38. #ERASE&REWIND: 02 - So, Where Did You See Me Go? (S04) | Podcast Historias

ABOUT THE EPISODE ALPHECCA PERPETUA finally decides to go for broke and try "professional" to see how it'll get on, but still fails miserably and yet stays insufferably true to the podcast's brand. She finally follows the script and is now deluded that she has leveled up. She burps, she warms her vocals real time, she meditates, she sings, then she rants. And then she rambles on to corelate moist chocolate cakes to Justin Timberlake, Neuroscience, Adolescent Brains, Politically Savvy Women, Sociopaths, and more nonsense. She has now reached sentience on how supersaturated her personality is, and has convinced herself that the world is flat. And that she may be eating cows, flies, and horses for breakfast. So please take heed: DO NOT LISTEN. EXCERPT: The Reality of the Nonexistent Filipino Identity | Podcast Historias with Alphecca Perpetua

Podcast Producer Alphecca Perpetua shares her sentiments on the reality of the nonexistent Filipino identity dating back to the three principal peoples of pre-historic and ancient Philippines: the Negritos, the Malays, and the Indones, who already greatly differ in phenotypes; from skin color to survival behaviour. On the other hand, Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes paralleled the ideology of "The China Man" being well-grounded to their Chinese identity and ancestry, same as Jewish communities, while modern-day Filipinos would easily adapt to different cultures and practices. And also the supposed issue behind Andrés Bonifacio's scheme to use José Rizal's name during KKK meetings that led to the latter's eventual demise. In other words, "Why, Andrés? Why!" EXCERPT: The Missing Irony, Philippine Revolutions & its Election Results | Podcast Historias

Podcast Producer Alphecca Perpetua asked Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes if the 1986 EDSA Revolution and the 2022 Philippine Elections results were both contrasting historical events, and found that the two weren't as different and weren't as ironic from 16th to 19th-century Las Islas Filipinas after all; with cities, municipalities, and towns still ruled and governed by the same Principalía (or ruling Mestizo Class) now simply known as the "Politician-Elect". He added, "I was using these families as examples that not much has changed in the Philippine society since the Spanish period. How our society is run is simply dictated by the choices of a very few wealthy elite families. The Principalía of the 1800s pretty much dictated how their local communities were governed. Fast forward to today, we are still slaves to the choices of a few wealthy families who may or may not come from the Principalía of old. This idea came from Alfred McCoy in his book, 'An Anarchy of Families: State and Family in the Philippines.' A must-read especially in these [trying] times." EXCERPT: Cebu City, Pyramid Schemes & the Battle of Tres de Abril | Podcast Historias

Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes claimed that the not-so-secret society KKK was the original "Pyramid Scheme" in the Philippines due to the nature of its fractal recruitment style of triangle system and grades. And while heavily stationed in the Luzon-Manila area, the KKK started recruiting members in the Visayas region; primarily around the Iloilo and Negros area due to the Mestizo's wealthy network and connections brought by large profits of estates and plantations, which eventually led to the recruitment of Hiligaynon revolutionary leader Lt.-Gen Pantaleón "León Kilat" Villegas to spread word of an upcoming rebellion on the highly urbanized Cebuano shores that would soon be known as the bloody battle of Tres de Abril. EXCERPT: The 1898 Philippine Revolution, Winning Battles of a Still Ongoing War | Podcast Historias

Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes debunks another popular belief that the KKK, a Philippine revolutionary secret society, was a peasant revolution. Instead, he emphasizes that it was mostly led by fellow Mestizos and other wealthy individuals; that most—if not all—"true peasants and indios" were minding their own businesses: fishing, farming, and gossiping. Although, the general populace already had the idea of a lingering independence fight as news about the Mexican War of Independence had earlier reached the Philippine shores. EXCERPT: The Undesirables Brought by the Galleon Trade | Podcast Historias with Alphecca Perpetua

Aside from bringing fortune and culture, what else did the Galleon Trade bring to the Philippines? For two and a half centuries, Spanish trading ships sailed between Acapulco and Manila that brought cargoes of luxury items such as tobacco, spices, and porcelain to the Americas. During the Spanish empire, priests and missionaries were mobile. And also aboard the galleons were deportees, prisoners, exiles, and among other undesirables from the colonies; making a diverse variety of crewmen traveling between Spain, Peru, and the Philippines. EXCERPT: An Unconquered Mindanao, the Spanish-Moro Conflict | Podcast Historias

With all the 16th-century Spanish ruckus between Cebu and Manila, whatever happened to Mindanao? Resident Historian Amiel "Cortz" Cortes recounts on the Spanish-Moro conflict originating from medieval 11th-century Europe, where Muslim-Christianity hostility was first recorded. Apart from infighting issues between a few Muslim tribes, the sea border (Bohol Sea) separating Visayas and Mindanao also contributed to the slow progress — with an additional note that the Ifugao tribes within the Cordillera region (Northern Luzon) were also free from Spanish reign; mentioning their threats of Spanish heads displayed on spikes and poles within routes as warnings.
