Episode #15 Firefighter, Legal Pot Advocate and Businessman, Good Dudes Grow Podcaster Gary Robert's Story.  A 15-year firefighter veteran and the special operations hazardous materials team in South Florida, Gary Roberts founded Pure Body Zen, Inc in 2017 as he searched for a way to help get his daughter off opiate dependency. Before he could get a safe and viable source his daughter passed away from an overdose on her 27th birthday. 3 Months later his father passed away and to his surprise he found out that his father was also dependent on opiates which was probably the reason for his passing as well.

Episode #10: FROM PILL POPPING CRIMINAL TO YOUTUBE INFLUENCER.... Today we have Josh, a fellow YouTube Influencer and local celebrity who has his channel DOVTV813! So right from the start his life wasn’t exactly normal, his mom was an alcoholic and around the age of 7 is when his father died in a car accident. His mom couldn’t and wouldn’t stop partying so he eventually ended up at his grandparents (on his dads side)house. Luckily for him they were willing to raise Josh. His grandma lost her daughter in a car accident and some years later lost her son in a car accident too. She had to bury both of her kids, but even with having to do that she took Josh in and was the best thing that could have happened for him. It was at this point in his life where he felt abandonment, always felt awkward, when your own mother doesn’t want to have anything to do with you, you start to think no one will. Now even though he had his grandma and she loved him very much, it wasn’t his mom. But she ended up doing more for than his mom ever did. When he was middle school he started to get this rush to act out, getting into trouble became a fun thing to do as crazy as that sounds. This is when he copped his first charge, and it was a big one. When he was in 6th grade Josh and a couple friends ended up robbing a house in the neighborhood. They stole jewelry, and some gun ammunition. They ended up getting caught and Josh got charged with grand larceny, and armed burglary. They charged him with armed burglary because they say he armed himself in the process of a burglary. It didn’t make any sense to him then, and still doesn’t to this day. Then he continued to get in trouble. Started getting into pills then started doctor shopping. Made a lot of money but then he was in accident and started needed the pills for himself. That was a long road of addiction. He racked up a whole bunch of petty charges, and finally got arrested and went to prison. Today he’s living a much better life today….He’s getting married in February, bought a home, has a dog, help people in recovery, became a personal trainer, and even works for Capitol remodeling. His life is completely different today, and is still kinda in shock by his own transformation. He is passionate about re entry and reform because he’s seen first hand what the system will do to someone. Re form for the criminal justice too! He wants to do whatever can help the person that doesn’t have someone in their life to help them. He’s also passionate about stopping the system from making people plea out to charges that they didn’t do. EPISODE #7: This evening we have PART 2, the CONCLUSION of Dave Smith's Story. At the age of 10 Dave’s parents split leaving him with a chasm of unsupervised time, confusion with his family life, and a diminishing sense of value. 6 months later he began drinking which became a steady distraction and addiction. At the age of 14 his father found 3 kilo’s of methamphetamine on a bus which he brought home. Shortly after Dave discovered this new drug an exposure that he found an even more enhanced relief and distraction from his life. Dave was incarcerated the first time at the age of 17. My friend has been in jail a total of 42 times, in Arizona state prison 3 times, with an accumulation of 13 various felonies. Long periods of his stay in prison were at various level 4 maximum security yards. He has spent the majority of his adult life of 20 years and 3 month behind bars. Dave’s first wife of 10 years was murdered while he was in prison at the age of 33. Our guest this evening made several life changing decisions after he met his current and second wife in September of 2012. Just before this Dave was convicted of his last felony count. Dave and his wife Amy married in January of 2013 just before his sentencing in March of 2013. They maintained their expanding relationship, growing love, and both expanded into a life and goal of character and upright living throughout his 6 years 6 months sentence. As we sit here today Brian and I are excited to bring you a new man, a free man of 2 years and 9 months. Dave also recently celebrated 10 years of sobriety from alcohol and drugs, an 8 year wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife, Amy who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He also has a son who is a political science major with a 3.7 GPA studying at University of Denver. Dave is now a proud leader in his family and skilled tradesman currently employed full time as a metal fabricator, welder, and mechanic at a large local trucking company. EPISODE #6: This evening we have PART 1 of Dave Smith's Story. He is a 53 year old multi-offense felon from Phoenix, Arizona. At the age of 10 Dave’s parents split leaving him with a chasm of unsupervised time, confusion with his family life, and a diminishing sense of value. 6 months later he began drinking which became a steady distraction and addiction. At the age of 14 his father found 3 kilo’s of methamphetamine on a bus which he brought home. Shortly after Dave discovered this new drug an exposure that he found an even more enhanced relief and distraction from his life. Dave was incarcerated the first time at the age of 17. My friend has been in jail a total of 42 times, in Arizona state prison 3 times, with an accumulation of 13 various felonies. Long periods of his stay in prison were at various level 4 maximum security yards. He has spent the majority of his adult life of 20 years and 3 month behind bars. Dave’s first wife of 10 years was murdered while he was in prison at the age of 33. Our guest this evening made several life changing decisions after he met his current and second wife in September of 2012. Just before this Dave was convicted of his last felony count. Dave and his wife Amy married in January of 2013 just before his sentencing in March of 2013. They maintained their expanding relationship, growing love, and both expanded into a life and goal of character and upright living throughout his 6 years 6 months sentence. As we sit here today Brian and I are excited to bring you a new man, a free man of 2 years and 9 months. Dave also recently celebrated 10 years of sobriety from alcohol and drugs, an 8 year wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife, Amy who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He also has a son who is a political science major with a 3.7 GPA studying at University of Denver. Dave is now a proud leader in his family and skilled tradesman currently employed full time as a metal fabricator, welder, and mechanic at a large local trucking company. As part of our Incarcerated: The Face of Felons series........This evening we have our full blown gay friend Virgil with us. Pun intended. With a self admittedly spoiled childhood, Virgil grew up in a stable home in a middle class suburban household. At the age of 18 Virgil’s father’s risky business ventures lead to the family’s financial collapse. At this point his privileged childhood was turned upside down providing him the first major valley in his life. At this point his inherent adversity came to the surface leading him to traveling to Hollywood to pursue an entertainment career. Virgil quickly became noticed for his dance and acting skills as the recipient of multiple awards from the International modeling and Talent Association. His astounding early talent lead him into working relationships and friendships with Alice Cooper, Tina Tequila, Pink, and Brittany Spears amongst others. After 12 years of working in the entertainment business Vigil’s immense success morphed into an inflated ego leading to a feeling of invincibility. This loss of his center lead to multiple DUI’s amongst other criminal convictions leading to a sentencing of 3 years in Arizona State prison under 31 felony convictions. His first day in prison, Virgil’s homosexual preference lead to a bloody fight with a 6’6” inmate. Virgil won that fight. Virgil’s subsequent entire 36 month stay in prison was met with repeated challenges of violence from the inmates. Virgil’s past experience with Taekwondo and Jujitsu. Virgil has been out of prison since 2013. He has been in loving long term relationship of 3.5 years with his partner Phoenix. As he looks back on his steady slip into the outlaw lifestyle he recalls his fascination as a young man with the underworld, and the seaming glamour of the criminal lifestyle. In 6th grade Kenny began to drink and use marijuana which lead to an eventual full dive into hard drug use at age 15. These decisions lead to his first incarceration as a sophomore in high school much to the dismay and shame of his mother who was a teacher in the same school system. With the majority of his adult life spent behind bars, Kenny missed many climactic family moments including his own brother’s death by drowning. Recently, at age 54 Kenny was released from prison. He’s been out for 16 months, been sober from alcohol and drugs for over 5 years, and enjoys full time employment as a maintenance tradesman at a privately funded halfway-house. He is now loved, depended on, and respected by many as a leader in righteousness and steadfast living in the ex-con community. We are proud to host Kenny’s life story.
