Welcome! and Thank you for listening. How much do we need to worry about body scans and tests? It seems our bodies are on autopilot until our forties. Then there comes the recommended screenings and testing. Our we doomed to our genetics so that we need to start screening to detect the inevitable at the earliest stage possible? What happens when we find an abnormality? Intuitively, it seems we should put things to rest before they become a problem like getting new tires. Some people think once you break the imaginary body seal, the problems all come rushing out. Today I will discuss when to be worried and when to maintain. Overall, it is better to use your body than keep it on the couch and wonder if it will work when you need it. Eat clean plant based food and move outside is a much better choice than looking for imperfections that need to be eliminated. Enjoy the podcast. Thanks for listening. Welcome and Thank you for listening. What I have admired this week: The Power of Positive Thinking in Health. Staying healthy isn’t just about diet or exercise—it’s about mindset, planning, and the little details that add up over time. From Arnold Schwarzenegger’s laser focus on training to Dr. Vlek’s positive outlook, we see that real success comes from clear goals and consistent effort. Have you thought about whether your daily choices—like diet, exercise, or even getting enough sunlight and vitamin D—are really moving you forward? Half-hearted efforts bring half-hearted results, so let’s commit, do the hard things, and enjoy the growth along the way. Have a listen, take a step toward your health today, and don’t forget to smile. As always, thanks for listening. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. What I have admired this week: Doing Hard Things with Grace and Humility We learn and grow more from doing hard things. We all want to be healthy but want and desire alone does not get us that outcome. Would you be willing to get healthier for free if a little effort was required? Have you ever stopped to ask if common practices make any difference at all in our health? Take a multivitamin? Wear sunglasses? Wear sunscreen? Get a yearly physical? Have a listen and then go do something hard and don't forget to smile. Thanks for listening. Welcome! and thank you for listening. This week we look into new studies into glycogen and carbohydrates—how our muscles and liver store it, what happens when it runs low, and why carbohydrates are still the best fuel for endurance athletes. We’ll also touch on research connecting plant-based diets, the microbiome, and lower cancer risk. I hope this episode inspires you to see the science behind everyday choices, to fuel your body with confidence, and to keep pursuing health and growth at every age. Welcome! As I prepared for the Leadville 100, I found myself leaning into the wisdom of my spirit animal, the burro — steady, strong, and cautious when the trail demands it. No runner makes it alone. The coaches and support team are what made this whole thing possible. The race was full of challenges but each obstacle became part of the journey forward. Today’s podcast is about my personal experience at Leadville, and the lessons I learned about mindset and perseverance. I hope you enjoy the podcast. Thanks for listening. Welcome! and thank you for listening. Are parasites at the root cause of cancer? Can you maintain a zero calcium score forever? Are you more fit now than when you trained for the President's physical fitness challenge? Believe it or not, they are all somewhat related. Not one abnormality causes disease. We also cannot sterilize our environment to protect ourselves from pathogens. However, eating a plant based diet and exercising can go along way to help us navigate the microbiota that we traverse. I hope you enjoy the podcast. If you would like to try your hand at the Presidential physical fitness test, see the link below. I'm off to Leadville to run the 100 mile race across the sky. I can't wait to tell you all about my efforts. Until then, eat plant base and get outside at least one time per day. https://gilmore.gvsd.us/documents/Info/Forms/Teacher%20Forms/Presidentialchallengetest.pdf https://doctordulaney.com/membership/join-us/ cookbook: https://a.co/d/6zVUluq Ebook: https://doctordulaney.com/powerful-plates-ebook/ https://mypurewater.com/?sld=jdulaney. discount code: cleanwaterforsophie
Welcome! And thank you for listening. Most of us prefer a steady path—training just enough, eating just enough, and aiming for just enough discomfort to grow without getting hurt. But real growth often lives at the edges—whether it's altitude, mileage, or life itself. That’s where the lessons tend to be clearer, sharper, and sometimes, more painful. Today’s podcast is about testing limits—about racing at 12,000 feet, facing unexpected setbacks, and learning the importance of mobility, preparation, and focusing on what we can control. We’ll explore ATP, AMPK, how troubleshooting in training can prepare us for bigger goals ahead. It’s about choosing to see challenges not as failures, but as valuable data on the journey to something greater. I hope you enjoy the listen. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. We all seem to chase balance. Not too much and not too little. The middle tends to be more populated in the middle of the bell curve or the early adopters curve. The extremes tend to have more risk but they also tend to be the areas of maximal growth potential. The middle grounders are often those that play it safe. When it comes to health, it is the moderation goal. When it comes to exercise, it is the just enough goal. However, most people are worried about "not enough of". Most lifestyle diseases occur with "too much of" The potential for learning is also greatest at both ends of the curve. Today's podcast is the potential benefit of not too much and how one might determine if you suffer from too much or too little potentials. I hope you enjoy the listen. Thanks for listening. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. This week, I’m sharing my journey from a recent training camp in Leadville, Colorado. We talk about the physical and mental challenges of altitude training, how I stayed true to my plant-based diet out on the trail, and what I learned about hydration, heart health, and pushing through discomfort. We dive into the real effects of high altitude on the body and how proper preparation—and mindset—can make all the difference. I hope this episode inspires you to embrace hard things, stay true to your path, and believe in your ability to grow at any age. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. This episodes is about distractions. I have had a few myself resulting in a delay in airing this episode. I am in the process of adding video to the podcast on a bimonthly basis. It has resulted in a few more hurdles. So apologies for the delay. We make thousands of decisions each day from food choices to navigation. These choices are made in the face of many distractions. Just like stress, distractions never go away, we just have the opportunity to react differently. Distractions occur both externally and internally. An example might be someone trying to get you off your nutrition plan by temping you with a tasty desert. Some may also call that guilting. Internal distractions fuel the fire with the stories we tell ourselves to justify behaviors not inline with our goals. That internal dialog can be quite convincing. Have you ever been called a perfectionist? Have you ever felt you had something down to a perfection? Both often result in frustration and disappointment. There is always another level to achieve. The aim is to enjoy or savor the process. I challenge you to raise the bar. Surround yourself with people that challenge you and savor the journey towards your health goals. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Cruel Jewel was not the outcome that I was looking for with regard to finishing. The details are shared in this podcast. The questions came earlier. Am I too old, too slow to run these races? Why am I doing this to myself? At 48 hours post race it sank in. It is more about the start line than the finish line. It is about taking a chance on the unknown. I had the opportunity to confront a struggle that I chose which is different from having a struggle cast upon me. I was able to experience that moment when all that exists is now. I focused on the trail. I watched for snakes, turns, rocks and roots. I climbed for miles and pushed my limits. I practiced going down through roots and rocks. I heard birds, saw beautiful rocks and traversed lush green forests (some secondary to poison oak). I experience the struggles of others and the help and encouragement of strangers and friends. I felt immense peace in the struggles. I am better for having started. My finish line came earlier on Saturday, but I am anxious and grateful for the ability to find another start line and all the unknowns that it will bring. Each time I start, I learn and grow. Rarely is it perfection as defined by the outcome. It is not so different from life. We plan and rehearse, but the reality is that life is often much different. It is not so bad, if we learn to enjoy the journey. Thank you for listening to my journey. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. This is a race recap of the Skunk Ape 50 mile ultra in Ocala, Florida. I was not abducted by the Skunk Ape, but willingly got in a car with Motivation as it sped off the race course. Actually, it was Jim in a Nissan along with three other people pulling out of the race at 30 miles. New friends and many life lessons once again having the opportunity to learn from mistakes. I am disappointed and I disappointed those who support me. Everyday is not a win but I vow to learn the hard lessons at hand. We all struggle and it is better to do it together. That is why we are committed to helping people gain back their health through nutrition and exercise. The struggle is real. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. It can be very difficult to navigate the risk of a medicine or a procedure versus the benefits. It is impossible to apply the statistics of many to one. The study populations may be very different than those we apply the risk/benefit ratios to. Even with the best information, we are forced to make a gamble many times. While that gamble might be unavoidable, we should not be cavalier about the decision or fail to observe and ask questions on what might be the best plan of action. Today's topic is atrial fibrillation and stroke risk. What is the best course of action. What risks can we accept. As health care providers, we must continue to exam treatment options, but more importantly, what can we do to prevent atrial fibrillation and strokes. It is certainly best to avoid atrial fibrillation in the first place. That is certainly the best plan of action. Plant based nutrition is a low risk way to get started. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. If you have lost your motivation for a healthy lifestyle, try looking for it on the couch. Motivation is there for you as long as it does not require stepping into action. All the catchy slogans and memes fade away when it comes time to cook healthy or step out into the cold morning for exercise. If only I had an accountability partner. If only my spouse would help. I am just not motivated. Why? That is the big question. What is your why? It is yours and yours alone. Let us help you take the first step to finding a why that will come with you on the walks and workouts. A why that will escort you to the grocery store and kitchen. Modifying cardiac risks does not mean adding more testing. It is about more action to live a healthy lifestyle. No one is risk free despite the naivety of youth when it comes to dietary choices. Lifestyle diseases live in the shadows and grow overtime. That cheeseburger is a health hazard beginning in the processing through the teflon coated paper it is wrapped in. Don't be fooled by today's affect. That plaque may grow quicker than expected. Enjoy the rant and then get moving. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. Sometimes you can do more than you think you can. You find another gear to go on. Sometimes, you stop and say you did the best that you could. How do you feel about those decisions the next day? Regrets? I've had a few. It is very easy to put our decisions in cruise control and just do what is easy. Avoid the jolts or the risks. Just cruise. However, we don't just cruise, we decline and before you know it, health has left the body. We are now cruising downhill collecting diagnosis and medications. We did the best we could.... maybe. Let me help you find another gear and enjoy acceleration and vitality. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. We all need to ask why and how. Why do this procedure or eat this way, and how will it help me. Will I live longer or better? One might think that early detection will result in better cures or outcomes. However, the treatment may cause significant problems and not affect longevity in a positive way. Watching rarely results in a positive change. Why not just eat plant based and exercise? When I look at a procedure or dietary lifestyle, I look for long term outcomes. How will that affect my longevity? How will it affect my health span. A few years of testimonials is not what I am looking at. What is the long term risk? Today I respond to a internet doctor that suggests we do not need fiber. None. I also will review a recent study looking at who might benefit from a coronary calcium score. Thanks for listening. Welcome! and Thank you for listening. I am joined by Addie Majnaric, RDN today to discuss fiber and it's role in health and the potential to limit the car size of GI doctors. There are many hacks to lifespan on social media. GLP-1 Agonists such as semaglutide are all the rage for curing obesity, addiction and various other ailments. They run about $1600.00 per month. It is too soon to determine if they result in increased longevity but a simple sulfonylurea drug such as Glyburide at $14.00 per month! was studied to see if it could lengthen life in mice and it did! But there is a catch. There is also a catch with metformin another diabetic drug. Most people are very willing to take something that might help if it is cheap or free even if there are potential side effects. One thing that also improves longevity is increased muscle mass. And the best way to get big muscles is to lift heavy things on a regular basis. I will give you why I am even more motivated to lift heavy things and propel my body into the air on this podcast.
