Lecture by OCAP member Gaetan Heroux on November 9th, at the University of Toronto. Based on a paper by Gaetan & Brian Palmer ‘Cracking the Stone’: The Long History of Capitalist Crisis and Toronto’s Dispossessed', Geatan relates the tremendously interesting, largely unknown history of resistance to draconian measures by the poor in Toronto, roughly from the 1830's to the 1930's.

John Clarke speaks about the founding of OCAP 20 years ago; AJ Withers describes their trip to the UK to meet with anti-poverty groups and activists in London, Bristol, Canterbury, Glasgow and Edinburgh and organizing there under the cloud of the current economic crisis and the draconian austerity measures.

Kelly Burgess interviews long-time (in both Mexico & Canada) activist Rogelio about his victory to finally gain status as a refugee in Canada after an 11 year battle to avoid deportation back to Mexico where he was tortured.

Kelly Burgess interviews Cristina Fernandez in the studio about Chile under the newly elected right-wing president Sebastian Pinera and the heightened danger he represents in a country that has yet to free itself from the constitutionally-mandated effects of the Pinochet regime; Cristina also comments on the attempted coup in Ecuador yesterday and how both situations can be viewed in the context of Latin American politics vis a vis the U.S. Following this, Kelly conducts a phone interview with Wendy Babcock about the enormous victory this week when Madam Justice Susan Himel of the Ontario Superior Court struck down three elements of the Criminal Code of Canada regarding prostitution.
