🟢 30 years ago this very month Fergus McCann swept into Celtic Park and secured the clubs very existence with an eleventh hour investment that would alter the course of Celtic’s history for ever. A move such as that however can’t be engineered by just one man and many figures played a key role in what eventually took place on that day back on the 4th of March 1994. 🍀 In this special new series by The Celtic Exchange we speak to some of those individuals as we bring you the inside stories of what unfolded during that incredible time in Celtic history. We’re covering the story from all angles and in Part 6 we speak to one of the most prominent figures from those times - and one of our most eagerly anticipated guests! Brian Dempsey was originally on Celtic's Board in 1990 but his spell was to be short lived before he then took his place amongst the "Rebel Consortium" - A group who fought for, and ultimately gained control of the club. just as it seems time was running out. Brian was renowned for his skills as an orator and as someone who could capture an audience in seconds. It was true 30 years ago, and it's still true now, as you're about to find out. 💪 The Battle To Save Celtic is a new mini-series by The Celtic Exchange marking 30 years since Fergus McCann's takeover of Celtic in March 1994 =================================================== All Celtic Exchange episodes are now available on YouTube📺 or wherever you get your podcasts🎧 📰 The Celtic Exchange Weekly ⌛ The Countdown To Kick-Off (Every Game) ⚽ The Final Whistle Show (Every Game) ➕ Additional Bonus Episodes 🔗 All additional content at https://thecelticexchange.com 🍀 More Podcasts | More Reaction | More Celtic Learn more about your ad choices. Celtic returned to the top of the table with Saturday's 3-1 win over St Johnstone and will remain there for the next couple of weeks at least with the postponement of Dundee v Rangers. Kyogo led the way v the Perth side and looks to be rediscovering his form at a crucial stage in the campaign. He was ably supported on the day by Nicolas Khun who put in another man of the match performance as he showed us just what he's capable. It's the international break now, but on our return we face three vital fixtures which could have a massive bearing on the destination of the Scottish Premiership trophy. As Brendan Rodgers says, this is where the fun starts! Join Tino, James & Joe on this very latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly. We’re covering the story from all angles and in Part 5 we speak to a man who had a front row seat for many of the incredible events that unfolded as the battle to save Celtic rumbled on. Hugh Keevins needs little introduction to anyone with even a passing knowledge of Scottish Football and in his role as a journalist and broadcaster at that time he was closer than most to the story of how Fergus McCann eventually swept to power. In a career spanning over 50 years and counting he describes it as the most exciting time of his journalistic career and in this latest episode you'll hear exactly why! 💪 The Battle To Save Celtic is a new mini-series by The Celtic Exchange marking 30 years since Fergus McCann's takeover of Celtic in March 1994 . =================================================== All Celtic Exchange episodes are now available on YouTube📺 or wherever you get your podcasts🎧 📰 The Celtic Exchange Weekly ⌛ The Countdown To Kick-Off (Every Game) ⚽ The Final Whistle Show (Every Game) ➕ Additional Bonus Episodes 🔗 All additional content at https://thecelticexchange.com 🍀 More Podcasts | More Reaction | More Celtic Learn more about your ad choices. Kyogo Furuhashi looked far more like himself at Celtic Park against St Johnstone as he inspired the Bhoys to another vital three points in the title race. His first half header opened the scoring before an assist for Khun at the start of the second half put Brendan Rodgers' side in control. The woodwork and a couple of offside calls prevented him from adding to his tally but he'll be pleased with his afternoon's work. We now head into the international break top of the pile (though having played a game extra) and can now re-set ahead of the run in - hopefully with the return of key players such as Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor. Celtic are back to league duty on Saturday and with it comes the chance to go top of the table if they can take all three points against St Johnstone. The Perth side have already taken a draw at Celtic Park this season and Brendan Rodgers will be out to ensure no repeat of that this time around. With Callum McGregor and Yang still out it remains to be seen of Cameron Carter-Vickers will be restored to the heart of the defence but one player who'll almost certainly start is last week's hat-trick hero, Daizen Maeda., More of the same from the Japanese star will do nicely! We’re covering the story from all angles and that's epitomised in Part 4 as we speak with Tom Grant, a Director on Celtic's "Old Board" from 1985 until the takeover in 1994, and a man who can tell the story of how it all unfolded from INSIDE the corridors of Celtic Park. Tom was one of the few individuals who retained a place in Fergus' new regime, having ultimately backed "the rebels" in those crucial final days and talks of the tumultuous few years that led to the '94 takeover. As part of the new look Celtic took on the role of Stadium Manager, playing a key part in delivering Fergus McCann's vision of the 60,000 all-seater stadium we see today. 🎙️🍀 Welcome to a new collection of recordings by The Celtic Exchange where we explore the tales of Celtic fans across the globe by speaking to Celtic Supporters Clubs near and far in the coming months. This week we spoke with a Scotsman, another Scotsman, and an Irishman, as Nick, Stevie and Neil from the Geneva CSC joined us to share their story. The Geneva CSC is one of the newer CSCs out there and sounds very much the place to be should you find yourself in and around that part of the world. Though less than a couple of years old they’ve already formed a special link up with the Kano Foundation to support the amazing work they do and it’s clearly a partnership that means a lot all involved.   🤝 If you enjoy this episode be sure to share it with your Celtic supporting friends as we continue to grow The Celtic Exchange across the globe! ========================================== ⚽ This series was inspired by "Football Without Fans" - the definitive guide to Celtic Supporters Clubs across the globe. Daizen Maeda continues to puzzle and delight in equal measure with the Japanese frontman grabbing his first hat-trick in the Hoops during Sunday’s Scottish Cup victory over Livingston. He was the man of the moment as Celtic took their place in the semi finals (eventually) where they’ll now face Aberdeen at Hampden Park. For Brendan Rodgers his perfect Scottish Cup record continues, having now won all 15 games he’s managed in the competition. Despite the win there was a notable absence in the heart of the Celtic side as both Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers missed out through injury. Whilst other have stepped up on occasion it’s clear just how important those two are in terms of the mindset and leadership they bring to proceedings. Let’s hope they – along with Yang and Reo Hatate – are back in action sooner rather than later. Join Tino, James & Joe on this very latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly. Daizen Maeda celebrated 100 appearances in a Celtic shirt by grabbing a hat-trick against Livingston to ensure the Bhoys take their place in the Scottish Cup semi-final. The 4-2 scoreline perhaps papers over the cracks of a less than convincing performance but in cup football it's all about taking your place in the next round, and that's exactly what Brendan Rodgers side have done. Kyogo rounded off the scoring in stoppage time to finally see off the Livi challenge as the manager maintains his perfect Scottish Cup record. Celtic will put the title race on the back burner this weekend as they get set to face Livingston in Sunday's Scottish Cup Quarter Final at Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers holds the incredible record of winning EVERY game he's managed in the competition and will be looking to extend that run against David Martindale's side. For the players a return to Hampden Park for the Semi Final is all the incentive they should need as they look to once again lift the famous old trophy. Celtic left Tynecastle on Sunday knowing they could possibly have done more on the day, but also with a niggling feeling that we were ultimately undone by some questionable VAR calls. Brendan Rodgers didn’t hold back after the game and simply said what we were all thinking in terms of how some of the key decisions were reached. We now await the SFA’s ruling on his comments. Elsewhere Mark Lawwell has stepped down as Head of Recruitment at Celtic after a difficult time in the role. The finer detail we may never know, but it’s one that hasn’t worked out and the club now have a key role to fill in his absence. Finally, this week mark’s 30 years to the day since Fergus McCann saved Celtic. We’ve marked the occasion with a special podcast mini-series and we also take some time to reflect on that tumultuous time in this week’s episode. Celtic travelled to Tynecastle today knowing a win would put us back of the Scottish Premiership table. However, a combination of puzzling VAR decisions, as well as our own failure to respond and adjust cost us all three points on a frustrating day in Edinburgh. Losing Yang on the 16th minute was the turning point of the game, and Hearts capitalised with a goal from the spot followed by a second from Lawrence Shankland. In terms of the title race it's as you were before the weekend and Celtic have to know dust themselves off quickly for the next challenge. Celtic knew just how important it was to follow on from the fightback against Motherwell with something notable against Dundee and that's exactly what they done on an explosive night at Celtic Park. CCV got the ball rolling after just 7 minutes and the Bhoys never looked back from there as they dismantled the Dens Park side. The Hoops had seven different scorers on a night where they showed just how good they can be. A big night overall but special mention to Academy youngster Daniel Kelly who played out the Celtic dream by scoring on his league debut for the club.
