In this episode, Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Professor Raymond Kaempfer of the Faculty of Medicine, focused on biochemistry and molecular biology of the human inflammatory response. Prof. Kaempfer is a leading expert in his field, working on top secret biological warfare to shifting the mindset of our future use of antibiotics. His work has always revolved around, what he terms: from death to survival, researching immune storms that contribute to human death and developing novel molecules that prevent these storms and save lives. From a difficult childhood with no toys that fostered his imagination and determination, find out his journey to becoming a top scientist and the importance of doing it in Israel. Prof. Kaempfer’s almost 50 year career at The Hebrew University, along with his achievements and breakthroughs have already affected your life. And he has no plans to stop. In fact he’s even made his lab more “homely” for the long days he spends there. And maybe even nights. How will his latest research affect your health? Let’s get Out of Lab and listen in. In this episode, Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Prof. Eran Sharon, from the Racah Institute of Physics at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Prof. Sharon sees the world a bit differently, through the eyes of a physicist and experimentalist. Leading the new field of 4-D and self-morphing, he and his team are going to change the way we too see the world, from pasta that changes shape when you cook it to textiles that can be programmed to move in different shapes, and even new construction materials that will affect the way we will build, from cutting down on wasteful materials, manpower, time and pollution. How exactly does his research translate to the marketplace? Let’s get Out of Lab and listen in. In this episode, Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Prof. Yossi Buganim from the Hebrew University's  Developmental Biology and Cancer Research and the head of the stem cell lab. They discuss his research in regenerative medicine, a pioneering field in health tech, and learn about his trailblazing efforts that aim to replace lost or damaged cells, tissues or organs in the human body through cellular transplantation. Just imagine you can take your skin cells and turn them into the cells you need. No more organ donor lists, all patients could be at the front of the line. How does that work, how did Prof. Buganim go from his dreams to be a footballer to a scientist, and what are his goals today that will redefine the healthcare system of tomorrow? Let’s get Out of Lab and listen in.  To learn more about Dr. Buganim's research or if you are interested in investing, licensing, or just finding out more, contact us here at Yissum or visit our LinkedIn page.
In this episode, Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Prof. Yael Mishael. After following her heart into environmental studies, she quickly became the black sheep of her family…of artists. However, her passion gave her the drive to not only take on research, but become a leader in green tech as the Hebrew University’s Director of the Center for Sustainability. In this episode we discuss it all, from tips on how you can live a more sustainable lifestyle, to how waste can even effect good wine, and why yes the cliche: “saving our planet,” is still relevant and more important than ever. So let’s get Out of Lab and listen in. Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Dr. Yedid Hoshen at the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. How does one go from Oxford University to trading stocks, a soldier in the Israel Defense Forces focusing on space and now leading a lab on the most cutting-edge deep learning machines? Sounds like a lot, and yet Dr. Hoshen is really just at the beginning of his career. Learn about his talents, his need to be challenged and why Dr. Hoshen chose academia over university to pursue his goals. So let’s get Out of the Lab and listen in. In this episode, Host Molly Livingstone speaks with Dr. Uri Stoin at the Casali Center of Applied Chemistry, The Institute of Chemistry, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In this candid conversation Dr. Stoin immediately admits he wasn’t the best student and as a Russian immigrant, his parents had high expectations for him. But his passion for green technologies and advanced oxidation processes focusing on environmental challenges has led him to many inventions, patents and successes. His technologies have a wide range of applications from contaminated water, treatment of nuclear waste, plastics, vegetation control, to treatment of emissions, whether industrial or Carbon Dioxide. Dr. Stoin will make you think as much as he will make you laugh from his honest childhood stories, biggest failure moments and his big dreams for the future. So let’s get Out of Lab and listen in.
