EPISODE #6: This evening we have PART 1 of Dave Smith's Story. He is a 53 year old multi-offense felon from Phoenix, Arizona.

At the age of 10 Dave’s parents split leaving him with a chasm of unsupervised time, confusion with his family life, and a diminishing sense of value. 6 months later he began drinking which became a steady distraction and addiction. At the age of 14 his father found 3 kilo’s of methamphetamine on a bus which he brought home. Shortly after Dave discovered this new drug an exposure that he found an even more enhanced relief and distraction from his life.

Dave was incarcerated the first time at the age of 17. My friend has been in jail a total of 42 times, in Arizona state prison 3 times, with an accumulation of 13 various felonies. Long periods of his stay in prison were at various level 4 maximum security yards. He has spent the majority of his adult life of 20 years and 3 month behind bars.

Dave’s first wife of 10 years was murdered while he was in prison at the age of 33. Our guest this evening made several life changing decisions after he met his current and second wife in September of 2012. Just before this Dave was convicted of his last felony count. Dave and his wife Amy married in January of 2013 just before his sentencing in March of 2013. They maintained their expanding relationship, growing love, and both expanded into a life and goal of character and upright living throughout his 6 years 6 months sentence.

As we sit here today Brian and I are excited to bring you a new man, a free man of 2 years and 9 months. Dave also recently celebrated 10 years of sobriety from alcohol and drugs, an 8 year wedding anniversary with his beautiful wife, Amy who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. He also has a son who is a political science major with a 3.7 GPA studying at University of Denver.

Dave is now a proud leader in his family and skilled tradesman currently employed full time as a metal fabricator, welder, and mechanic at a large local trucking company.
