Description

At a time when it already felt impossible for Celtic to make things worse, the club managed exactly that at the weekend - with a statement that truly has to be read to be believed.

Rather than accepting any responsibility for the summer’s transfer failings, Saturday night’s release instead pointed the finger elsewhere in a blatant attempt to deflect from the board’s own shortcomings - a move which has spectacularly backfired.

In response, several key supporters’ groups have now issued a vote of no confidence in the board, as the unrest continues to grow. The stand-off between the club and its fans shows no sign of easing, and the eventual outcome is far from clear.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers’ side - including the latest new signings - return to action against Kilmarnock on Sunday. Yet with the fallout from the statement still dominating the conversation, it feels like a long road between now and then before supporters can focus on the football again.

All eyes are now on the club’s next move, as they attempt to repair a crisis all of their own making.

🎙️ Join Tino, James, Paddy & Mif as they break it all down in the latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly.
