Happy New Year to all our Podcast followers, The Chronicle is back with episode 025. Clotilde and Paul review two films Sofia Coppola's Priscilla and George Clooney's The Boys In The Boat.
The first episode for The Peoples Movies podcast for 2024 is Priscilla is the first film under the microscope. Released in UK cinemas on 1st January and soon to be released on MUBI. This film is based on 1985 memoir Elvis and Me written by Priscilla Presley and Sandra Harmon. Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) as Priscilla, Jacob Elordi (Euphoria, Saltburn) as Elvis Presley. When teenage Priscilla Beaulieu meets Elvis Presley at a party, the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Through Priscilla’s eyes It promises to show an unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.
The second and final film for review is George Clooney's The Boys In The Town. Starring Callum Turner, Joel Edgerton, Joe Rantz played by Callum Turner in the story of University of Washington rowing team who would take the challenge to represent their country at 1936 Berlin Olympics and win gold.
