks like to trust the process of being seen (and how I do it). The one thing you must know before you practice visibility. Who I'm on a mission to serve and how that supports my authentic visibility. How you should measure the success of putting yourself out there. What if I told you that being too nice isn't helping you? Being a "good woman" or a "nice girl" can actually be to your detriment. At the same time, as women, we are conditioned by society to please others and keep the peace. The problem is that "nice girls" live for other people while their dreams go to the grave. If you relate to this, you're not alone—and you're not stuck. Learning to lean into discomfort and taking a leap into being direct could change everything. Getting over decades of programming isn't easy, but your life and business will be better when you do. In this episode, you will learn about: The big mistake I made when playing nice with a company I shouldn't have. The difference between being polite and being nice. Examples of when we hold back from being honest (but we shouldn't). The ways our social programming shows up later in life and sabotages us. Your success can't be measured by how much money you make. Many entrepreneurs set that $1 million milestone for their business thinking that on the other side of that number, they'll find fulfillment and happiness. The reality is that making a million dollars doesn't paint the whole picture of success. The real markers of success aren't represented in numbers on paper. Breaking old family patterns and internal conditioning, creating a happy life with your family, and living a life you don't want to run away from are the true reflections of a life created well. In this episode, you will learn about: What I did to look like a "powerhouse mom" and why it was a lie. How the illusion of success shows up in life and business. The way people project success on social media versus the reality of it. The pressure of building a family while building a business too. The hidden tax on achievement that took me too long to figure out. Three stages of entrepreneurial burnout and what it looked like for me. The big mistake I made out of sheer exhaustion and how it traumatized me. What kind of changes I had to make to crawl my way out of burnout. This is how I really feel about getting older. I just survived another trip around the sun, and while I'm not one to celebrate birthdays, it has allowed me to reflect on where I'm at in my life now. I see a lot of women my age still carrying the weight of societal expectations, and it's time to stop being a "good woman" and stop playing by the rules. When you stop being the "good woman" and you stop apologizing for your desires, your whole world can change. People start treating you differently, and you suddenly become more sought after. In this episode, you will learn about: The expectations women grow up under and how it influences us. Why now is the time for you to start breaking the rules (and invite strategic rebellion). Society's narrative about your expiration date (and why it's irrelevant). What the "good woman" trap is and where the pressure actually comes from. An example of saying no confidently without the need to overexplain or justify it. How embracing rich woman energy changes the way I live my life. Why it's important to stay humble, without downplaying your achievements. Why we need more women talking about money.     Today's episode is brought to you by LinkedVA.
