Hi everyone. I am very excited for you all to meet Charlie Graffius. Charlie and I met when we were both in undergrad via a class at Colby-Sawyer College. We reconnected when I discovered his podcast, the Movement Fluidity Podcast. The Movement Fluidity Podcast aims to share stories and research related to movement disorders, with a focus on cerebral palsy. The podcast serves as a platform to inspire and educate others. In our conversation, Charlie shares about his experiences with cerebral palsy. He also shares his motivations to positively impact others through work and research in kinesiology, exercise science, and movement disorders. He is currently pursuing graduate studies in Motor Learning and Motor Control at Teachers College, Columbia University. Takeaways- Cerebral palsy is a neurological condition that affects movement and posture. It is caused by a lack of oxygen to the developing brain, resulting in impaired motor function.- At the Center for Cerebral Palsy Research, Charlie assisted individuals in improving strength, posture, and motor skills through research and intervention, along with hand-arm bimanual training (HABIT).- Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds muscles, organs, and other structures in the body. I find that as an adult, I have desperately tried to grasp for security in a very rigid way - searching for a sense of permanency in my surroundings. I have found myself prone to prioritizing a seemingly perfect, and very aesthetic home. Yet, I have found that during the period of my 20’s, it is less productive to place importance on ensuring permanency, when things are continually changing. What I can work on is my mindset, my internal sense of security within myself. I would like to focus on how my thoughts are building my life internally. I hope to lessen, externally, making my life fit a box in which I have prescribed. Most coveted in my book right now, is a sense of self that is centered, and at peace - especially when everything such as my surroundings will always change.
In this episode, I talk about the process of losing my mom, commonly referred to as Margaret, or 'Peggy'. She is remembered fondly.
I invite you to join me in reflecting on the previous week and the week ahead. Regarding the previous week: • How did you feel about this previous week? • What can you celebrate? • What boundaries could you revisit/edit? • What can you leave behind and move on from?Regarding the upcoming week: • What are your intentions for this week? • What would you like this upcoming week to feel like? • What is the energy we want to feel at the end of the week? • Do you have an affirmation or mantra you would like to focus on?Morning with Madi:YouTube: @MorningwithMadiIG: @morningwithmadi
