Today’s special guest on the podcast is not only a badass business woman and mama, she is also my dear friend and neighbor, Abbi Miller. Abbi and I met a few years ago when she moved in a block from us and as our kiddos quickly became friends, so did we! Our families live in close proximity and also share many similar values around how we choose to live, love and parent. I am so honored to have one of my favorite people on the podcast today as I sit down for an expansive and deeply nourishing conversation with Maryn Green with a focus on motherhood. Maryn is well-known as the co-owner of Indie Birth, where she shares her experiences and knowledge as a sacred midwife. She is also a mother to 10 magical beings, and a truly wise soul, bringing wisdom to this time that I believe is deeply needed.

In this episode, we get real with you, sharing current celebrations and challenges in our partnership. For some time we have had a regular (usually weekly) check-in with one another. In this episode, Bridgette shares about the most common signs and symptoms relating to not eating enough food or being under-nourished. It would shock most people to know that this is the most common root cause I see in my functional nutrition practice. Thanks to diet culture, we are constantly bombarded by messaging of eat less and move more, "eat clean", cut out this food to heal your body and people are more confused then ever on what to eat, how to eat and the best ways to nourish their bodies. Often this leads to a lack of proper nourishment and the effects over time can show up as hormonal imbalances and auto immune issues. I encourage everyone to listen to this episode, even if you feel that you have body fat to lose and especially if you are feeling tired, sluggish, inconsistent in your mood and having a hard time achieving your goals and showing up for your life despite how hard you try.

In this episode we share revelations and reflections from our 6-week camper van trip as we are integrating back into the routine of home life. Being on this grand adventure and away from the momentum of life in a certain way really had us tuning into the deep rhythms of slower living and nourishment in nature. Things were simpler, full of ease, and we noticed having a lot more space in our nervous systems. In the world we live in, how many distractions do we have and how many things are taking our time and energy? While some of these things are essential and nourishing, a lot of them are not. We share about ways to bridge the gap of the modern day lifestyle with slower, more intentional living to get the nourishment we are truly craving.

In this episode, Brittany shares about two impactful parenting experiences she had with her 5-year-old, Ilya. Both experiences felt great examples of tuning into what Ilya was feeling and reading how to honor his feelings, needs and energetic requests. In the first story, Ilya is wanting more space and in the second he is wanting more closeness. Both are essential nutrients for a child to feel honored, respected, and held at whatever stage of development they are navigating.

A few days before Ilya's 4th birthday, our breastfeeding journey together came to a close. It has been a month since and in today's podcast, I reflect on that transition, including a transition to stop nursing together at night (we co-sleep), and then a couple months later to stop nursing together entirely. I share about why I chose to make these shifts, what inspired them, how weaning has felt for me, and how I sense no longer "doing boob" has felt for Ilya.

It has taken me 34 years to learn what my child was born into this world knowing: how to eat intuitively. And honestly, I am so darn proud of myself! Coming from a lifetime of dieting and body image struggles, I didn’t think it was possible for me to have a loving relationship with my body and food. I am thrilled to be where I am today and I am excited to share my story with you.
Over the last few years I’ve received a lot of curiosities about my diet and if it has changed. The answer is yes. It has changed many times in many ways. And I trust that it will continue to evolve, as I do. Many of you started following me during my 7 years of eating a strictly plant-based / vegan diet, which is no longer a diet I follow. I asked you all to send all the questions you've had in, and I believe I address all the ones I have received in this podcast.

Rituals root us. Having solid, consistent, nurturing routines that we perform every day creates the rhythms we need for healthy development. We thrive when we have that ideal balance of certainty and uncertainty, routine and spontaneity. Most beings seem to be off balance, needing more routine than they have set up for themselves. Their systems are craving more regularity, more trust, more stability. With a healthy framework, we can flow and play with confidence.
Developing and nurturing regular morning and evening routines that are simple and effective for you and your children helps ensure you will be set up to thrive. When our systems have a certain amount of reliability, they can relax. Consistency and relaxation is especially essential for young, developing beings, and as their caregivers, we are the ones setting the tone of the day. We are the ones whose nervous systems they are syncing up with, learning from, and mirroring. By creating calm, present, loving energetic environment, we can offer our children a nurturing space for co-regulation.
In this episode, I share about Ilya’s bedtime rituals, now at 3 years old. I also share more abut the importance of having bedtime routines, both for child and for your yourself.

How we touch our children matters a lot. From the very first hands that are felt by a newborn child, to the loving embrace we share with them as adults, they are receiving powerful communication signals, information about their environment and caregivers, and gaining a sense of where they can feel safe and where they cannot. Whatever imprint of touch we offer a child during their early years becomes what the child is accustomed to, setting the stage for what they believe they deserve to both receive and give. We are wiring their bodies for loving intimacy through touch, either positively or not so positively. In this podcast, I share about powerful ways to form a loving touch-positive relationship with your child. We dive into checking in, consent, honoring a child’s space and reading the energy. We talk about common touch-based transitions that are often sped through or overlooked as intimate moments to be in loving connection with your child. And we share about celebration of touch with cuddles, massage, baby-wearing, and other inspired ways you and your child can play with a consent-based touch-positive connection. It is essential for our child’s survival for us to be in physical contact with them. And based on how we choose to touch and the messages we share through that physical connection, we either inhibit or allow their natural path of thriving. I am 8 weeks pregnant which is a dream come true and I'm feeling all of what you are feeling including the depression! Feeling like I'm not doing enough I'm actually craving some pretty bad food. I'm vegan and I'm sticking to it. But I'm struggling craving french fries and quick easy dinners! I'm allowing myself to have a little bit in order to just go with it. But it's at the same time I need to nourish!! I hope that the second trimester has become better for you! And I hope it is for me as well. They say that this passes. My favorite in the world.
