Danny had a long career in finance. He began working in the city in 1997 working in the open outcry futures market. He moved into sales and trading for a European bank in 1999 and left banking in 2014. In that time, during the financial crash of 2008, Danny realised that he had a fascination with the human body and decided to embark on a new career. In 2010, alongside his banking career he began studying part-time at the British school of Osteopathy, now known as the University College of Osteopathy. After two years practising in the student clinic, Danny qualified as an osteopath in 2016. Since then he has been practising as on osteopath and is now a clinic tutor at the University college of Osteopathy. The transition to, and qualification as an osteopath was a huge personal achievement. It is a career he is passionate about and it gives me a deep sense of reward when I see patients achieve something in their life, they did not think possible. During my time as an osteopath, I recognised the psychological and social impact that pain can have on an individual and their interaction with their environment. In these areas, Danny noticed his limitations as an osteopath and decided to move in to health psychology. After qualifying with a MSc in psychology, then a MSc in health psychology Danny is now enrolled on the Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology at the University of West of England. Danny’s main research interest involves the role of fear in those experiencing chronic pain. This emotion has the power to withdraw the individual from society and their surroundings. Ultimately, Danny sees himself in a unique position. By using a combination of osteopathy and health psychology, he can help his patients overcome mental and physical barriers. Overall, helping his patients achieve a better quality of life and the confidence to embrace their environment.
