BanklessDAO is undergoing both a name change and a redefinition of purpose. Helping frame and steward this set of challenges is a six member Transition Council formed earlier this year: Hiro Kennelly, Trewkat, WinVerse, Coffee Crusher, Rowan and ZFi.This episode seeks to encapsulate both the origin story of our organization and get you up to speed on how the organization is changing. To help me do that, I sat down with Rowan and ZFI, two of the six members of the transition council.ZFi has been in the crypto space since 2013 and has been active in DAOs since November 2021, when he joined Bankless DAO. His innovative problem solving and leadership in Web3 is helping shape the future of decentralized governance and strategies.Rowan first got into crypto in 2017 and is a BanklessDAO OG, though the first few months he was mostly lurking. He found his footing in DAO Operations with Sobol and mapping bDAO, after which he held a leadership role as the Coordinator of the Operations Department for several seasons. He’s passionate about decentralized governance and individual sovereignty.Guest SocialsZFi: https://x.com/0xZFiRowan: https://x.com/rowan_n0Links to forum discussions and timelineRedefining Our Identity (Discourse Forum)https://forum.bankless.community/t/redefining-our-identity/10708Redefining Our Purpose (Discourse forum)https://forum.bankless.community/t/redefining-our-purpose/10694/12ReOrg Timeline (Notion, 2024 Transition Council)https://www.notion.so/bankless/35b6ad78361045c4becdc8b8c6bea2f3?v=b178b3e3ec5f400993a50f897dabc69b&pvs=4Genesis of BanklessDAO (Medium, May 4, 2021)https://medium.com/bankless-dao/announcing-bankless-dao-133220f5efd8Timestamps01:12 Introductions03:20 Origins of BanklessDAO05:45 A Grant Proposal and a Branding Issue08:15 Defining DAOs16:45 Alignment19:40 Snapshot Voting Changes and Rationale24:45 tlBANK as a signal of alignment35:30 Transition Council Activities and the ReOrg Timeline46:50 Forum Poll Results and Forward-looking Plans55:35 Musings on the Human Experiment57:00 Closing Thoughts--Today's Host - Drostehttps://x.com/EffectDrost--Making Bank is a production of the Podcast Hatchery project at BanklessDAO. Today’s episode marks our 50th show since we relaunched it in February of 2022. Over these nearly two years, we’ve stayed true to our mission: offering a window into the people of BanklessDAO and the projects they are working on that drive their passion in exploring web3 technology and culture.Though a large percentage of our contributors are U.S.-based, we are a global organization working toward decentralization and exploring the potential of these tools.Today you’ll hear a bit of reflection on how BanklessDAO came to be, and the personal story of one of it’s earliest members.Guest SocialsX: https://twitter.com/McDermittMarvelTimestamps00:01:30 Welcome Bill Ford00:05:00 BanklessDAO vs BanklessHQ/LLC confusion on X00:09:00 Gratitude and the concept of "Itadakimasu" (いただきます)00:12:30 Two lost years00:15:00 How Bill got his moniker, and a lake in Idaho00:18:00 Formative years00:24:00 A life-defining moment00:26:00 Being a Marine in the 1960s00:30:00 On complex problems00:34:30 On kindness00:36:00 segue to bDAO contributors - Ornella, Above Average Joe00:39:30 Reflecting on the road traveled vs the road ahead00:42:00 I've got a song trapped in my head00:46:00 How Bill fell down the crypto rabbit hole00:53:30 Back to bDAO contributor discussion00:54:00 Women in the DAO - RedCrystalDragon, Steff, Trewkat00:58:00 Nonsense Twice00:59:27 Frogmonkee01:00:00 Pope vs POAP01:02:00 Ms. Purrple, Samantha, Jenetics01:03:00 Perchy and the Chippi project01:05:00 The Rug, Allyn Bryce01:07:00 Ed On, d0wnlore01:09:00 Eagle, Rotorless, Katriana01:10:00 John & Erin – List of DAOs and ELI501:11:00 iSpeaknerd, NFThinker, Links, Senad01:16:00 experience on Ombuds. Today’s guest is IcedCool. Iced is a Bankless DAO OG, and went full-time DAO in 2021. He brings a broad understanding of information technology and software development, and has managed a number of IT, DevOps and software development projects throughout his career. Prior to getting into web3 and DAOs, he was responsible for the IT department of a large east coast regional hospital.
In this episode, he spends much of his time thinking about tokenomics at BanklessDAO, and that is largely what we’ll be talking about today.

Today’s guests are Samantha Marin and Brandon Nolte of Quorum. Sam and Brandon met over a year ago through BanklessDAO, and quickly developed a rapport. They have since joined forces to form Quorum.
Sam is part of the communications and growth team for Aragon, a framework for on-chain DAOs. She started her DAO journey in BanklessDAO as the talent scout for the Writers Guild. She started the Quorum newsletter in March and recently expanded it into a “metalabel” to include a podcast as well.
Brandon is a serial entrepreneur and hosts the Quorum podcast, formerly Bounty Hunter. Quorum is a weekly show about what it’s like to work in Web3 and DAOs, interviewing community builders, DAO contributors, and the best innovators in Web3.

Today’s guest goes by KittySlasher online. He’s a member of Bankless DAO, and a core contributor at Opolis. Kitty has spent the past 15 years climbing the corporate ladder in telecommunications, and this led him to see the flaws in the current work model and on to a search for something different.
That’s when he found web3 and Opolis where he now spends his days trying to help others escape the monetarily extractive corporate business model we know today.

Among other things, he’s involved with the bDAO Global Events team, where we partnered with 8 events in Season 5 alone.
