Autarky is a characteristic of self sufficiency usually used to describe societies, countries and various economic systems. This is a very erudite topic, which we aimed to simplify. We explore if we have reached some form of autarky during this pandemic, and discuss the effect it would have on our life if this fantasy becomes reality. We use analogies to determine if autarky can be beneficial, and if at all it can be executed. Even though this is a very serious topic, we use the analogy of a zombie apocalypse and quarantining, and debate if living in autarky can be considered sustainable living in some ways. ‘Ignorance is bliss’ is a popular saying that many people tend to take for granted, to the point where it has lost its original meaning. Thomas Gray, who is an English poet, talked about childhood bliss when he gave birth to the line. In a time where ‘knowledge is power’, is ignorance truly bliss? Or maybe in complicated situations, that are presented to us in this chaotic life, maybe it is blissful to be unaware. From discussing about Santa Claus, and hiding tattoos from parents, to hiding or not acknowledging critical diagnosis, we talk about the ethics and give our opinions on offering and accepting these ‘hard truths’ from our loved ones.
