“They know enough who know how to learn”
Henry Adams
Learning as we all have figured out at some point or another is an ongoing process. This week on the podcast we took it back to when we started to understand that bad grades and poor attendance had an impact on more than just having to explain yourself to the principle
Jason , Mark and Micheal dodge between homework, accelerated learning, skipping grades, extra curricular activities, post secondary and collage, how do we all “learn” and much more.
Join us as we ask our favorite question and dig deep to see if we should’ve known better?
"When I tried to hit puberty, I swung and missed"
Bo Burnham
Puberty sucks. A phase you have no control over happening to you that you don't understand all while having to go through it in front of your parents/parental figure.
Thats why on this weeks episode we decided to dissect it with a birds eye view with a better mental state that isn't peppered with an over abundance of hormones.
This week Jason, Mark and Micheal go over oily skin, zits, our voices changing, body hair, wet dreams, emotional withdraw, puberty with you parents involved and many more things that we never planned for.

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain.”― Jack Kerouac
Jack, you could not have said it better. Micheal is also a huge Kerouac fan so there’s some biased involved but none the less, he proves a point, get out and see the world!!!
This week, Micheal, Jason and Mark review some of their most memorable trips (good and bad), the annoying aspects of airports and customs, do we travel in style or can we rough it out of a back pack, luggage and packing styles, getting used to the language barrier in a new country, heading to the hot spots or asking the locals where to go and many more rants and ravings.

"Parents just don't understand"
The fresh Prince
..Or is it that while growing up children eventually understand and experience things like sacrifice, loss, bliss, responsibility and an array of other relatable moments that give us the ability to look at our parents with more understanding and patience because some of those pre-mentioned lessons were done to make sure we were raised well. We can't paint all scenarios like that with child/parent relationships but its one of the many things Jason, Mark and Micheal talked about this week.
Divorce vs still married, which parent are you like more, your first childhood memory of your parents, lessons they taught us that we will use to this day, the drug/sex/relationship talk and lots more were thrown around the living room this week. Did we stick to the list? NOPE!

“After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” ―
Aldous Huxley
This week on the podcast , Mark, Micheal and Jason went over their years of music taste and knowledge and put it to the test with their younger selves to see who had the better collection. You'll also hear about first concerts, dream shows, meeting you music idols, how Mark and Jason are true audiophiles with their stereo equipment, car audio competitions and how we all obtain music in 2019 and tons more!
*correction, Jason wants you to know the term "ceremonial music" should actual have been coined "spiritual music"

“Don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t want plastered on a billboard with your face on it"
Erin Bury
Social media. Its been a blessing and curse since its inception roughly 15 years ago. Constant updates keep one in the loop at any time of day while at the same time people are more and more “unplugging” and changing their mind about how they are perceived online.
This week on Should’ve Known Better Jason, Micheal and Mark share their opinions on myspace ( their first social media platform if you can remember that far back ) , The Big 4 ( Facebook, Snap Chat , Instagram and Twitter) addiction, manners and online discourse, privacy, terms and conditions and the future of social media in our lives today and more.
Considering we're too old to have grown up with it in our teens we decided to look to the youth of today as well as ourselves and advise on how we might have dealt with it if we were 16 now and see if we should’ve known better.

“Ask not what you can do for your country. Ask what’s for lunch.”
Orson Welles
Thanks Orson, couldn't not have said it better ourselves. But we'll try.
I'm sure their are more important questions out there but for this episode , food is all we care about. Food brings people together, it breaks down barriers and is one of the most known vehicles when it comes to finding out who someone is.
This week Jason , Mark and Micheal adventure back in time to visit their gastrnomic pasts and see what they have learned about food over time, what they like to cook , cheat meals , proper diet and calorie counting, what they hated when they were kids and can they eat it now, late night cravings and stoner food and tons more that we'd rather have you listen to then bore you hear with the write up!
Find out if 1,2 or all 3 of them know any better now and should they have known better then.

"My personality disorder doesn't define who I am , it explains it"
Calm down
Take a deep breath
Smile, you'll feel better
These are just some of the many statements that a simple as they sound , if you're dealing with a mental health issue/illness it just doesn't compute.
This week on Should've known better we get dirty with Mental Health and what better way to celebrate Mental Health awareness month on the podcast then to all check in with each other on not only our own mental health but mental health in general. We take a look back on our own understanding of it, what triggers us, the misunderstandings and stigmas around it and a ton more that always seem to come ups that we don't see coming

"Before you get a dog , you can't quite imagine what living with one might be like; afterward, you can't imagine living any other way"
This quote plays to the canine world specifically but it really can be used to describe the relationship we come to have with pets in general regardless of your animal. Yes, we understand fish are pets too!
This week on Should've known better we are talking Pets. Pet care , pet cleanliness , pet death , first pets, dream pets and much more!.

“I love deadlines. I love the whooshing noise they make as they go by.”
Douglas Adams
Sounds like something we can all get behind when it comes to that dang thing that gets in the way of the fun in life which is work.
This week on Should’ve Known Better Mark, Jason and Micheal converse about their employment and have they learned anything since their first gig.
As well you'll hear about what gets them up in the morning and keeps them motivated, what kind of environment do they work best in, do they play well with others, how do we stay on task, do we enjoy “putting out fires” or do we believe in “fire prevention”, Organizational skills, and finally attendance which comes with a lovely story about why you should never lie to your employer with the "death in then family" line.
We'd tell you who it is but whats the fun in that!

Fashion Sense , some people have it , some people failed that class. No matter who you are though , whats hanging in your closet tells a story about you. To quote it best Forrest Gump said "Momma said you could tell a lot about a persons shoes, where they going, where they been". As simple as that is, theirs knowledge in that mans ramblings.
This week on Should've Known Better Jason , Mark and Micheal tell you their stories from what they used to think was "stylish" at 16 and if its still hanging in their closet today.
Oh, and theirs "Guyliner". Don't know what that is, you'll have to listen!

Welcome to The Should have known Better Podcast and our first episode!
Hosted By Mark Cowell, Jason Brett Fahlman and Micheal Petrow.
Our Premise was simple. With sayings like "The Grass isn't always greener","Hindsight is 20/20”, "If I knew then what I know now" and a plethora of others we decided to look at who we all were when we were 16 year old Know-it-Alls's and compare and contrast to what we’re like now in our late 30's to early 40's. Have we learned anything? If we have, what new wisdom have we uncovered and lastly, should we have known better to begin with?
The first topic was an easy one. Being so new to each other it was only obvious to tackle friendship.
Enjoy!
