I’m delighted to share my recent One Thing or Another Podcast interview with Matt Lubbers-Moore, a bibliophile and mystery aficionado with an encyclopedic knowledge of both the bibliomystery and gay mystery genres. His devotion to the latter has resulted in his creation of an online bibliography of gay mysteries, reflecting a labor of love and a commitment to scholarship in the subject. Fasten your headphones as I talk with Matt about his life, career, love of gay mysteries, and an opinion or two. About Matt Lubbers-Moore Matt Lubbers-Moore is a newlywed having just married on November 10, 2018, with a huge passion for books, family, friends, life, and pizza. He has a degree in history with a minor in human rights and is currently a semester shy of a degree in Library Science. Matt is working on a bibliography of gay mysteries and loves writing bibliographies of character appearances for local comic book stores (although not as detailed as the gay bibliography). He was a LAMBDA Literary Award judge for 2017 in the gay mystery category, and he’s also a book seller who once had a physical storefront but now sells at comic cons, flea markets, and gay pride. His contact information is mattgenemoore@gmail.com (Matt would love to hear from people who have gay mystery recommendations for him, as he wants it to be as complete as possible). Matt is a co-moderator (along with page founder Jon Michaelsen) of the Facebook group Gay Mystery-Thriller-Suspense Fiction. You can find his gay mystery bibliography on Google Docs at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QzmD01J3zewc2gLUmV5rwM1K-O0uk0v0QMIK-71g0mA/edit?usp=sharing.
It’s a great pleasure to welcome author Michael Craft for the latest One Thing or Another interview. I’ve known Michael for several years now, since his short story Frog Legs appeared in an anthology I published and edited. It was also my first encounter with his characters Marson Miles and Brody Norris, who later became the central characters in his novels Inside Dumont: A Novel in Stories, and his latest, the murder mystery FlabberGassed: A Mister Puss Mystery. Listen in as we talk about Michael’s life, career, books and plans for the future.
It’s always a pleasure to chat with Dave Hughes of Retire Fabulously, and a delight to have him on the podcast. On this outing we talk about retirement (of course), why LGBTQ/gay safe spaces can be a factor in vacation planning, and a topic dear to both our hearts: writing! Sit back, adjust the volume, and fasten your headphones.
This week’s interview sheds light on an animal many of us share our lives with and many others consider mysterious: the cat. After speaking and emailing with Molly DeVoss about our new cat’s issues and how to resolve them, I had the pleasure of interviewing her. She’s as knowledgeable and generous with her time and expertise as she is kind and outgoing, and I know listeners will get as much from this chat with Molly as I did.
This week’s interview features author Marshall Thornton, mystery maestro, prolific writer and current Michigander (or, if you prefer, Michiganian). Marshall talks with me about his career trajectory, his life past and present, and the realities of making a living as a writer.
My first guest is Holly Palance, audiobook narrator, actor, writer, and the superb voice for the audiobook edition of my latest, Black Cat White Paws: A Maggie Dahl Mystery. Holly does an amazing job, and happens to be a marvelous person, too. Join me for a conversation about her life and her career change into the world of audiobook narration.
