Description

The BEMA Podcast is a walk-through of the context of the Bible and the Text itself, as well as surrounding history. We deconstruct our common readings of the Bible and attempt to reconstruct them through the lens of historical context.
The main body of work is contained in Seasons 1–5, and we encourage you to start with episode 0 (or even -1) and continue in order through episode 204. Beyond that, we explore new topics, revisit old topics, and dive deeper into practical ways of living out the things we have learned together.
BEMA Discipleship is a ministry of Impact Campus Ministries.

Something interesting in New Living Translation. Read Ecclesiastes 12 in NLT. Remember your Creator now, while you are young.

I noticed in the covenant with Noah in my english translation that "you" is mentioned 8 times and the 8th mention is in the middle of the mini covenant chiasm. Does that work out in original language and does it have significance? I have always heard 7 is the number of completion and 8 is the number of new beginnings ??? New beginning in the middle of the covenant?

why the castration? can you explain any reasons as to why that was in the text and the motivation to do so?

I very much enjoyed these first lessons, concluding with Deuteronomy. Better questions I may now ask as I study God's Word. Thank you Marty and Brent.

your assessment of Western is inaccurate stereotypes and inaccurate dichotomies. why should I think that any of your statements about Eastern thought are more accurate than your thoughts on Western thoughts? especially since you came from a Western way of thinking.

Some questions: 1) If she was a priestess wouldn’t that have been noteworthy enough to be included in the text? Elle did mention it would be rare to have a female leader. 2) And if the 5 husbands were 5 books of Torah and not real why would it be so incredibly shocking to her and the whole town that Jesus knew? All the samaritans followed Torah so it wouldn’t be anything special. 3) is it really that shocking that the town listened to her if the story even if she was an outcast? If the story is compelling people listen - and it’s clear she is intelligent so it’s not like it was a crazy person making up stuff.

I am soo excited to have come across this podcast and teaching. I have wrestled with the specific question of how Eve was supposed to recognize evil, if she had no knowledge of evil, presumably only endowed by eating the tree. That question has bothered me for years and none of my leaders nor myself, have ever had good answers for it. My curiosity has earned responses on the gamut from “Well, she knew God and should have known to follow His direction” to “That information is non-essential doctrine, so it’s not worth answering” to my OWN answer, “I should examine why I want to know this. Is it from a sense of my own entitlement, or pride?” But it should mean something to wonder about it. In addition, I enjoy patiently walking with non believers, particularly those educated in Bible, through difficult problems like these, and it’s tough when the pose challenges to answer more than just “I don’t know, we just believe that” One such question my befriend brought up is that the snake is not

Hi. My name is Tina. I just wanted to say thank you for your lessons. I have only recently moved to Spokane. I am being called by God to learn. I have always had an unusual understanding of God in my life. My life has been anything but easy. Lol.. I am truly excited about what you are teaching. My eyes are being opened more every day. I just want to say thank you. I, too, would like to be an Essene, though I am a mom and grandma, which probably puts me completely out what is acceptable. I wake up every day and read and listen to the Word. I have been clean and sober for 4 1/2 years. The LORD has provided for me and my son very well. My son's father died in a crash so it is just us now. I have chosen to follow Jesus. It is the best choice I have ever made. Once again, thank you and I will continue to listen and watch your show.

I sit and listen to this lesson and I wonder, was Jesus talking about eating his body and blood, representing his WORD and not his physical body and blood. Jesus knew that eating blood was forbidden by THE FATHER. So he wouldn't ask us to do that, right? Just thinking! M.S.
