The Poma Street Murder | Ep.2: "Follow the Keys" (True Crime Mysteries)

In episode 2, we meet Judith (Giuseppa De Luca), and her husband Larry (Pietrino Vanacore), the custodian for the Poma street complex, who is believed by many, including multiple prosecutors, to have aided the killer by altering the crime scene after the fact.  We'll also look at the odd behavior of the Youth Hostel employees, went to incredible lengths to try and persuade the authorities they'd never met - and some, that they'd never even heard of - the victim.  Could it be somehow connected to the strange phone call an employee named Louise (Luigina Berrettini) claims to have gotten from Simonetta the evening she died? Or to a strange note found crumpled up in the victim's office?  We'll meet Landon (Luciano Menicocci), one of the few employees who couldn't deny knowing Simonetta, and hear the first of his shocking admissions.    Join me as we delve deeper into Italy's most notorious cold case. The Poma Street murder [ Episode 1 - "X Marks the Spot" ]

One of Italy's most famous cold cases started on August 7th, 1990, in a ritzy neighborhood not too far from St. Peter's square in Rome. Within the confines of a luxury apartment complex with a somewhat maze-like, sinister nature, a young girl by the name of Simonetta Cesaroni, has met her death. Her body shows stab wounds to the eyes, neck, chest, abdomen and groin. As she lies seminude and lifeless in the office where she worked 2 afternoons a week, her sister "Paula" (Paola Cesaroni) and Paula's boyfriend "Tony" (Antonello Barone) ride around looking for her, until they remember her boss, "Sal" (Salvatore Volponi) lives nearby. They decide to go ask him if he has any news of Simonetta, thereby triggering the grotesque sequence of events that still has many believing that the perpetrator is to be found among the city's finest dwellers, surrounded by the majestic architecture that still stands today at number 2, Poma street.  Make sure to stay until the end of the series, as I will discuss two very important updates that the Prosecutor's Office announced this year (2022), the first concerning new evidence which may finally lead to the killer, and the second regarding the very disturbing reasons why the investigation was conducted so poorly, a question the Anti-Mafia Special Commission has recently tried to answer.    Music by Tushar Sharma  -  https://adshrink.it/P9ZK03    Image by Henryk Niestrój from Pixabay

Dark History: Memoirs of Mastro Titta, executioner of Rome [Part 1] *** MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY ***

*MATURE AUDIENCES ONLY* Between March 22, 1796 and August 17, 1864, Giovanni Battista Bugatti - known as Mastro Titta - executed 514 people. Donning his trademark crimson robe, he was said to be equally skilled with each of the punishments he inflicted for 68 years, whether it be quartering, the mallet, the gallows or the guillotine. Both Charles Dickens and Lord Byron witnessed one of his executions.  In this episode, I will take you through the first part of the gruesome memoir said to have compiled from the ledger in which he meticulously took down the names, crimes and manner of death of all those unlucky enough to cross paths with him.  Disclaimer: The text was edited for entertainment purposes.  This is not an episode for the faint of heart - Listener discretion is advised! When cops turn rogue: the reign of terror of the Fiat Uno gang (True Crime)

Between 1987 and 1994, the Italian city of Bologna and its environs were the hunting grounds for a gang of psychopaths, of which all except one were active members of Italy's police force, who maimed and murdered innocent people ruthlessly, oftentimes for no reason. Besides pistols and explosives, the ring - which comprised 3 brothers - carried out horrific crimes with powerful assault rifles, and seemed to so enjoy the mayhem they left in their wake, that on occasion they'd leave the scene of a robbery without the spoils. They robbed supermarkets, armored trucks, gas stations, toll booths, post offices, even banks. By the end of their reign of terror, over 20 people had lost their lives, including six law enforcement officers. 100+ more had been wounded. The destruction the so-called White Fiat Uno gang brought was so extraordinary, and their wanton disregard for human life so boundless, that to this day some still believe them to have been part of a subversive underground design. Join me in today's episode for one helluva a ride... Cogne: the chalet of horrors (True Crime)

SOUND WARNING: If you're using headphones, turn the volume as low as you can comfortably go, because there are some loud sounds. Cogne, a picturesque town amidst the Alps in northwest Italy. The Lorenzi family chalet is a perfect home in a perfect paradise. An accomplished husband, a devoted wife and mother, two happy, healthy little boys. But, one January morning, it turned into everyone's worst nightmare. Samuele Lorenzi, their 3-year-old boy, was found beaten within an inch of his life in his mother's bed. His mother, Anna Maria Franzoni, graceful wife, and perfect homemaker was tried and sentenced for the brutal murder - could a mother who'd never shown any sign of violence savagely massacre her son - with what the investigators surmised to be possibly a pick-axe - and have no memory of it?  In this episode we look at the story of little Samuele, and the trial of his outwardly doting mother, who the courts accused of bludgeoning him with an unknown household object. The Cogne case is remembered 20 years later for its tragic senselessness, as well as for being one of the first Italian investigations to rely on criminal profiling and blood spatter analysis.  Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay

Have you ever heard of the Devil's Monk?

Near Sicignano degli Alburni, a charming Italian town, is a little-known abandoned monastery they call the 'Monastery of the Devil's Monks', because of what happened there in the 1700s, with the arrival of a man who is said to have sold his soul to the devil and, according to the locals, still haunts the grounds to this day.  Have YOU ever heard of the Devil's Monk? 'The dwarf of Termini station': love, lust and taxidermy

Domenico Semeraro - aka 'Mimmo' - was only 4'3" tall (130cm), but he had certainly never let that stop him. By day Mimmo was a successful man, by night he had a habit of wandering around Termini Station looking for vulnerable young men, whom he would then take back to his nearby taxidermy lab, where he would provide them with drugs and expensive gifts in exchange for their bodies. In Rome's sex circles he was known as the 'dwarf of Termini station', and at the age of 44 it would all come crashing down on him in a grisly ménage à trois of his own making, a love triangle of transgression, blackmail and death. Vatican Secrets: the tomb of Enrico De Pedis

Was this, as the phone call suggested, connected to the favors De Pedis had done for the Vatican, and his involvement in the disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi (The "Vatican girl")? Join me today to learn more about the life and death of Enrico "Renatino" De Pedis, and how much truth there is behind his alleged connection to some of the darkest secrets of the Holy See.
