Timeline healing is energetically situating ourselves so that we are exactly how and who we need to be today in order to become the freedom we can grow into, as a species. Sometimes that means we have to go back in time and repair something that is calling our attention. By doing so, like bones clicking into place, we click into alignment to unfold and evolve into the future we want. When we’re on the right timeline, it’s inevitable. In this episode, the 2 main characters travel back to a tender and young age, to meet at a time and place they wouldn’t have otherwise met, and here they share a special experience. Why do you think it was so important for them to travel to THIS particular moment, in order to become the freedom they will become in 40 years? What do you think they healed or repaired, or clicked into place, that leads us into birthing the freedom we want? Timeline healing – and conversations about how we grow, dismantle and evolve into freedom “in our lifetime” - cannot and will not unfold solely in the intellectual realm. Our unfolding into the freedom will be like this episode: non-linear, spiralling through time, embracing Spirit as it moves and takes us to specific places on a map that it knows we need to visit, even if we don't know ourselves. Our unfolding into freedom will be poetic, prophetic, and infused with artistic energy healing. It won’t give us straightforward answers. It’ll thwart our expectations and instead ask us to confront important questions in front of humanity. Our individual stories will offer us as a collective incredible potent medicine, guidance and direction, if we venture to look beneath the surface, and listen deeply to what is being communicated. Most of all, it will show us the truth about our Grief. The truth about our Love. The truth about our Names. And that’s the Name of this story. Welcome to our 2-Year Anniversary Special... "I want Justice for the Falling Leaf on the Wind." This week we received an AMAZING letter from one of our good listeners. Thus we are so thrilled to share our very first episode dedicated to an audience question! This letter complicates a much needed conversation about "Failure" and "Success." So often, we get so down on ourselves when things don't work out according to plan, and we feel like a "failure." Then, a lot of spiritual council will tell us that failure is actually a blessing and a protection - it's re-directing us toward something better than we could have imagined. It's an invitation to let go of what doesn't serve you and invest in something better and more aligned. This is all true. And. But... This letter asks us to grapple with the liminal "in-between" space where things haven't yet ended, and they haven't yet begun. In other words, we are no longer tethered to our old thing, and we have not yet landed in the new thing. Here, how we experience our failures and successes becomes much more complicated. Ultimately, today's episode shares a beautiful and much needed conversation on how we experience and the "END-OF-LIFE" phase and how we must protect and support the space of "transition" we so often find ourselves in. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer, halfway through the series we meet Nikki Wood - a Black woman, and earlier Vampire Slayer who was alive in New York City in the 1970s. In the beautiful Buffy tarot deck that was released in 2023... Nikki Wood is the Queen of Pentacles. In this episode, I tell a story about what happened when I pulled Nikki's tarot card on my altar, and what she taught me about Asian solidarity with Black liberation. In the process, I also share a painful story about what happened to me, over a decade ago, when I was financially exploited and sexually harassed out of a grassroots community Asian-centered arts collective....which also links up to pain I experienced when my Dad died in 2016. ...This is a very vulnerable story for me to share. I had this sitting on my desktop for weeks before I am finally publishing it tonight - Jan 25 2024 (hey Leo full moon, why not?) I don't share my story to gossip or publicly embarrass anyone - I firmly don't believe in that. But my Ancestors - and Nikki Wood herself - made it clear to me that I can't keep this story to myself, I have to release it with love. I believe we all need to release our painful stories, and allow them to be received and held with love, lest we let them quietly eat away at us. This story showed me how generations of anti-Black racism charges through so many Asian spaces, Hollywood, grassroots arts organizations, and how we treat our Storyteller Community Mothers, including Barbara Smith and Audre Lorde of Kitchen Table Press. It doesn't matter who you are or what genre you write in - all of us who are writers today owe our recognition, reciprocity and respect to the Black women, and Indigenous/women of colour who stewarded Kitchen Table Press. None of what we do as writers would be possible without them. In this episode I also touch on the film "Everything, Everywhere, All At Once", the way the Oscars disrespected Angela Bassett, Chadwick Boseman's death, and the Ancestral directive for Asian folks to prioritize "rooting down" to deeper healing foundations so that we do not continue to give away, align with, or allow our magic to be snatched up by white supremacy / supremacy culture in general and capitalism. Nikki Wood, Vampire Slayer. Queen of Pentacles. My utmost of gratitude to you for helping me release this important story. As I lift you up - I must lift up again my Soulshifting Community and Funky Tribe Family. These are Black and Indigenous centered healing spaces dedicated to cross-cultural Ancestral solidarity. I lift up my mothers, mentors and friends: Dr. G. Love Geryll Robinson, Dr. Deanna Downes and Dr. Stephanie R. Burns. I lift up everyone in the hoop. I lift up all my Deer Black friends and chosen family. The Black Ancestors who are on my team, on my side, and show up for me everyday as I fumble around, trying to remember myself. It's because you've been my family and my friends, that I am able to share this story today. You have held me accountable to the true definition and spirit of lineage healing and Ancestor veneration. Because of you, I came home to my deep soul's need to have what I need for my ongoing commitment to heal anti-Blackness within myself and for my entire lineage. We have been aching, and aching, and aching for this, for generations. I believe that everybody is. I want everyone to wake up to the fact that being accountable to our "privilege" or living our lives in true spirit of solidarity and reparations...is not a joyless chore. It's not something to lecture ourselves into. That's not sustainable. And it's not even true. The fact is, there isn't an opposition tug-of-war between "the hard work of allyship" and "taking care of ourselves / experiencing joy". The truth is that the deepest parts of our lineage are ACHING for Black Liberation. ACHING to heal anti-Blackness. ACHING for a Free Palestine. ACHING for Indigenous LAND BACK. WE OURSELVES ARE ACHING FOR IT. It's where our JOY is. It's where true FULFILLMENT & WEALTH is. It's where our Soul's Peace and Heart's Happiness Live. We will never find what we are looking for in life, not really, unless we do this. For every Buffy fan out there: my wish is that we remember the truth - that if we were to ROOT DOWN deep enough, we would realize that we get as much joy and love from healing our anti-Blackness as we love and enjoy watching Buffy. We remember that we Love Indigenous Freedom, we Love a Free Palestine, as much as we Love Buffy... ...And Nikki Wood. Welcome back to the Ancestors' Writers Room! This is episode 2 of our podcast drama mini-series, weaving together the big movements and the small things. In this episode, Shaunga asks her Ancestors' Writers Room a Big Question: what are the roots of genocide? If we can understand the roots, maybe we can learn enough to dig them up and plant something new. An Ancestor named "Lyra" steps forward to answer this question, telling us a story from deep within the heart of the Multiverse. "Without looking at the dictionary, define the word Monster." This journal prompt is from Kai Cheng Thom's beautiful recently published book: "Falling Back in Love with Being Human: Letters to Lost Souls." Shaunga started reading this book on the first day of an Ancestral Artist's retreat, on October 8 2023. She had her phone off, hadn't seen the news at that point and had no idea what was going on in the world. She was, however, in direct conversation with her Ancestors who are always very aware and tuned in. Shaunga began journalling and writing poetry inspired by Kai Cheng's journal prompt. The line that appears in this episode is the first thing she wrote down while answering this question. Without looking at the dictionary, define the word Monster: "A Monster is an Otherworldly Giant, a Planetary Priestess, and/or a Wicked Witch, living in a world that doesn't know she is one." From here, Shaunga began channeling this entire project, "The Ancestors' Writers Room" (that did not exist in this way before October 8) - a project that seeks to share Ancestral wisdom intimately intertwined with the freedom movements erupting since then, including Free Palestine. *This episode / cosmic folktale, is another version of a similar story Shaunga shared at Otherworldly Giants' "galactic new year" event on July 26, 2023. What does it really mean to cast a love spell and do it ethically? How to be responsible with one's magic when your heart and other people's hearts are involved? We study our beloved problematic Buffyverse character Xander Harris, and the love spell he cast in the season 2 episode "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" as a great example of what NOT to do! In the process we make some incredible discoveries about Xander and Cordelia's relationship, and Cordy's entire character arc up until the end of her time on the spin-off, Angel!
