This week on the See Me Be Me podcast we welcome Paulette Watson MBE, a global tech disruptor and Managing Director of Academy Achievers. We discuss her journey in the tech industry and her passion for empowering marginalized communities, particularly black women and girls. Inspired by her father, a mathematician and engineer, Watson founded Academy Achievers to provide STEM education and mentorship. She emphasises the importance of holistic development, including technical skills, mental health, and soft skills. Watson aims to raise the aspirations of underrepresented groups in STEM through her "Be Me" digital inclusion program. She also highlights the need for ethical AI development and the importance of collaboration and representation in creating inclusive environments. Her energy is infectious and her experiences are unmatched. We are so grateful that she was able to come on the podcast, thank you!
Lee Chambers is one hell of an individual. Lee grew up in Bolton, heavily inspired by his parents work ethic, his "crazy uncle's" love for computers and his grandad's values. Lee's ability to learn and reflect at each point of his journey is perhaps his greatest skill. Whether it be the lack of role models growing up, struggling with identity during university, losing his grad scheme to the recession or falling terribly ill as a father and entrepreneur, Lee has always known how to come back stronger. He walks us through his different ventures and provides a tone of useful pointer along the way. As well as heading up their Manchester office, Harold works closely with clients in Africa and the Middle East, and is committed to increasing diversity in law. He’s Addleshaw Goddard’s Ethnicity lead on their inclusion and diversity programme, and mentors aspiring lawyers both within the firm and beyond. And he’s been recognised for his work, as one of the UK’s Hot 100 Lawyers of 2024, for his impact and innovation, as well as being shortlisted for a Diversity Champion award at the UK Diversity Legal Awards. Basically, Harold is leading in his field and making sure he’s holding the door open for more diverse talent to follow in his footsteps.
Donna Otchere is a Programme Officer at the Royal Academy of Engineering, and the co-founder of SiSTEM along with her sister, fellow SEE ME BE ME alum Dr Abigail Otchere! She joins us to talk about how she discovered her dream job at the Royal Academy of Engineering, how sisterhood keeps her strong, and how she wants every young woman in STEM to be SEEN.
Dr Abigail Otchere joins Nile and Blair on the SEE ME BE ME podcast to discuss her career as a medical writer, how she overcame three rejections to study Medicine to carve her own path, how she sees the future of medicine evolving, and her work setting up SISTEM, a non-profit to encourage other young women to pursue careers in STEM.
