Bernie Sanders is understandably getting a lot of attention to his bid for the Democratic primary, but some long-time socialists question his socialist credientials. If anyone has standing to discuss the issue, it is the candidate of the US Socialist Party. While that is yet to be determined, Mimi Soltysik, one of the candidates for the nomination, joins Taking Back America to talk about his vision of a socialist America, the obstacles to getting there, and how we might do so if the majority of Americans make clear that is what they want.

What do Ukraine and Syria have in common? Both are attempts by the Empire to establish what GHW Bush labeled the New World Order, the idea of which is a stable order where those who control the US and other Western governments can set the rules for all of us.
In the case of Ukraine, the US role is so obvious that the CEO of the private intelligence agency Stratford called it "the most blatant coup in history." Even Kissinger acknowledged it, yet the US government and the pressitutes in the corporate media deny that obvious reality. In Syria, the hand of the US has been seen even in the corporate media since as early as 2012, along with blatant involvement of Turkey and Saudi Arabia and a less publicized role for Israel. Despite this, the Obama administration has yet to give up on its demand that Assad must go, no matter how many innocent Syrians die as a result.
In this interview, Karl Eysenbach deconstructs the Empire, hgihglighting its vulnerabilities and the reasons he believes it is failing.

Conventional wisdom is that Sanders' bid for the Democratic nomination will end as a tempest in a teapot. Those on the far left argue it will harm the effort to foment a real democratic revolution by reinforcing the myth that voters must support one of the Duopoly candidates backed by corporate patrons in order to win. They pounce on positions that show willingness to compromise to make the claim that he is not serious about change anyway.
Others see in his campaign evidence of a genuine revolt against the plutocracy. While those who are objective will concede that he is not really going to lead the US directly to where it needs to go to become a democracy and a responsible player on the world stage, the very fact of his popularity will not only promote the discussion needed to make Americans realize what needs to be done, but help build the grassroots organization necessary to do it. In addition to starting a conversation about the real roots of inequality and falling standards of living in the US, he is promoting specific actions to address the corrupting influence of money in politics, which he has been working on actively as a member of the Senate.
Joining the show in this discussion is Jerry Ashton, an Occupy activist and Huffington Post blogger who was an early promoter of Sanders and is now very involved in trying to convince Americans that the Sanders campaign is viable and utterly urgent.

Westerners never hear news from Syria unless there is the opportunity for a propaganda victory when the defenders of Syria and axis of resistance suffer a temporary defeat at the hands of the Empire. In this show, we get the chance to hear the rest of the stroy from Ziad Fadel, chief editor of Syrian Perspective. We will discuss with the status of the battle to halt the advance of the Empire in Syria, at tremendous cost to the SAA and the civilian population.
Those who defend Syria fight for all of us, because in a global New World Order where corporate interests rule supreme, none of us would be free.

We continue our discussion of the mutual problems facing citizens of the US and Canada that result from corporate control of their governments, with a discussion of some elements of the strategy to fight back.
Topics incude privatization, growing the military-industrial complex, promoting dependence on fossil fuels, abetting the loss of sovereignty by signing on to free trade agreements that give transnational corporations virtual control over government and suppressing dissent by draconian laws presented as necessary to fight the manufactured "War on Terror" by which the Empire of which both are a part justifies endless war to expand the global corporate empire.

If you are like most Americans, you either don't know anything about repeat Presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche or you only know the widespread characterizations about him. In view of the corruption that has become obvious to the most casual observer of the US government, it is worth considering whether his views stand by themselves. There has to be a reason for the intense loyalty he generates from those who know him best.
In this show, we first talk to one of his national spokespersons about the myths around LaRouche and the dangerous ideas he has about how to address the coming economic crisis and establish a just socioeconomic system. Dangerous to the banksters, anyway. Then the topic turns to exactly how the banksters are plotting to take over the planet, how their plan is playing out in Greece and what we can do to stop them.

It is obvious to those who pay attention to the problems caused by government corruption by corporate influence in various nations that these problems are very similar wherever they occur. This is because the same transnational corporations have been very busy in recent history capturing the governments. This is especially true of the international banking cartel, which by its ownership 147 of the largest international corporations controls 43,00 of the next largest corporations, thereby dominating entire industries that are looked out for by these captured governments.
As in the US, Canada is now ruled by corporatist tools in Parliament and the Prime Minister's office. Their agendas are the same: privatization, growing the military-industrial complex, promoting dependence on fossil fuels, abetting the loss of sovereignty by signing on to free trade agreements that give transnational corporations virtual control over government and suppressing dissent by draconian laws presented as necessary to fight the manufactured "War on Terror" by which the Empire of which both are a part justifies endless war to expand the global corporate empire.

It is impossible to comprehend the true costs of allowing corporate control of the US government without examining US foreign policy, whose interest it serves and who pays the price for endless wars and US-inspired chaos around the globe. In this episode, we talk with Siraj Davis in Jordan. He is American-raised and now living in Jordan. Davis is a teacher and long time activist for refugees,

How much do you really know about how the CIA works? If Americans knew, it is likely that they would be calling to shut it down. It is debatable whether it serves any useful intelligence function that might not be better served by other agencies in the massive intelligence complex created in the wake of 9/11, one that is arguably less efficient than before the creation of the Homeland Security Agency.
As for the covert operations, do we really need an unaccountabel agency overthrowing governments, conducting assassinations, propagandizing Americans and their allies, all to serve the "national interests" which are assumed to be identical to those of the leaders of transnational corporations who dictate US foreign policy acccording to their business plans?

TPP is an issue that is uniting left and right throughout the nations affected by this corporate power grab that threatens the ability of nations to legislate in the public interest if it affects the profits of transnational corporations that increasingly control their governments.
TPP is called the mother of all free trade agreements because it is much worse than the demonstrably harmful free trade agreements passed to date. In this episode, free trade opponent and blogger Rick North talks about how TPP affects all of us as well as the future of democracy itself.

Western reporting on international events in the corporate media is largely controlled by CIA influence in the media. This makes it possible to manufacture consent for or conceal the US role in conflicts throughout the Mideast and the world. Their techniques of propaganda have become so sophisticated and their control of the mainstream media so absolute that few Americans and not many more Europeans have a clue as to what is really going on in Syria, Libya, Ukraine and elsewhere.
John Mesler of New Jersey is an ordinary American whose eyes were opened when he started to look at the victims of US imperialism through their eyes rather than the lens of the corporate media. Through use of social media, he was able to establish extensive contacts in Syria with people who helped him understand what was really happening while he studied the allternative media for the background to understand why these events were occuring,
Mesler's research led him to go to Syria in April of this year, where he got the chance to talk directly with many Syrians who showed him the facts on the ground in places where travel was not out of the question due to the dangers posed by the ongoing terrorist invasion. On this show, he shares what he has learned.

There is a growing awareness of the mathematical impossibility of sustaining an economic model based on endless growth. Naomi Klein argued in her most recent book This Changes Everything that this is an inevitable result of the capitalist model. She points out that most reformers who want to get away from an economic system where regulation is only permitted by the regulated when it is to their benefit refuse to see that reform is not enough, because the problem is built into capitalism.
Rob Dietz, the former Executive Director of Center for the Advancement of a Steady State Economy (CASSE) has studied the problem of addressing limits on growth in depth, writing about it in his book Enough is Enough. He is currently working with Farmland LP, a company that acquires farmland and turns it into organic farms for organic farmers to manage without the cost of buying land, and that permits investors to make a profit from converting to an environmentally sustainable and economically sensible model of healthy food production.

Contary to popular opinion, the US Constitution not only failed to produce a democracy but did not even create a representative democracy. In addition to the exclusion of women, the propertyless, slaves and indentured servants from the right to vote, the original Constitution had built-in protections against democracy, which was just as now was considered then by some to be "tryanny of the majority."
The failure to educate our children about the genuine history of the US and the systematic brainwashing to convince them we live in a democracy has obscured the fact that we could have a much more representative government if we would give up worship of the Founders and abandon the ridiculous notion of "original intent" that suggests the constitution was written on stone tablets and handed down by God.
In this episode, Greg Wasson of Committee for Petition Rights in Oregon discusses how we can create a more representative government and the pros and cons of various ideas.

The US is in a state of perpetual war across the world, the human and economic costs of which are incalculable. The Global War of Terror can only end if Americans demand it. That is not likely to happen until they understand the root causes of war and its bastard twin, spying on other nations and the government's own citizens. When the people of the US realize that war is not inevitable, they can render it unthinkable.
In this show, organizational psychologist Dr Gary Brumback discusses the results of his research into the roots of warring and spying and outlines a plan to organize to end them. The interview covers only a small part of the information in his newst book Warring and Spying: America's Second Oldest Professions.

With average global temperatures continuing to set records almost annually, more Americans are admitting the reality of climate change, but are they admitting how serious it is and how quickly we need to act? Denial comes in many forms, and each of them requires a unique approach. To understand how to break through the denial of people who admit that global climate change exists but who want to believe there are good reasons to do nothing about it, we need to call in a psychotherapist.
In this episode, we talk to Margaret Klein Salamon, clinical psychologist who writes at The Climate Psychologist and who founded and is Director of TheClimateMobilization. The topic is how do we get people to understand the urgency of mobilizing to fight climate change and how to organize and use the Pledge to Mobilize campaign to compel Congress to act.

With ISIS continuing to wreak well-publicized terror in the Mideast, it is easier than ever to keep the flames of hatred toward Muslims alive in the West. As many have surmised from a variety of evidence, that may be the reason that the Frankenstein creation of the Anglo-American-Israeli Empire was created with the help of its allies in Turkey and the Gulf monarchies.
British Islamic scholar Paul Salahuddin Armstrong rejoins us to counter some of the more sophisticated arguments and myths about Islam used by those who are justifying demonizing the religion.

Around the world in the wake of Israel's latest brutal and illegal assault on Gaza, awareness of the pernicius nature of Zionism is building. Conversations have started in the US and Europe that were previously considered unthinkable due to the collective guilt of the world about allowing the conditions that gave rise to the Holocaust. While politicians in the US continue to be effectively captives of AIPAC and the rest of the Israeli lobby, the blatant attempt by Netanyahu to undermine President Obama's foreign policy again by speaking directly to the Israeli loyalists that control Congress have led a few to rebel in a small way.
A brilliant campaign to target an multibillion dollar Israeli government-controlled shipping company, recent successes in the BDS movement, increasing protests from the US religious community and a general increase in the visibility of American and European oppostion to Israeli belligerence and Zionism itself offers for the first time since the Nakba the prospect that Israel can be compelled to become the democratic state that it purports to be.
Former AIPAC member Rich Forer, author of Breakthrough: Transforming Fear into Compassion, A New Perspective on the Israel-Palestine Conflict, joins us to talk about the increasing movmentum of the Palestinian solidarity movement.

Opposition to TPP in the wake of the disatrous consequences of other free trade agreements is beginning to create awareness of the degree to which corporations have come to dominate nations. Less well recognized is how much control corporations have over communities, largely thanks to a neolibreral bias in the interpretation of the Commerce Clause but exacerbated by the Supreme Court's invention of the concept of corporate constitutional "rights" (personhood).
Kai Huschke of Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund joins us on this show to discuss what we can do to take back the commons by asserting the inherent sovereignty of communities.
