I’m Katie + I’m a certified life coach, and I’ve also been a management consultant at McKinsey and a product manager at a tech start-up. In other words: I know what it’s like to have a life that looks pretty good on paper, but doesn’t feel as good as I want it to.

I help my professional clients develop lives that are more meaningful, happy, and successful — and I want to share the same practical insights with you.

In this episode, I talk about journaling for clarity - or journaling to figure out what you want or what you think about something.   I discuss the common mistake I see people make + share detailed instructions for this kind of journaling, including 16 prompts you can use. Or you can find them here: https://www.katieseaver.com/best-life-coach-podcast/62   I also share my own history with journaling for clarity + why I find it so valuable.   If you think you don’t like journaling, I hope the specifics of this episode help you try it again. Because while journaling isn’t for everyone, you might actually end up loving it.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I talk to a lot of people who are in the process of figuring out what they want. There's often one thing that I’m listening for — or feeling for — in those conversations, and that is: “because I want to.”   So in this episode, I clarify what I mean by this and share why this is helpful + address some of the objections I suspect you’re probably already having.   I share a client story and a personal story + end with a mini FAQ where I answer questions like, “what if I can’t find my ‘because I want to?’”   I hope this episode helps you find clarity if you don't yet have it (or gives you the courage to find your own "because I want to".)   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
Today I am answering a question from a newsletter subscriber.   Alexine asks: How do you check in with yourself before making a major move to check it's not "grass is greener" syndrome?   She shares: “We are looking to do a big move to the UK from Canada, and we do genuinely believe it's the right situation for us and our family. However, how do we check in with ourselves first and make sure we're not "chasing happiness.””   The heart of this question - “how do I make sure this is not just a case of thinking the grass is greener on the other side?” is something that most people contemplating a big life change (or a small one!) worry about.   I share four categories that tend to make my clients afraid of trusting what they want, and then leads them to question if they are experiencing ”grass is greener” syndrome.   Hopefully this provides Alexine, and anyone making life decisions, some helpful ways to consider the options for the best outcome.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
In this episode, I share with you my new favorite practice — that's not journaling.   I discovered it about a month ago when I was feeling pretty discouraged. I was frustrated with myself and I wanted to find a way to pull myself out of that moment. Typically, I'd do some journaling in that kind of moment — but it wasn't possible, and I also didn't *want* to. I know that for many of my clients, journaling just isn't their favorite — or maybe they do love it, but don't always have the time, or are looking for some new ideas.   I share what this practice is, the different ways I use it, what it helps me with — plus a few reasons why I've been recommending it to some of my clients lately.   I hope you get a chance to try this practice, and that it helps you as much as it has helped me.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I suspect that many of you reading this have emergency funds, IRA's, and ETF portfolios.   I also suspect that you may be living "month-to-month," when it comes to your energy. You never seem to have much reserves, and you're always just a smidge stressed, tired, or frantic.   Recently, I said something to a client that was such a good distillation of my thoughts about energy + how to stop being in that constant, low-level energy debt. It seemed to really resonate with her, so I thought I'd share it with you, too.   This episode might help you do an audit of how you spend your energy, so you can balance your “budget” more effectively.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
Is there some area of your life that doesn't come "naturally"? Maybe it's some element of your work, parenthood, friendship, marriage, or even a hobby.   If so, this episode is for you.   We want to be skillful at something, and we want it to come easily. And when it’s hard, when we work for it, we can feel frustrated and insecure.   Today I share two client stories, along with an insight I love (that's been bouncing around inside of me lately) on this topic.   I hope this episode helps you realize that if there’s something you’re struggling with, something that doesn’t come naturally, maybe that doesn’t have to be a weakness.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I was working with two clients (who are both leaders and managers) in the past week, and I was giving them both very similar coaching.   Whenever that happens, I think: I should make a podcast about this.   (Think this episode doesn't apply to you because you aren't an official "manager"? I define leadership quite broadly, so there's a good chance the ideas I share will be helpful to you, too.)   Today I'm sharing the same advice I shared with them. I'm talking about how to reduce stress + hours when you’re a leader — while keeping work quality the same, or frequently improving it.   My suggestion? Take on developmental coaching of your team.   Today I define "developmental coaching," and then make my case for how it frees up time, reduces stress, and increases quality of output. I also give some common pieces of guidance if you would like to start doing developmental coaching.   Developmental coaching doesn't just help you as a leader, it also may change your team members in a meaningful way. I hope you’ll take this opportunity to act on your behalf, and on theirs.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
55: Edward’s Story

55: Edward’s Story

2025-04-3058:12

In this episode, I’m sharing an interview with my client Edward. Edward is a husband, a father of four, an avid traveler, and a business owner and consultant.   In our interview, he shares how he felt like his life was pretty good, but also felt off in ways he couldn't put his finger on.   He talks about what led him to work with me, and how in our work together he has deepened his relationships with himself, his wife, and his kids. He also shares how he intentionally strengthened and generated more friendships and shifted his relationship to work.   I’m sure his story and his insights will resonate with so many of you.   Connect with Edward at edward.darling@hey.com.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
This episode is about reading, and how to help yourself read more.   I love reading, but that’s actually *not* why I’m making the argument for doing it more.   It’s because reading satisfies a very tricky set of conditions, in our modern lives: something that you can do, when you are completely exhausted, that does not have problematic side effects — and may actually make your life better.   I talk more about this very unique set of conditions that reading satisfies + I share 5 practical tips for how to make reading easier to do (and, yes, even more fun than Instagram!).   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I coach on clarity — or figuring out what you want — a lot.   I’ve realized recently there’s one thing that gets in the way of clarity with almost every client, at one point or another.   And that obstacle is: thinking too much about implementation before clarity is established.   So in this episode, I make my case for why we want to get clear on clarity before we even think too much about implementation + share 4 ways that I see implementation thoughts getting in the way of clarity. (Some of them are subtle + you're probably doing them without realizing.)   If you want clarity and you don’t yet have it, or you just want to build your skillfulness for when you’ll need clarity in the future, this episode is for you.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
52: Adaptability

52: Adaptability

Today I offer an idea that came up - as so many of my favorite ideas do - in working with one of my clients.   That idea is: adaptability.   I share a client story, a definition of adaptability (that might not be what you've heard before), and how I've applied it to one of my own challenges — plus, what I think you might take away from it, too.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I’ve been coaching for a decade now, and my business has grown quite a bit. I frequently get asked about how I grew my business, how I run it now, and how I think about the business of coaching.   In this episode, I answer some of these questions, as well as give a short summary of the state of my business.   I love being a coach, and I hope this episode is helpful. Even if you’re not building a coaching business, I hope this is a fun peek behind the curtain of how I think about all of this.   Have more questions about my coaching business? Today, I'm answering another question from a newsletter subscriber. Emily asks:   “When do you know if it's the right time for a career change? or How to deal with rejection?”   I answer these questions by offering a high-level concept, sharing 4 practical ideas, and discussing a bigger, deeper element that guides my own approach. I hope this episode is helpful to you, Emily — and to anyone struggling with these questions and feelings.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
In the self-development space, there's often so much content about "seizing the new year."   I can sometimes find it exhausting, so today, I wanted to share a shortie episode with an idea that you might not even use just yet. Today, let's talk about *travel.*   I share the story of how I realized this little idea was worth sharing + a little more about how I implement it.   I hope this is helpful to you in some way. Even if you aren’t traveling right now, you can keep it in your back pocket and use it when needed.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
If you’re starting to dream about the new year, I want to propose something that would significantly improve your year: Start a women’s group in 2025.   I'm calling it a "women's group" - but this episode is for men, too. I talk about what this kind of group *is*, my own experiences starting one, how we run our meetings, and what I think works well for us.   Just having a richer, deeper support system can make such a difference in our lives — I know it has for me. And I want to remind you that even if it doesn’t “just happen” naturally, you can make it happen — and that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. It would be such a blessing for your 2025, and for all who you include in that circle.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
We are approaching a very particular time of year. There are holidays, extra activities and events, and it’s a lot. So today I’m sharing what to do when you’re not going to fucking meditate. Or do three pages of fucking journaling. Or take an hour-long fucking walk.   Even if you would, in theory, like to do those things. Even if you’ve done those things — or even one of those things — regularly at some point in your life, and even if, you know those things make you feel good — right now, you are not going to fucking do them.   In this episode, I share how I think about caring for myself, in seasons like this — what I try to do for myself, and what I tend to suggest for my clients.   I’m going to talk a little high-level first - you know, what are we trying to accomplish here, when we our engaging with our “fuck meditation” selves.   And then I’ll get a little practical, to finish us out.   I also reference Episode 35: Agitation, that you might find helpful.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
Today I want to share about "feeling held by the world." It's a desire, or need, that underlies many other problems - if you're frustrated in your friendships, if you can never be as productive as you might like - this might be a concept that helps you in unexpected ways.   It's also come up with two different clients recently, and is a deep-yet-simple concept that often brings me calm + groundedness.   Per usual: in the episode, I define the concept, share a client example, and talk about why it matters + how you can cultivate more of it. I hope you like this lil' shortie episode, team :)   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
I am answering another newsletter subscriber question today. Camilla asked:   “I’ve just gotten divorced and not worked for some time while we relocated abroad and tried for a family. I have to get back to work but I’m scared and worry about how to communicate my career gap.”   Camilla's question is about charting a new path after a divorce, but I think it's also a question about much broader themes: how to figure out our next steps at any season of our lives, and how to balance our future needs with our current needs.   As I answer this question in this episode, I share 3 suggestions to keep in mind.   I also reference these two previous episodes that may provide additional insight into this question:   Episode 38: When Nothing is Wrong, But… https://www.katieseaver.com/best-life-coach-podcast/38 Episode 17: Compass Instruction Manual: https://www.katieseaver.com/best-life-coach-podcast/17   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
Today I’m answering another question from a newsletter subscriber. J asks: “How do I find time and energy for friendship when I'm exhausted by work and parenting?”   I share 6 practical suggestions for maintaining friendships when you are tired and overwhelmed. And then I talk about a higher-level problem that I think may be at play here.   I hope that these ideas help you maintain those friendships that matter to you and nourish you – and I hope that you find a way to feel even a little less tired and overwhelmed, in whatever season of life you're in.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
Here’s something I’ve said to three different clients just this week:   It might not be a logical decision. (At least not in the way that you think).   So, today, I want to expand on that a bit – I want to talk about three main weaknesses that our logical brain can have in some kinds of decision-making. Then, I’m going to talk about what we can consult instead.   And finally, I’m going to flesh out that second thing - “at least not in the way that you think.” Because there is a funny way in which non-logical decisions actually are more logical than we expect.   So if you are already tempted to not listen to this episode because you are on “team logic” - stick around, you might be surprised at where we end up. Given that I’ve said this to so many clients recently, I have a hunch that probably some of you out there, who are not my clients, need to hear it, too.   Subscribe to my newsletter for encouraging + helpful insights every Sunday: katieseaver.com/newsletter   Follow me on Instagram: @thisiskatieseaver   Learn more about working with me, or just learn more about my background + why I became a coach: katieseaver.com
