Dad Life Q&A Episode

Dad Life Q&A Episode

2021-10-0648:40

This weeks episode sees my first solo podcast where I answer questions sent in to me by listeners from around the world on some key Dad/parenting situations. With questions about preparation for fatherhood, bonding with your baby and dealing with negative comments from other parents, you wont want to miss this one!
In this weeks episode I am joined by friend of the show Alex and we discuss travelling with our babies for the first time.  Both of us have gone overseas on holiday recently for the first time and we get into the nitty gritty of what you need to know about planning for your kids first time in airports, on flights and in new countries. We talk through our experiences and answer some of your questions posted on Instagram. I hope this helps give you the confidence to start thinking about travelling with your little one or help plan your upcoming adventure.
On this weeks episode I am joined by Aidan from@revolution_you to discuss his course and passion for new and future dads on how to be in the best mental health space in order to have a greater impact on your kids lives. We have quite a raw discussion where he talks about his struggles with mental health and fatherhood and how he has turned his life around and ignited his passion for training other dads. Enjoy!
On todays episode I speak to Gordon the creator of Mantenatal courses for fathers to be. We chat about his journey in fatherhood with his four children and how he felt traditional antenatal courses were not focusing enough on the partner in order to prepare them for whats to come. We talk about the benefits of his course and how he can help you "be a the best dad you can be".
On this weeks podcast Alex returns with more advice from his experience as a primary care giver. We discuss my sons current weening program and how to baby proof the house. Alex gives great advice having been through these stages with his twin girls. Enjoy.
This was such an interesting episode to record as there is so much conflicting and saddening information out there on how, if or when a baby should sleep "through the night". It was really good to hear a certified sleep coach talk about how no baby is the same and neither are their sleep patterns. Helens approach is responsive a parenting and showing methods to help encourage the babies natural bodily function (sleep) and not to try and teach a skill because sleeping just isn't one. She dispels some of the myths around sleep training and informs us of the negative side of the industry and how to educate yourself and find the best consultant for your baby. Hope you enjoy.
This week I spoke to one of my best and oldest friends who I grew up with in South Africa. Ian chats about his experience in the build up to the birth, some of the differences between the UK & SA in their approach to birth and how he feels a hard South African lock down and mask wearing may effect our children.
I had the great pleasure of discussing Hypnobirthing with our Jemma of @stilletostostrollers AKA our Doula and Hypnobirthing Coach who was essential in our birth story. She breaks down the truths from the myths and tells us about how her experiences using Hypnobirthing got her to leave her executive job in the city and start her new career. We also have a lovely walk down memory lane and chat about how she helped us have the most amazing experience for our sons birth 6 months ago. I cannot speak higher of this person and I hope you all enjoy listening and learning a little.
This week we have another Dad's Diary with one of my favourite people George. He has a fantastic philosophy on parenting and is one of the most positive people I have ever met. George is a father of three and shares a little bit about his story with us including his pre birth stresses regarding the possibility of his children being born with cleft lip & pallet and some great advice from his experiences.
On this episode I chat with Nick Jolly @nickthejollypt who is a personal trainer who specialises in body weight training and working with people with ADHD to harness their inner energy during training. He sets out a plan for me to go from Dad Bod to Greek God over the coming weeks. I will post the exercises and my progress on instagram so you can train and follow along @dadslearningonthejob.
This week I have had the pleasure of recording another Dad's Diary speaking with a close former colleague who shared part of the lock down baby journey with me as our partners were pregnant at the same time. He has a fascinating and heartwarming story of their journey and the birth of his daughter Orlaith.
A honest and raw discussion with Matt of @mattnicholsmentalhealth on his struggles overcoming his mental health issues which lead to him making attempts on his own life. Matt is a mental health advocate who uses social media as a platform for self care and promoting men talking about their problems.
A great chat with father and primary care giver of twins, Alex (@parents_of_twin_girls) who shares his experiences managing the care of twins, breaking the stigma of male care givers and tells us about their incredible journey from complications with conception, finding out they were having twins, the birth and beyond.
This week we have the amazing Zoe @thesurreydoula (instagram) on our show. She talks us through the role of a Doula, how hypnobirthing courses can help both moms and dads to be and advice on the role and care pre and post natal for dads.
Join us for another Dad's Diary; New dad Jonathan talks about his experiences preparing for his daughter Maddy's birth and how he has coped with the changes in their lives. This has been one of my most enjoyable interviews and I really think he gives a great view on fatherhood. Enjoy.
On this weeks episode we chat to Dr Keric Allenbrook - Chiropractor, health & wellness coach and host of The Health Locker Podcast. Listen for some great advice on dealing with the back pain and strains common with new parents having to lift and carry new babies as well as how to improve our general health and wellness. He alsoshares his advice on coping with early stages of parenting, building core strength in those precious spare moments, how to get the best out of your “new” sleep routine and much more.
Join us on the first official Dad's Diary; New dad Roland talks about his experiences in the build up to his sons birth, how he's coped with the stresses of fatherhood and what he's learnt on the job.
In this episode we discuss how to cope with the stress of being a new dad and the importance of self care with Dr Rachael Ryan, Clinical Psychologist working with the NHS.
