Are you ‘over-qualified’ and over 40+ in the current job market today? You’re not alone!  Guest Patricia Wowk comes back to revisit the state of unemployment for older people and her own job search. Older people who are unemployed represent the largest demographic in the country and still need to work because they can’t afford to retire.  This is happening to 1,000’s of women and men 40+ of all races and ethnicities all over the country. Yes, white people, as well as those of color.
Have you ever lost a pet you loved dearly? Most of us have gone through this. Our topic is: Grieving the loss of our pets. For many people a pet is not “just a dog” or “just a cat.” Pets are beloved members of the family and, when they die, you feel a significant, even traumatic loss. My guest will be Shirley Meyers, a Clinical Therapist, who will help us find ways to accept and cope with our grief and loss.
We are moving through a time of tremendous change! One of the aspects of this transformational time is that we are creating new and fresh perspectives on the meaning of the passages and initiations of our lives. By becoming more aware and "conscious" about death, we no longer need to fear it.  On Sunday, April 3, our guest Rev. Maria Dancing Heart Hoaglund will help us explore how we might weave both life and death (physical loss) back together again in a culture that has separated the two. We will look at ways that grief can teach us about life, and how we can remain open to learn from change as an opportunity for personal and spiritual growth. Maria will share from her rich experience as a hospice counselor which has opened up her own spiritual life in countless and profound ways.
To quote a mom and writer, Maxine Spence, conversations about death can be some of the most nourishing, life-enhancing discussions we have, but death is rarely talked about until a health crisis arrives and, often, not even then. Our birth is pure chance, but our death an absolute certainty. Please join me and Phil Carpenter from Washington D.C. Home and Hospices and listen to us let’s talk about it tomorrow on Social Work Today with Shirley Tabb at http://bbsradio.com/socialworktoday!
We will discuss the state of unemployment for the 'graying generation' of Baby Boomers over the age of 50.  This generation, the largest demographic in the country, is now reaching their 50's and 60's - an age where they need to work, but cannot retire.  As companies focus on recruiting Millennials, times are tough for those over 50 and particularly difficult for women over 50.
We will be speaking with Cheryl Patrice Derricotte, the Founder and Editor-In-Chief for 30 Minute Manager, an indie press she created in 2011. Founded in 2011, 30 Minute Manager provides sound strategies to enable people to tackle life's challenges and embrace great adventures. Cheryl is a life strategist for the 21st century, a frequent contributor to numerous publications, an engaging speaker, a trusted confidant and highly respected consultant. Cheryl is the author of 'Being the Grown-Up, Taking Care of Someone with a Terminal Illness' (2013) and we will be covering what this entails.
