Each month, we will discuss one of the panelist's—or a listener's—favorite games with a focus on thoughtful and insightful criticism.  In this episode, we play the 2023 game that we just had to cover--The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. An early contender for game of the year in a year that's stacked the brim with hits, TOTK surprised everyone when it launched this May and answered the question we were all asking: how does Nintendo possibly follow up from Breath of the Wild. We discuss the merits of GOTY conversations as well as the narrative and world building elements of the game with our deep dive into gameplay mechanics coming in Part 2 of this special Zelda series.  Follow us on Twitter @playmyfave or individually on Twitch: Ashman1986, punchkid, and Nostalgick1 Playing Favorites: A Videogame Podcast is produced by Nick Burnham, Cole Delgado, Ashton Herrmann, and Eric Saupe. Welcome to Playing Favorites: A Videogame Podcast! Playing Favorites is a podcast about making your friends finally play your favorite games. Each month, we will discuss one of the panelist's—or a listener's—favorite games with a focus on thoughtful and insightful criticism. Here's an early one to make up for last month! In this episode, we cover one of Cole's modern favorite games, Lost Judgment! High school bullies, arcade-style mini-games, and flashy kung fu moves abound in this police-procedural-turned-pseudo-open-world-mystery smorgasbord. Join us as we talk through the opening chapters of private detective Takayuki Yagami's second adventure in the Judgment series, where investigating a grisly murder, gang violence, and a train groping are just the tip of the iceberg for this sly senpai sleuth. Niche, flawed, and yet essential, the game proves to be much greater than the sum of its parts and surprisingly engaging. If you've never played a Yakuza game, definitely check this one out! Next time, we'll catch up with Eric's first pick, the esteemed SNES classic by Square, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. We're also still taking listener suggestions for our fifth game, so be sure to send your submissions to playmyfave@gmail.com Follow us on Twitter @playmyfave or individually on Twitch: Ashman1986, punchkid, and Nostalgick1 Playing Favorites: A Videogame Podcast is produced by Nick Burnham, Cole Delgado, Ashton Herrmann, and Eric Saupe. Each month, we will discuss one of the panelist's—or a listener's—favorite games with a focus on thoughtful and insightful criticism. In this second episode, the panelists discuss Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness, Ashton's favorite Quest for Glory (and one of his favorite games of all time). The fourth entry in the Sierra classic point-and-click adventure-RPG hybrid series, Shadows of Darkness is set in Mordavia, a kingdom heavily influenced by Eastern Europe and infested with vampires, werewolves, and Lovecraftian horrors.  Does the game hold up to modern sensibilities? Is it the underrated classic Ashton's always believed it to be? Does it ever run out of puns? Listen and find out. Episode 3 will be our deep dive into Cole's pick: Lost Judgment. Our fifth game will be a favorite game as submitted by our listeners. If you would like to hear us discuss one of your favorites, send an email to playmyfave@gmail.com.
