Councilwoman Gilyard's vision is to set a standard of working together respecting our community’s diverse voices. Our city should be RESPONSIVE to citizens, their concerns and their ideas. I will create PARTNERSHIPS with our neighboring cities, county, businesses and other stakeholders that share our vision for a world class city and region.
Naeema Gilyard joined the People’s Campaign to help organize unincorporated South Fulton and provide facts to citizens so they could make an informed decision to vote for cityhood. As Co-Chair of the HOA Coalition, we contacted more than 300 subdivisions. There were informational town hall and other meetings. It was a grassroots effort. Our goal was to be a city. Those of us running for seats in the new city have a huge responsibility to those who voted yes, no and who did not vote. Our responsibility is to understand what it will take to transition from one entity (the County) to another entity (a new City).

Growing up Larry was always surrounded by different forms of music. He was influenced by Leslie Ratliff a former church member to play the piano for the choir where he attended. His first encounter with any musical instrument came at the rightful age of 4 years old, that’s when he started to experiment with drums. At 12 years old Larry started playing the piano without any weekly lessons for both instruments.
Numerous local known pianists have experienced picking up this skillful art from Larry over the past two decades. He credits Memphians Derrick Jackson a well-known pianist and Edward Cleveland a known percussionist as his mentors. Larry was locally known to the city of Memphis as a PK KID. Larry’s parents who pastored for more than 30 years in the Memphis area have been a great supporter of his music ministry. In January of 2013, he was encouraged by his mother Pastor Cassandra Burse and Gospel Legend Dr. Bobby Jones to pursue his dreams of many years in the music industry. These inspirational mentors spoke a profound word to Larry and it immediately became music to his ears. His self-entitled project “Walking in my own shoes” instantly became alive. Larry strongly believes that a man’s gift will make room for him, and usher him before great men. Proverbs 18:16
