As we begin our 2nd season of the NLP Matters Podcast, we move on to explore what is perhaps the most fundamental component of NLP, the NLP presuppositions. These presuppositions provide us with the compass that guides us as we use and apply powerful NLP techniques to take control of our own lives and really make a difference. There are a number of presuppositions of NLP., in fact, 14 in all. Despite the fact that they have varying origins, they form the basis upon which the work of NLP is built, and together, they provide the framework that ensures the techniques and strategies of NLP are developed and implemented ethically and responsibly.  In this episode, we’ll briefly introduce each of the presuppositions, and over the next few episodes, we will explore how they can apply in our own lives in more depth. We have spent much of the past few months discussing and applying a number of NLP strategies to the setting of our goals using NLP techniques like the Be-Do-Have model, 6 Core Needs, the 5 Principles of Success, the Keys to An Achievable Outcome, and the Well-Formedness Conditions, with each strategy adding a new layer to the journey of Building our Successful Life and ensuring our goals are robust and resilient. In this episode, we’ll draw all these threads together so we can see how unstoppable we can be when we bring them all into play. Listen to the podcast to learn more. Over the past few weeks, we have seen how when taken individually, the Well-Formedness Conditions give us a great understanding on the specifics of our outcome and what needs to be done to achieve it. This also means we get even more clarity on who we need to be to deliver on the actions that will ultimately get us our results.  In this episode, we will get to see just how powerful this strategy becomes when we combine all the Well-Formedness Conditions together and apply them all to our outcome. The NLP technique of Well Formedness Conditions, which adds the final layer to the journey of Building our Successful Life and ensuring our goals are robust and resilient. So far, we have looked closely at the first five of the Well Formedness Conditions. In this episode, we’ll explore the Well-Formedness Condition of expanding on the sensory-specific details that describe the first step on the way to achieving our goal. And once we’ve done that, we’ll look at the final step of the Well-Formedness Conditions, which is to confirm that our goal increases choices. Listen to the podcast to learn more. When we have completed the first of the 5 Success Principles, Knowing our Outcome, we can use the Keys to an Achievable Outcome, and then,  the Well-Formedness Conditions to get an even greater understanding on the specifics or our outcome and the targeted actions required to achieve this outcome. This also means we get even more clarity on who we need to be to deliver on these actions that will get our results. Having looked at steps 1, 2, and 3, in the Well-Formedness Conditions the next step we want to explore is again confirming that our goal is ecological. Because we have worked even more on our goal and we have even more sensory specific detail, our goal has developed, and that means we may find that there are some new misalignments between our conscious and unconscious minds or other potential impacts that arise from our goal that we didn’t notice before. It is also important that we have more than one way to achieve it. By revisiting an ecology check and making sure that we have more than one way to achieve our goal, at this point we can reconfirm that our goal is aligned and that we are ready to go! The NLP technique of Well-Formedness Conditions adds the final layer to the journey of Building Our Successful Life by ensuring that our goals are robust and ready to go.  When we apply the Well-Formedness Conditions to our goal, we are doing our final check to confirm both the absolute alignment and resilience of our goals. We have so far looked closely at the first two steps - stating our goal in the positive and having the goal self-initiated and self-maintained. The next step is all about providing the detail around our goal. Why do we want to specify our outcome in detail? Listen to the podcast to learn more. In the previous episode, we introduced the NLP technique called the Well-Formedness Conditions, which adds the final layer to the journey of Building our Successful Life by ensuring our goals are robust and ready to go. The theme of this first NLP Matters podcast series is to support us in working our way through the process of really building the life we want to have, our own version of a successful life. As we work through this process layer by layer, we gain even more clarity on what it is we actually do want to have! When we have used the first of the Five Success Principles, Knowing our Outcome, as well as the Keys to an Achievable Outcome, we get an even greater understanding on what needs to be done – the targeted actions, to achieve the outcome, and who we need to be to deliver on these actions to get the results. The next step is making sure that we believe both consciously and unconsciously that our desired outcome is totally achievable because we do not want to invest all this effort and time only to set ourselves up to fail, do we?  This is where the Well Formedness Conditions adds so much more value. When we use it together with the Five Success Principles and Keys to an Achievable Outcome, this final check confirms that all the work we have already done planning and preparing for our success is not only possible, but even more than that it is also totally do-able. In this episode, we take a deeper dive into the first two of these conditions – stating our goal in the positive, and having the goal self-initiated and self-maintained. In this episode, we’ll start to explore yet another really useful NLP tool that adds the final layer to our theme of Building our Successful Life and ensuring our goals are ready to go. This tool is called the Well Formedness Conditions. When we apply these conditions to our goal we get to do our final check to confirm both the absolute alignment and resilience of our goals. The Keys to an Achievable Outcome guide us as we develop a rich and deep understanding of the first of the Five Success Principles of Success - Knowing Your Outcome.  The Keys to an Achievable Outcome dive deeply into our desired outcome so we can have great clarity and do a robust check – is this goal really what we want? It provides a recipe we can follow that develops a very clear definition of the outcome we are going for and then we get to confirm that the goal is formulated thoroughly looking at it from all different angles or perspectives. In this episode, we’ll draw together all the 9 Keys as we wrap it up and really get to see the power we have when using this NLP tool.  Listen to the podcast to learn more. Since episode 16, we have been exploring the NLP technique called the Keys to an Achievable Outcome. I trust that throughout these episodes, you are getting a really clear insight into the power of these keys when it comes to designing and delivering on your goals. Having covered keys one to eight, let’s get to the ninth and final key, which is, “Is this goal ecological?”  This is a powerful reflective question for us to ask ourselves, because too often we may choose goals and invest great effort, time, and perhaps even money into them only to discover that in fact the goal does not align with who we are, because even when it is self initiated and self maintained it still may not really be our own goal. Perhaps, we chose it because in our culture it is seen as a good thing, or maybe we chose it to please or satisfy someone or something else. Or perhaps we chose a goal and then we discover that the goal has consequences we did not consider and maybe those consequences are not acceptable to us.  The main role of the ninth key in keys to an achievable outcome is to have us reflect on these aspects of our goal.  So, how can we tell if our goal is ecological? The Keys to an Achievable Outcome is a powerful set of keys that ensures that our desired outcomes or goals are structured in a way that maximises our potential for success.  Last week, we learned the importance of having a goal that is congruently desirable and making sure that our goal is self-initiated and maintained.  In this episode, we’ll explore the 7th and 8th keys - ensuring that our goal is appropriately contextualised and that we have (or at least know) the resources we need in order to achieve our goal. One of the tools that NLP gives us to get a real focus and clarity around our goals is The Keys to an Achievable Outcome, which really solidifies the first of the Five Principles of Success - Knowing Your Outcome.  The Keys to an Achievable Outcome can be seen as an expression of the science of setting goals. Having covered the steps one to four of these keys, let’s now move on the next two - checking that our goal is congruently desirable and ensuring that it is self-initiated and maintained. These two steps answer the question, “What will this outcome get for us or allow us to do?” In other words, “Why do we want this goal in the first place?” Listen to the podcast to learn more. In our last episode, we learned the first two Keys to an Achievable Outcome - stating our goal in the positive and specifying the present situation. But how do you actually know when you’ve actually achieved your goal?  You may find it hard to believe, but quite often, people don’t recognize when they have achieved their goal. We may have something we are aiming to do or something you want to achieve, and we become so busy doing it that we get so caught up in the process. And, when we have actually achieved the goal, it is then, what’s next?  Our attention and focus have shifted beyond the goal, which means that we don’t get to celebrate our success. In fact, sometimes, we get trapped in a cycle of feeling as though we will never achieve anything, and you wouldn’t want that, would you?  In this episode, we’re going to explore in detail the third and fourth keys to an achievable outcome - specifying the outcome in detail and specifying your evidence procedure, which are both really important to ensure that we get clarity around our goals and around our measurement of success.  Listen to the podcast to learn more. Imagine that you have been working your way through the process of really building the life you want to have. And as you work through this process you gain even more clarity, on what it is you actually do want to have! You have used the first of the 5 Success Principles, Knowing your Outcome and you are also getting a greater understanding of what needs to be done – the targeted actions, to achieve the outcome - and who you need to be to deliver on these actions to get the results.  Now is the time when you want to make sure that your desired outcome is actually achievable because you do not want to invest all this effort only to set ourselves up to fail, do you?  This is where the Keys to an Achievable Outcome adds loads of value. Using these keys we get to really dig very deeply into the first of the principles of success, Knowing Your Outcome.  In this episode, we’ll delve deeper into the first two keys to an achievable outcome - stating the goal in the positive and specifying the present situation.  Listen to the podcast to learn more. In the last couple of weeks, we examined the Five Principles of Success from NLP - Knowing Our Outcome, Taking Action, Sensory Acuity, Behavioral Flexibility, and the Physiology and Psychology of Excellence.  In this episode, we’ll continue to build on the theme of NLP tools that you can use to build your successful life, and as we move on from the Five Success Principles the focus goes back to defining our outcome. In this episode, we are going to begin to look at one of these NLP tools called The Keys to an Achievable Outcome. This model really digs very deep into the first of the principles of success, Knowing Your Outcome, and this is because it is just so critical to our success that our dream, outcome or goal is clearly defined and structured specifically to maximise your success. Over the past six episodes we have been exploring the NLP 5 Principles for Success. We said at the start of our journey through the Five Principles of Success that with NLP we could study and decode the patterns of thinking, strategies and techniques that are shared by successful people. Using NLP modelling strategies, we discover that it is possible to follow them on our very own path to success. They have made the journey so much easier for us, leading the way and, because we can learn from the best and replicate what successful people have done we absolutely can achieve success for ourselves.  Following the 5 success principles gives us a structure that we can use over and over and over again, with the aim to have this structure unconsciously ingrained in everything we do, because every time we do use this structure, we build our neural “muscles”, and so, we begin to master the art and science of setting and achieving our goals. In this episode, we’re going to put the five principles together and get to see just how powerful a package this is in achieving our dreams and goals. Listen to the podcast to learn more. We have noted that as successful people we need to invest time, effort, and imagination into some key areas to build and achieve our success.  Firstly, we ensure we meet number one of the 5 Success Principles – Knowing our outcome. This means we are clear about where we are going, our goal. Secondly, we know that no goal can be reached without targeted action. We are not only taking action, but we are taking specific actions that will bring us closer to our goal. Thirdly, we use our sensory acuity so we can check to see if we are on course, and fourthly if we are not totally on track we have the behavioural flexibility to change what we are doing which means we get back on track. Together, these strategies combine to form a powerful framework for success. However, there is one remaining piece!  The fifth and final of the success principles that highlights how successful people have a way of being that supports their success. In NLP, we call this the Physiology and Psychology of Excellence. This principle brings home the importance of not just what you do to achieve success, but also how fundamentally it is who we are being, that is the difference that makes the difference. In the past couple of weeks, we have noted that successful people invest time, effort and imagination to ensure they meet the first of the 5 Success Principles – Knowing your outcome! They know that secondly no goal can be reached without targeted action, and thirdly they develop the sensory acuity to be able to check to see if they are on course. The question then becomes, what happens if I discover that my course needs correcting? We need to be able to adapt to the new information that tells us our course needs correcting without becoming distracted and blinded by negative thoughts and emotions like blame and despair. If we do, we are likely never to reach our goal, because we are no longer focused on things that can bring us closer to them. This brings us to the next success principle, Behavioural Flexibility.  Listen to the podcast to learn more. Last week, we focused on the first of the Five Principles for Success, which is Knowing Your Outcome. This is the place we all need to start from on our way to achieving success. Now, that we are very clear on our outcome or goal, it’s time to take massive action! And, when we are taking action it is vital that we continue to use our sensory acuity.  These are the next two principles of the Five Principles for Success that we are going to explore in this episode and how we can apply them using NLP techniques to accurately model success and create results in our own lives.
