Today we are joined by Skye Pillsbury who is the main person behind the Inside Podcasting Newsletter. Skye began her career as a public relations professional. She worked at Niehaus Ryan Wong, helping to build the agency’s first “Internet” and “People and Technology” divisions. She directed the strategic public relations of over 10 clients, including Yahoo! before, during and after the company’s high-profile IPO. After leaving Niehaus Ryan Wong, Skye joined LinkExchange as a director of marketing. LinkExchange is a Sequoia-funded Internet start-up. Skye helped to generate enough “buzz” to attract the attention of Microsoft, who acquired the company one year later. At Microsoft, Skye managed a yearly budget of 20+ million and drove all strategic marketing activities. Eventually Skye returned to the PR agency world. She worked she worked for Eastwick Communications, and OutCast Communications. During her career as a publicist, Skye has garnered press coverage in numerous leading publications and media outlets including the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, CNN, New York Times, NPR, Fortune, GQ, TechCrunch, San Francisco Chronicle and Rolling Stone Magazine. She has been on tour with clients on both coasts and around the country and has orchestrated hundreds and hundreds of media interviews. Recently, Skye jumped the fence from PR to writing; she now pens the Inside Podcasting newsletter for Inside.com and also produces a podcast which is called Inside Podcasting.

Ant McGinley on Podbites #GoLive #Interview

Today we are joined by Ant McGinley, who is a radio presenter at Communicorp UK and producer of several podcasts, including award winning football funny show “On The Left Side”. Ant started his love affair with audio on a student radio station in 1996. After graduation he went to work for BBC Radio 1, Classic FM and Kerrang Radio. He made his very first podcasts in 2005, only stopping because he took the opportunity to present a morning show on commercial radio. In 2013 he took a leap of faith and decided that podcasting was the future. Since then he’s made about 450 podcast episodes and picked up 3 nominations including 1 Award for his work. (Statistically this means at least one in every hundred episodes he does is quite good.) He picked up the award for his satirical football show "On The Left Side" which he makes with his long time colleague Jim Salveson. The show has won critical acclaim and led to them both being hired to create new podcast content for the Communicorp radio group. Ant is based in Manchester, UK, but his passion and experience has led him to being invited to speak on podcasting at events and on radio stations around the world. One of the examples, is the worlds largest podcaster conference Podcast Movement where he was with his keynote presentation “Podcasting from Nothing”. In this talk, Ant guides the room from starting without any idea, or equipment, to releasing a show on all good podcast apps (including Castbox) in just 20 minutes. In this episode, we are talking about podcast content creation. We discuss what is the difference between radio and podcast content, podcasting as business, and some key things about podcasting in Europe.

ZhenFund was founded in 2011 by former entrepreneurs, co-founders of New Oriental, the largest provider of private education in China, Bob Xiaoping Xu and Victor Qiang Wang. The goal of ZhenFund is to invest in the most promising innovators. The fund was launched in collaboration with Sequoia Capital China. ZhenFund now has a network of over 600 portfolio companies, including over 10 unicorns based in China and has offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Silicon Valley. The total size of the fund is around 1 billion dollars. Wei’s investment portfolio includes such companies as Leap.ai, Subtle Medical, Citcon, and many others. Wei held leadership positions in a number of world class internet companies: Prior to ZhenFund, he was the Chief Marketing Officer at Google Greater China. Wei was an entrepreneur himself, he had founded startups in both US and China. Earlier in his career, Wei worked for eBay, Intuit and NBC internet. In this episode, we are talking about why ex-Googlers are so special and what are the most interesting segments in media & entertainment that can flourish in the future.
