On this episode, I interview the fun and fabulous Elizabeth Su about her amazing deck The Adventure Tarot and her decision to center Asian-American women in this project, working to actively dismantle the lack of representation in spiritual spaces that have so often centered the white experience. We discuss undoing patterns of codependency, encountering shadow figures in dreams, navigating neurodivergence, and her journey of embracing and celebrating her mixed racial heritage as a form of inner teen healing.More from Elizabeth’s bio: Elizabeth Su is the author and creator of The Adventure Tarot, a road trip-inspired deck about self-discovery, belonging, and celebrating Asian joy. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University where she researched burnout and perfectionism. Prior to that, she was busy hustling for her worth at a Silicon Valley start-up. Her work has been featured in, among others, the Los Angeles Times, POPSUGAR, and Bustle and centers around topics such as self-love, intersectionality, and the multifaceted nature of being human.Follow Elizabeth’s work and various projects here!Psyche Magic Website, Socials and more! This is a public episode. On this episode, Raven Robbins and I unpack the archetype of the Mother through the lens of both personal and collective experiences. We also discuss Jungian archetypes in a broader context and their significance on the esoteric path. On today’s new episode I got to interview Emily Weiner: visual Artist and fellow East Nashvillian, at her fabulous home studio! We discussed the distinctly Jungian and philosophical influence on her work, her creative process and career trajectory, along with her methods of incorporating both the personal and collective unconscious into her process — letting the layers of meaning unfold over time. Her dream she brought to discuss reflects the tension every artist must navigate between the institution and commerce around art vs. the authentic exploration needed to create truly resonant and enduring work. More from her bio: Emily Weiner’s paintings consider the art canon through a feminist and Jungian lens. By reconfiguring symbols that have been recycled throughout the history of art, her work questions how archetypal images are shared across generations — and how familiar symbols might be reordered to generate new, collective understanding. Weiner approaches each layer of her painting intuitively, and by working in many layers of paint, finds synchronicity in combinations of colors, forms, and symbols. She creates multimedia frames to further demarcate spaces of suspended disbelief in each of her paintings. Follow Emily’s work and various projects here!Psyche Magic Website, Socials and more!Thank you for being here! On this episode, I talk with Dr. Laura Anderson: therapist, trauma resolution and recovery coach, writer, educator, and creator, about her vast expertise in Religious Trauma. We shape the conversation around different facets of her newly published book: When Religion Hurts You: Healing From Religious Trauma and the Impact of High Control Religion. This is a subject I have wanted to discuss in depth on the show for quite some time, as healing from religious trauma has been a significant aspect of my own mental health journey. Laura and I discuss some of the nuances of religious trauma (such as purity culture, fundamentalism, and abusive dynamics of power and control) through the lens of our own personal experiences, but also broaden the discussion into psychoeducation about trauma in general, and dismantling some of the more common misnomers. I hope this conversation is helpful and healing to anyone who can relate. CW: discussion of detailed themes of religious trauma throughout Follow Laura's work and various projects here!Psyche Magic Patreon, Website, Socials and more!NEW 1:1 Dream Coaching! As a reminder, detailed show notes with all referenced material from the episode (as well as plenty of other fun bonus resources) are available to Patreon subscribers!--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jordan-hale1/message This is a public episode. On this episode, Ben Glover educates me about the world of Hypnotherapy, which is all about connecting to the subconscious to facilitate change on a deeper level. When working with his clients to help with things like smoking cessation, anxiety, and addressing creative blocks, Ben often engages the language of symbol as a means of communicating with the subconscious mind. We discuss lucidity and receiving guidance in dreams, as well as Ben’s personal history and formal training in meditation practices that foster a sense of peace and inner connection. This involves empowering those who are grieving to cultivate creative and spiritual means of continuing their relationship with their loved ones, rather than adhering to the persistent and damaging societal narrative of “moving on.” She shares a powerful dream that introduced her to one of her spirit guides, and pointed her to deep healing work within multiple layers of her life and experiences. On this very special compilation episode, my guests and I discuss the groundbreaking use of dream sequences throughout one of our all-time favorite TV series: The Sopranos! My friends Eduardo Domenech (attorney and my original Sopranos shaman who introduced me to the show) and Michael McMillian (actor, writer, and co-host of the Bigfoot Collector’s Club podcast) put our heads together about the lasting impact of the writers’ choices to consistently integrate the dream realm of various key characters throughout the series, and our theory that the notoriously nebulous final scene may actually be a dream sequence (gasp!) We consult a key text: The Sopranos Sessions: A Conversation with David Chase to deepen our layers of inquiry and curiosity in celebration of a show so many of us still can’t stop dissecting decades later.
