Simplifying Routines

Many of us (myself included) strive to develop more effective and efficient routines. Sometimes, we fail to realize that we have more functional systems in place than we realize. Personally, I've set lofty goals for improving routines in cleaning, homework, exercise, the morning hustle, etc. Those systems generally fail. What I have found does work is to do what I call, "obstacle-identification-and-removal". I'm sharing a little about that and some examples of how it has been useful for my home. Building Community ft. Michelle Kennedy

Once upon a time, building a village to raise a family probably felt simpler. The village was likely the (literal) neighbors and family members who lived right around the corner. But in today's world, our communities are more complex and diverse. The people we lean on may live nearby, but they also may live on the other side of the globe. The Comfort Crisis ft. Michael Easter

In today's episode, author Michael Easter, shares his work and theories on the topic of comfort. He posits that the growing rates of mental and physical health challenges may be rooted in the fact that we are living more comfortable lives than ever before. As parents, we strive to keep our kids as comfortable as possible when they are infants. But, perhaps we should ask ourselves if continuing on that path will negatively impact their future resilience. thx Gaia. I really liked it and think sometimes a well designed screen time tracker can make the child at least partially responsibility on child. what do suggest? creating and implementing ideas is great. e.g.I d suggest using calligraphy menu to a Persian restaurant and I think a tech-free drink reward means a lot for later discussion of parents.

I so enjoyed this episode. We did a 4 week European vacation with our 2 girls (20 months and 4). We spent about 3 weeks in Spain, where we toured with my family (parents and siblings) and then a week in Germany alone to 'debrief'. We've travelled to Europe with our oldest daughter 3 times before (when she was 9 months, 18 months and 2). She was such an easy, happy go lucky child and travelling was so easy with her. This was our first trip with two children. Which in comparison felt like going with 4. Not only are our two kids very different, but 1 + 1 just isn't 2. I too asked myself upon many occasions: why? And said: never again. In hindsight they did really well considering the extreme routine change, and long hours in the car, but when we asked my eldest daughter what she enjoyed most, she said: riding the little cars in the grocery stores (even though we were really tried doing something they enjoyed every day). This made us decide that we would still be traveling locally with th
