As creatives and artists, we’re sometimes made to feel like we have so many rules to follow in order to be respected by other people. We’ve all heard the narrative of the starving artist - and it seems to me as though if you make money doing what you love, you’re seen as a sellout or “not a true artist” and that you should be living paycheck to paycheck, waiting for your big break. This is such a toxic mindset and truly does not allow you to live your best creative life, when you are so concerned about making enough money each month to make ends meet. In this episode, I’m going into why I think strengthening your money mindset and opening yourself up to multiple streams of income is so important in order to be as creative and aligned as possible. When you aren’t worrying about where your next meal is coming from, you can wait for those big projects that really light you up and excite you, allowing you to do anything you want in life, from traveling the world, raising a family - the choice is yours. Dive into today’s episode if you still believe that you can’t make money doing what you love!   In this episode, I’m chatting about: Money mindset and how to open yourself up to more money The way that social media has changed business for creatives Journal prompts for helping you choose another income stream Why creatives need to allow themselves space to do the things that light them up   Episode Breakdown [00:49] The narrative around making money as an artist [02:36] Our ticket to freedom [04:02] The renaissance moment of online business [05:58] How to decide on another income stream [07:12] The way that creatives feel about their careers [11:59] Why we need multiple streams of income   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook
In today’s digital age, social media has really brought us all together, allowing so many people to work remotely with businesses around the globe. Things have come a long way from the MySpace days, though, and now there’s this pressure to share engaging posts, be in constant content creation mode, and also deal with the embarrassment that might be felt over not knowing who’s really seeing your posts! For many business owners, social media is just another task on their to-do list and no longer feels fun any more, and that's why outsourcing content creation can be a game changer. However, there are a ton of questions that you might have about outsourcing social media, like I did before I hired my social team, so that's what we're diving into on today's podcast. I've brought on my social media managers, Sarah Bogart and Lindsay Marchand from Bound Social, to chat all about it.  Sarah started Bound Social after a handful of social media internships when she realized there was a whole market of business owners who lacked the time, knowledge and strategies to confidently market their own business on social media. Lindsay joined Bound Social as a social media coordinator after connecting with Sarah and they both realized that working together would be a good move for the company. Bound Social has now worked with over 20 businesses in a variety of industries - from health and fitness, to food and beverage, to interior design. They pride themselves in their ability to step into the minds of business owners to authentically convey their brand, while applying tried-and-true social media strategies to grow their online presence.   In this episode, we’re chatting about:  How my guests, Sarah and Lindsay, got into Bound Social Why embarrassment over posting on social media can hold back a lot of business owners How to use your past posts to create a social media strategy The reasons people find it so hard to stay consistent with posting on social media Why in 2024 we’re expecting to see a lot less direct, pushy sales on Instagram   Episode Breakdown [00:52] Why creative people are drawn to running their own businesses [06:27] Scaling your business and stepping out of your own way [12:38] The main reason people want social media support [19:28] Advice for people who are struggling to take social media seriously [24:00] Getting over embarrassment when posting about your business on social media [33:55] Creating your own social media strategy [40:14] Tips for staying consistent on social media but avoiding burnout [46:42] 2024 social media trend predictions & de-influencing [55:27] Being careful about what you believe on social media   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook   Connect with Bound Social: Check out their website Follow Bound Social on Instagram Connect with Bound Social on Facebook
In this first episode back after the festive period, I’m going deep into why I LOVE inner child’s work! Doing this work has allowed me to live a much more authentically aligned life as I’ve managed to work through blocks that I’ve had since childhood. For many of us, our creativity can sometimes feel as though it’s been shut down and this stems from when we often got in trouble if we were messy with our art at the kitchen table, or drew on a wall thinking it was a canvas and we began to associate being creative with getting in trouble. We’re hardwired to want to fit in with our group and make the people we look up to happy, like our parents, teachers and friends, and this eventually leads us to adopting lots of beliefs that don’t serve us as adults.  For me, a lot of my inner child beliefs were around the far-too-common idea that creative pursuits can’t be careers. Since I squashed that belief, my career has completely taken off and as you know, I love photography and running my own business! If I had held myself back based on this block, I probably wouldn’t have gotten into photography and had my life changed by it. That’s why I’m recording this episode, so I can help you to begin to do inner child’s work and start to shift your childhood beliefs.   In this episode, I’m diving into: Why inner child’s work has been so important to me How doing this work can allow you to remove blocks and develop yourself The ways in which our beliefs influence us as we become adults My favorite ways to do inner child’s work   Episode Breakdown [01:14] What is inner child’s work? [04:05] Evaluating all of your beliefs [07:06] Taking part in what you enjoyed doing as a child [08:55] The reason for doing inner child’s work [14:55] Why I started doing inner child healing [16:30] Writing down the tiny things that made you happy today   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook
Wow, it’s been a busy few months! I’ve been all over the place and although I had an amazing time (which I’ll be catching you up on in this episode!) I’m so glad to be back home and in my normal routine again. While I was away, the anxiety monster definitely reared its ugly head, and this time I took the opportunity to really journal on how I was feeling in an attempt to pep myself up each day. I knew that my anxiety definitely wasn’t caused by any one person or situation in particular on any of my trips, but was a combination of feeling like I couldn’t show up as my true self, comparing myself to others and a really disappointing situation with my camera!! This journaling led to some thoughts coming out that I wanted to share with you, hence today’s episode! We’re covering all sorts, like comfort zones, comparison and why I think that we can all always learn from each other - no matter who is “further along” or “knows more”!   In this episode, I’m diving into: Where I’ve been for the past few months A candid chat about the anxiety I felt in recent situations Why you can always learn from others and they can always learn from you Getting comfortable with being outside your comfort zone   Episode Breakdown [00:49] My recent collaborations [02:55] My experience with anxiety [05:34] What journaling brought up for me [08:42] Why you always have something to bring to the table [10:11] It’s okay to feel uncomfortable [15:39] A reframe for anxiety [20:43] Collaboration, not competition   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook
Human design is something that kept cropping up for me and I finally decided to dive into it fully a few months ago when I began working with today’s guest, Sam Nelson. I have been absolutely amazed (I even cry on my calls with Sam!) at how human design makes me feel so understood and allows me to live my life in such an authentic, aligned way. If you keep seeing the phrase “human design” floating around, and you’re wondering what on earth it even is, today’s episode is going to give you great insight as to why you need to start learning more about it - today! Joining me for today’s interview is Sam Nelson, a certified Life and Health Coach, owner of Human Aligned, and she reads human design and facilitates breathwork. Sam believes that in seeing people and allowing them to share their experience it brings us all to life, allows us to leave behind the idea of doing more as the only gateway to having and being more and allows us to focus on who we need to become instead of what we need to do. Sam thrives on seeing other people claim their rightful place at the center of their own world, dismantling and re-writing the rules that have been built to keep us dependent on someone or something other than our highest self. In the episode we discuss all the ways in which human design can begin to seep into your life, helping you to make every decision in the right way and allow you to begin to understand others, too. It’s a really special conversation with someone I’ve been working closely with and I can’t wait for you to listen in!   In this episode, Sam and I are diving into:  What human design actually is The way in which human design can facilitate massive personal growth How human design is so different from all the other personality tests Using your human design knowledge to live your life in the most authentic way   Episode Breakdown [00:59] How today’s guest, Sam, got into human design & doing readings [04:53] What even is human design? [08:19] How human design can open up floodgates for you [19:58] The ways human design varies compared to all other personality tests [29:34] Picking up on other peoples’ auras [37:36] Why it’s important to know what your human design is [56:36] What to do if you’re on the fence about human design   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook Follow Sam on Instagram Check Out Sam’s Website Sam’s Linktree with All the Ways to Work Together

On paper, social media is the ideal place for gaining creative inspiration, connecting with others and showing off our work. However, as many of us know - it often doesn’t end up that way! We spend far too long looking at other peoples’ content, trying to create as much as possible of our own, chasing trends to go viral and end up burned out, hating social media and totally exhausted of the process of trying to market our businesses. This is what happened to me a few months ago, and so I ended up taking a social media hiatus. I was feeling this constant pressure to produce content in order to remain visible and grow my following, even though that had never been a huge concern of mine. I realized that I hadn’t narrowed down why I was using Instagram and coming up with a strategy around that. This was really the most important piece of the puzzle for me! Now that I’m back on Instagram, I’ve outsourced my strategy and it has done wonders for my mental health. We might be creatives, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re experts in marketing ourselves and our businesses. So, today’s episode is that permission slip for you to take what you need regarding social media - is it a total break, and a chance to gain inspiration from other places? Is it outsourcing your Instagram to someone who can handle it better than you can? Or do you just need to scale back how much content you’re consuming? Any or all of these are okay! To listen to my thoughts about social media in more detail, jump into today’s episode.    In this episode, I’m diving into:  The reason I took a break from social media Discovering why you’re on Instagram and coming up with an actual strategy Why over-consumption of content and trying to keep up with others can lead to burnout How I’ve successfully outsourced my social media strategy   Episode Breakdown [01:25] My social media hiatus [02:59] Discovering why you’re using Instagram [07:07] The epidemic of burnout [11:06] Comparing your posts to others [15:39] Outsourcing your social media strategy   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook

Even if you’re new to the business world, or are just getting ideas for starting your own company, this episode is sure to inspire you and give you a few nuggets you can lock away for when the day comes that you’re overwhelmed with client work! Our guest today used to have 12 retainer clients and four projects at once, working 10-to-12 hour days and now her team handles all of that - so she really knows what she’s talking about!  Today’s guest is Molly Nutt, CEO of Acorn Digital Strategy, a copywriting and email marketing studio for woman-owned wellness and lifestyle brands. She loves connecting wellness and lifestyle brands with their target audience through intentional copywriting and email marketing. Molly’s aim is to help businesses tell their stories in ways that genuinely connect with their target audience - and make their wallets fatter in the process. Us artists and creatives are often unfairly labeled with stereotypes - we might be seen as party animals, having really high highs and really low lows, totally unable to hit deadlines, we’re difficult to work with or even that we’ve had big dramatic events in our lives that led to emotional turmoil! Quite honestly, I’m so over this. We’re talented and smart - we just have different gifts to engineers, doctors or lawyers! The truth is though, when it comes to business, sometimes we accidentally take on the labels that we’re given. We might not hold ourselves strictly accountable to deadlines if we think that a client isn’t expecting us to, anyway. We might have a messy business back-end because we know that that’s not where our strengths lie. This is one of the reasons why I wanted to start my podcast - there is no reason we can’t be incredible business owners with an amazing client experience. It’s no longer enough to just be good at what you do, we need to go the extra mile, make our clients feel supported and in the loop at all times, and be that on-top-of-it-all CEO you deep down know you can be! In today’s episode, I’m giving you a little taster of what’s to come in future episodes, so make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss any!   In this episode, I’m chatting about: The stereotypes and labels given to artists and creatives How we might subconsciously accept those labels Structuring your business so that it supports you to show up more professionally Why it’s no longer enough to just be a standout creative Creating different revenue streams in business   Episode Breakdown [01:16] What I’m going into in today’s episode [03:40] The stereotypes of being a creative or artist in today’s world [11:56] Building an amazing, streamlined, thriving creative business [17:57] Why you need to be business-led in the creative industry   My Links & Resources Check out my website Follow me on Instagram Connect with me on Facebook
I can’t believe it’s finally here… The Creative Drift Podcast! This has been in the works for a while now and I’m SO excited to kick things off with this first ever episode. If you are a creative person, you can probably relate to my story through college and beyond. I had no idea what I wanted to do for a living - I thought I wanted to be a doctor and do Doctors Without Borders, before I remembered the sight of blood makes me faint 😂 I loved being at college but once I was released into the big wide world I felt so directionless and lost. This is definitely a common theme for us creatives and artists, as we’re often made to feel as though our talents should just be a hobby, and not a career - this is going to be a BIG part of the podcast going forward, so you can look forward to being surrounded by like minded people when you plug in your headphones! You can tune into the episode to find out how I landed in photography, but it’s safe to say that I’ve really found my calling. I love what I do, I love my business and I’m sure I’m going to love this podcast, too. I’ve got some amazing, badass business owners lined up as guests who are going to inspire you to go and do all those things you’ve always been told you couldn’t do. We’re going to challenge those social constructs, discuss business strategy, marketing, finance and so much more, to get you confident that you really can run a business in a way that makes YOU happy. So, grab a coffee, buckle up - and let’s jump into the first episode of The Creative Drift.   In this episode, I’m diving into:  My experience at college and trying to find fulfilling, meaningful work How photography kept coming up for me and so I took the plunge and jumped into it Why I set up my creative agency, Drift Creative Co and the type of work we do for our clients The new podcast, The Creative Drift and all the exciting things we have coming up for you to listen to!   Episode Breakdown [00:50] Introduction to The Creative Drift!
