The Apprentice / The Wild Robot / BFI London Film Festival

If your film is your thing you are in the right place. Episode 35 of The Chronicle Film Podcast is here with The Apprentice and The WIld Robot reviews. The latest episode of the podcast Clotilde and Paul start the ball rolling with The Apprentice. Starring the Winter Soldier himself Sebastian Stan as a young Donald J Trump in 1970s and 1980's New York City. Meeting the one man who would change him, Roy Cohn (played by Jeremy Strong), teaching him to survive in the dark realms of ambition and power. We're not surprised Mr Trump tried to stop this movie being distributed unsuccessfully, does it strike a chord? Related Post: The Apprentice Review  Second and final review is Dreamworks Animation adventure The WIld Robot. Starring the voice of Luptia Nyong'o as  Rozzum unit 7134 aka Roz, who crash lands on uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings. Related Post: The Wild Robot Review Finally the 2024  BFI London Film Festival just ended and The Peoples Movies had a great festival this year. Speak No Evil and Lee

If it's movies you love your in the right place! In Episode 34 of The Chronicle Film Podcast, Clotilde and Paul review Speak No Evil and Lee. First film under the microscope is the English language remake of Danish psychological horror thriller Speak No Evil. Originally written and directed by brothers Christian and Mads Tafdrup (Christian onboard as an executive producer of the new version) All about a Danish family who befriend a Dutch family on holiday who invite the Danish family to an idyllic weekend in the Netherlands which slowly unravels into their worst nightmare.  In the new version it's an British family (James McAvoy, Aisling Franciosi) who invite London based American family (McKenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy) to their  old farmhouse in the West Country.  The question many will be asking, is this a a like for like remake or does  director James Watkins (Eden Lake, Woman In Black) twist original to deliver his own version? Our horror maestro Bradley Hadcroft watched the original 2022 version for us at Sundance Film Festival that year (not FrightFest as Paul mentions in the episode),  you can read his review here. Related Post: Film Review - Speak No Evil (2024) Second and final review for The Chronicle episode 34 is Ellen Kuras' Lee starring Kate Winslet. Some of you might wonder who Lee Miller is? She was considered one of pioneering female photographers, War photojournalists of World War 2 giving us some of the most iconic powerful images from the war. This film is a bit of a personal project for Kate Winslet who plays Lee, a one time fashion model for Vogue to become a photographer for the same magazine. She faced many barriers, she was a determined woman to get her way in life. Lee focuses on pre/World War 2 period of her life, the period she would meet her husband Roland Penrose (Alexander Skarsgard).  Related Post: Film Review - Lee (2024) Always show your support for  The Chronicle and The Peoples Movies with Buy Me A Coffee or at Paypal. The chat from The Chronicle film Podcast, continues with The Chronicle Take 2. In this bonus episode to Episode 32, I review Summer blockbuster Twisters. Five years later she is lured back into chasing storms thanks to an old face. When danger lurks, superstar storm chaser  Tyler Owens (Powell) is around, this drags Kate deep into the danger. 029 - Mothers Instinct & Civil War

Welcome back for another episode of The Chronicle, The official Podcast for The Peoples Movies. Paul and Clotilde are your hosts and if you love movies, your in the right place. For episode 029 we review Mothers Instinct and Civil War. First review we go back to 1960's American Suburbia with Mothers Instinct. Starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain who are neighbours, best friends, sons are like brothers. This starts like as if it was taken from the pages of a Douglas Sirk melodrama, things get dark when tragedy hits. Who is responsible? What If... is the great Fantasist's wet dream. What if something you would think of could happen did happen? Alex Garland's Civil War is one of those films now in UK and Irish cinemas. The United State now finds itself in it's second civil war and asks you, " what type of American are you?". Kirsten Dunst is veteran photojournalist Lee and mentor to Cailee Spaeney's Jesse as we follow the journalists making their way to Washington DC attempting to get the elusive interview. 028 - Monster & Robot Dreams

It's that time again, Podcast time with The Chronicle film Podcast. For Episode 028 Paul and Clotilde review Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster and Oscar nominated animation Robot Dreams. Who is the monster? The film stars Kore-eda regular Sakura Ando whom we last saw in Godzilla Minus One. She is a single mother  who knows something is wrong with her son who is acting strangely. When she learns, this is because of his school teacher, she confronts the school. We do see the film from three different perspectives: the mother, the son and the teacher. Who said Animation was just for kids? Who said it has to be gritty and violent? Watch the oscar nominated Robot Dreams directed by Pablo Berger, based on Sara Varon's graphic novel of the same name.
