Today we talk about how reality and tv are different. So when I say I don't like Heidi, I don't know Heidi, so it is more accurate to say I don't like the way they are editing Heidi. Using this link helps support the show when you shop at Amazon
I was really pretty sure I wasn’t going to like Jillian Michael’s’ new show Just Jillian. I couldn’t see Jillian do what I call realty show shenanigans. What?! Carrot Top how did you get here? So I watched the show with fingers crossed Full Review
Jillian Michaels is coming to E! in January with the Just Jillian show.
I didnt' knwo what to expect when I started watching this show. Then about the time I figured out what the show was it would throw me a curve ball. The show is Part Shark Tank Part Biggest Loser Part The Apprentice Part American Idol In the end I loved it. Jillian's co-hosts are Obi Obadike, and Rany Hetrick (maker of the TRX Suspension Trainer system). So you have business meets science meets passion. The show starts off hearing the pitch (i.e. Shark Tank) Then they have groups of people test the equipment. Then they have a group of over weight people use their products (kind of a test via the apprentice) to see which one works better. This ends in a weigh-in i.e. the Biggest Loser, and you have three hosts so there is no chance fora tie. I was pleasantly surprised (this is the channel that has lip sync battle), and I'm looking forward to next Tuesday. You can watch the full episode HERE New DVD Jillian Michaels Killer Arms & Back DVD Great reviews on Amazon for the content and one person is upset that the DVD is blurry. (I say get a new player). Check out the DVD here Jillian's DVDs Are Streamable on Amazon For example you can stream a workout from 30 day shred for $1.99
I just found a new show called "Wake Up Call" and it stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and it shows regular people who are at the end of their rope. Jillian takes this poor guy and really pushes him, and then helps him identify his weakness. She makes him quit in 7 minutes. He is fat because he wants to be fat. It provides him with something. What does he have to give up if he loses the weight. He needs to take the responsibility. He needs to think about food, and get some answers. Jillian starts at the 14:00 minute mark.Do You Know How Many Calories Your Burn - Wake Up Call. http://youtu.be/iskLeqKuvzQ Do you know How Many Calories You Burn? Do You Know Your Active Metabolic Rate? The number of calories you burn in a day is known as your active metabolic rate (AMR). Rates vary from person to person, so it is crucial that you take the time to figure yours out — if you don't, you run the risk of consuming too many calories or even consuming too few. STEP 1: Daily Activity Score Aside from determining how many calories you burn in a day, you also need to figure out what your physical activity level is. Determine which one of these descriptions best fits your day-to-day routine, then give yourself the appropriate score. a. Sedentary Physical Activity Level Do you have a desk job or do some other kind of work that keeps you in your chair for most of the day? If the answer is yes, your score is 1.1. b. Light Physical Activity Level Are you on your feet and walking around for at least half the day? Stay-at-home parents, salespeople, and doctors fall into this category. If this is you, your score is 1.2. c. Moderate Physical Activity Level If you're on the move pretty much all day, with a few limited periods of being sedentary, this is the level for you. People in this category include gardeners, carpenters, and mail carriers. If you're in this category, your score is 1.3. d. High Physical Activity Level Does your job require being constantly on the move, and does it entail significant amounts of manual labor? Construction workers, farm workers, and movers are among those who land in this category. If you're in this group, your score is 1.4. You can also use the Calorie Calculator on my Web site to do the math for you. STEP 2: Exercise Expenditure The number of calories you burn during any exercise session depends on a few things, primarily your body weight. Use this chart to help you determine the number of calories you burn from exercise on an average day according to your weight, the type of exercise you do, and its duration. You can also use a heart rate monitor to get an accurate number. Write the number down. STEP 3: Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) Now comes the math. If you don't know your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, it's calculated by a number of factors, including age, weight, height, gender, environmental temperature, and diet and exercise habits. Because of these varying factors, it's hard to pin down your BMR to the precise calorie, but we can get pretty close. Here are some formulas for figuring out your BMR. Plug your numbers into whichever formula applies to you. MALE: 66 + (6.23 x body weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) − (6.8 x age in years) FEMALE: 655 + (4.3 × weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) − (4.7 x age in years) STEP 4: Active Metabolic Rate (AMR) Now you have all three numbers: your daily activity score, exercise expenditure, and BMR. Simply multiply your BMR by your daily activity score, and then add your exercise expenditure. Whatever you get from this final calculation is your magic number. JILLIAN'S TIP OF THE DAY It's Not Just About Weight Loss You're probably starting to wonder, "What's with all the math?" Bear with me on this one. Finding out the number of calories you burn each day isn't just a scientific approach to weight loss, it's also about optimal health. Think about it. If you don't know your magic number, you run the risk of consuming too many or possibly too few calories. Both alternatives can be harmful: Too many calories and you'll store the excess as fat; too few and your body will go into starvation mode, locking in your existing fat. When stress is always present, your body can't get rid of the excess cortisol built up in the blood. That cortisol just hangs around, causing lots of trouble: It turns young fat cells into mature fat cells that stick with you forever, and increases your cravings for high-fat, high-carb foods. Jillian gets deep into the understanding of hormones in her book Master Your Metabolism. You can get that book for free as an audio book (read by Jillian) by going to www.audibletrial.com/dave Full story at
Jillian has a 60 minute non stop workout mix that will get your heart rate up and keep it there (128 bpm). Jillian Michaels Workout Mix, Vol. 4 (60 Min Non-Stop) – iSweat Fitness Music In case you missed them here are links to Volume 1 Volume 2 Volume 3 Losing It Soundtrack Why You Should Get at Least Hours of Sleep Just two nights of bad sleep will cut your satiety hormone leptin by 20 percent and increase your hunger hormone ghrelin by 30 percent. That one-two punch makes you much more likely to snack on high-carb treats, which couldn’t come at a worse time for your insulin levels. In a recent study, University of Chicago researchers found that just three nights of poor sleep made the bodies of young, healthy test subjects 25 percent less sensitive to insulin. This level of insulin resistance is comparable to that brought on by carrying 20 to 30 extra pounds. In order to block fat-storage hormones and allow the full release of fat-burning hormones, you need to get at least seven hours of sleep a night! Today Jillian talks - well kind of - about the caffine incident on the biggest loser. It turns out she CAN'T say anything that can APPEAR to be negative about the Biggest Loser. Instead she mentioned some facts. 1. Caffine supplements have been used in the past. 2. She did not alert the doctors that the contestants were going to be taking eboost. 3. Her team would have lost without the 4 lb disadvantage (but then Ruben wouldn't have been able to return) 4. A company that is part of NBC has given Ruben a recording contract. So with this in mind, NBC can potentially benefit from Ruben staying on the show and building a relationship with the viewers (who could potentially buy his future records). I mean what was up that singing segment with Dolvet? HELLO??? How to Boost Your Energy Jillian DOES have some tips on how to boost your energy. 1. Get More Sleep (DUH) 2. Get more water 3. Eat better. 4. She recommends eboost as an all natural way (instead of five hour energy, red bull, etc) as these are time released amounts of caffine.
Last night (11/12/2013) I was shocked as I was sweating my ass off on the treadmill watching the biggest loser. "Before you all step on the scale, there is something important that needs to be addressed," host Alison Sweeney warned. "Last week, Jillian broke the rules and gave caffeine supplements to each member of her team without doctor's permission." Because of the unauthorized supplements, Jillian's white team received a 4-pound penalty — that's 1 pound per team member. And "for fairness reasons," the previous week's results were declared "invalid." When asked for a response, Jillian said, " "I stand by my opinion, a caffeine supplement is significantly healthier than unlimited amounts of coffee," Jillian said, dodging the real issue — that giving out the supplements without medical approval is against the rules of the competition, which isn't a matter of opinion. "My only regret is that my team, they're the ones suffering the consequences of my professional opinion." Opinion Vs Rules I found it very odd for someone who is so direct and open and honest to have NOTING on her Facebook or twitter about this today. Jillian has never hidden her understanding that caffeine and aspirin make a good combination to enhance weight loss efforts (not replace them). People have accused her of cheating in the past (and she was cleared). I understand why she thinks that the supplements are a good choice for enhancing your workout efforts. For that she gets a pass. What I don't understand is how she felt that giving people supplements without the doctor's knowledge was going to be seen as "OK." I am somewhat taken back. All this time I thought it was eating the right foods, and sweating buckets, and puking your brains out that lead to these people losing weight. While not on the same level, I do feel this is similar to baseball players taking enhancements. Here I am with my eyes burning from sweat (I left my towel in the locker room), and it may be that the people on the television are getting a boost from the bottle. That is disheartening. I will wait to hear her next podcast, and see why she thought it was ok to break the rules.
