This week we go round the table sharing our first time in various precarious situations. Categories include "First Public Scandal", "First Time Having Sex", "First Million (Kenya) Shillings" and many more. We invited superstar MC and Radio Presenter Kwambox to join in on the fun. Can you relate to any of the stories? We'd love to hear your 'first time stories' in any of the scenarios we discussed. Please send us a voice note on anchor, or in our DM's (instagram). https://www.instagram.com/itsrelatedipromise/ We cant wait to hear from you on this one! While you are here, you can checkout Kwambox's podcast 'The Box Pod' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sr-DjjiZOc. With love from, Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri & Sharon Machira.
After a two year (unplanned) hiatus we're finally back and we're so excited to resume podcasting! To kick off season two, we invited seasoned media personality Janet Mbugua, to join us as we unpack our toxic traits. Why did we choose this topic? For absolutely no reason, but... it's related, i promise! Loool. This session was nothing short of CATHARTIC! We had deeply missed sharing our experiences on the podcast and it was a beautiful reminder of the wonderful sisterhood & community we had created here at iRIP. Feels great to be back! Remember to please share a voice note letting us know YOUR toxic traits :) Here's how: Download the app 'Anchor', search for Its related, I promise and the option to record a 1 min voice note appears at the top of our profile. Hosted by Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri, and Sharon Machira. While you are here, be sure to check out Janet's podcast 'My First Time Stories", where she sheds light on period stigma, one story at a time. https://afripods.africa/episode/episode-8-periods-and-disability/7c1f3413-e7e2-43d6-ab80-402d3b9ea912
Noni recently came across an interesting tweet with a lady asking “Why are men so secure? What’s the secret? Like, do y’all ever need reassurance?” So we invited our Ghanian hommie Bright Gameli, who also dabbles as a Cyber Security expert; and posed the question to him. We’re hoping to do more of these #AskTheMen topics, so feel free to share any questions you’d like to pose to our future male guests, and you can also recommend men who you'd like us to host on the next edition of #AskTheMen. We're wrapping up Season 1 by bringing in our first ever guest, but we'll be back in a few weeks with SEASON TWO, with exciting new content, new segments, and a new ENERGY! Thanks for the incredible support so far :) Hosted by Sharon Machira, Julia Gaitho & Muthoni Muchiri.
If you were raised by African parents and you are over the age of 25, then brace yourself for incessant pressure to get married! Whether the pressure comes from your parents, from society, from your partner or even YOURSELF, you can’t catch a break in these streets! If you are ripe and un-plucked, like the three of us; “Kaa Ngumu Tu”, your time will come :) Hosted by Julia Gaitho, Noni Muchiri & Sharon Machira.
This week we tried something different, we totally 'FREESTYLED' the session!! We decided to speak off-script, off-the-cuff, and candidly speak about anything and everything. The ensuing result; Julia opens up about speaking to a medium, Noni shares a personal dilemma she’s facing with her sister and Sharon gets real about job insecurity. Show Notes; Here are the links Julia mentioned in the podcast! Enjoy! Ainsile Macleod; Living The Life Your Soul Intended- (Super Soul Conversations by Oprah) https://castbox.fm/vb/215933933 Reginald Lewis; the Medium Julia spoke to. https://instagram.com/reginaldlewis?igshid=1m8f5qsrqif9v
I’ll start by saying, this was a really cute session; listen to the end and you’ll understand why. Also, we're already 10 EPISODES IN? Wow, Thank You all so much for the incredible support. Today we're talking about Body Insecurities, something we all battle with, however all that matters ultimately is feeling confident in your own skin. We open up about our insecurities, we also share our ‘coming of age’ stories and celebrate each other’s physical features. Hosted by Muthoni Muchiri, Julia Gaitho & Sharon Machira.
Let's talk about Ex-Etiquette! How should you engage with your 'former' significant other? It's a slippery slope! One minute they are calling you asking for closure, next minute you're entangled in the sheets. The most contentious of it all; is whether you should delete their pictures from social media! Which way do you sway? All this and much more in today's episode. Hosted by Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri & Sharon Machira.
Yeah, we know... People change. But what we're talking about today is people SWITCHING UP! It's the shitty kind of change. The one that creeps up on you and has you feeling hoodwinked...When the 'Good-Guy mask' wears off, When the ghosting begins, When you become that friend who gets talked about in our new segment #AFriendOfMine(whattheysaaay)... Have y'all experienced this? WILD. Hosted by Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri, and Sharon Machira.
In 2020, Privacy is an illusion. Everybody's business is everybody's business...and when you're a media personality your business is LITERALLY someone's BUSINESS. But are we taking this too far? Social Media has turned us all into nosy, prying-ass humans, but maybe its time we channeled our platforms towards more positive outcomes; like when we got Art Cafe to finally #PayCreatives or when someone's tweet got Kenya Airways to lower its flight prices. Social Media is a powerful tool... let's wield it responsibly. OKKUURRR? Hosted by Muthoni Muchiri, Julia Gaitho & Sharon Machira.
One of the most confusing questions of our time; Should you pursue your Passion or Paycheck? Or maybe both? We get into 'unconventional career paths', finding your passion and a loose rant about some of the negative perceptions of 'Creatives'. Karibuni! Hosted by Muthoni Muchiri, Julia Gaitho & Sharon Machira.
Excuse me, I'm asking for a friend...WHY ARE WE DATING THE SAME PEOPLE? "Six degrees of separation" is the idea that all people are six, or fewer, social connections away from each other. In Nairobi, (and other African capitals) you'll be lucky to find even a SINGULAR degree of separation between you and your Ex's last fling. This week we let you know more about our beloved community of "Sister Wives" and "Eskimo Brothers" here in the +254. Wanna know who these are? Give the show a listen! Hosted by Muthoni Muchiri, Julia Gaitho & Sharon Machira.
ENTANGLEMENT- A word that has found new meaning in 2020! After Jada Pinkett Smith dropped the bomb on the world that she was in an ‘entanglement’ with August Alsina, we knew we had to jump on this topic. We talk about monogamy, open relationships, and Julz introduces us to “Polyamory’ relationships. We also ask; Would you be in an open relationship? So send in your listener notes! iRIP is hosted by Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri & Sharon Machira.
In this episode, we talk about ’Situationships’, or better yet ‘Friends With Benefits’. Listen, Nairobi is a micro-community and whether you like it or not, if you are single then you’re probably in one! It can be a messy situation, especially if lines get blurred or hearts get broken… but as we say in the +254, WE MOVE REGARDLESS! We also share our Bad B**ch Anthems; So let us know yours on our social media handles @itsrelatedIpromise! Enjoy! Hosted by Muthoni Muchiri, Sharon Machira & Julia Gaitho.
This week we vulnerably share our initial reaction to this pandemic (still feels weird typing that), and how we settled into living in these 'unprecedented times'. Someone should cancel that phrase ... it's been RINSED! But let's use it for now. Share your listener-notes and let us know how you've been doing. How you've REALLY been doing! iRIP is hosted by Julia Gaitho, Muthoni Muchiri & Sharon Machira.

Wanjiku Kimani
hey guys🤗' Great conversation. if you're kikuyu the podcast " matiri ngemi " is a great resource and it has episodes that shed light on some of these questions like what determines the bride price and all.
Emily Ngamau
A much needed discussion. But, due to how its misconceptionalized esp internationally, i felt that the approach was low effort research-wise. Info though scattered, exist eg 'Matiri Ngemi' podcast mentioned in the past by a podcast member goes in-depth into this topic. Perhaps, Juxtaposition it with a religious leader- Imam/ Indian priest to have a rounded discussion would have been nice. I want to relate, i promise 😃, but like the books topic, this just deserved more..eeh, nini. You get? ♥️

The mean girl episode was so nice. the four of you are such a vibe
