In episode #39 we are hearing the power of going gray with your hair with Lisa, from This Organic Girl.  Lisa is the face behind the blog, This Organic Girl.  Where she blogs about all things clean living, natural beauty and healthy eats.  For the last two years she's taken her readers on the ups and downs of going gray and what sparked the whole journey in the first place. She went all in with green living just a few years ago. It was the cumulation of a couple of things that happened which brought her into “her awareness” as she calls it.  She started wondering what the hype was with “organics” and if it was really a thing or just another sales tactic. Her mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor for the fourth time, her little one was suffering from Eczema and then one day her friend Angela said to her, “Did you know they wash chickens in chlorine?” Pretty much from that moment on Lisa was on a quest to know and went hardcore all-in.  She went crazy turning over all of her products including toothpaste, deodorant and Tupperware containers.  She threw out the kids fluoride and hydrocortisone cream. Out went the Clorox wipes and the stainless steel cleaner. Dryer sheets were a thing of the past. Forget refined sugars – they didn’t even stand a chance.  She started making my own toothpaste and makeup, she didn’t eat out, she wouldn’t even look at processed or refined food. Vinegar became my best friend. Those were the dark days…. Then after some time and some serious label reading, She realized she could actually rejoin society and still make safe decisions for her family.  Everyday more organic options, healthy restaurants, products, food stores and resources are becoming available.  Not only is Lisa passionate about spreading the message but also enjoying living out her best natural life.  After all nontoxic living is anything but boring! Sarah is an ER Doctor turned soap maker.  After almost ten years of practice, she became unsettled about the course of her career. She liked the work, and was good at it. But the practice of emergency medicine was not what she thought it would be. The paperwork. The dictations. The constant hum of worry in her brain about the existence of human error - that she could miss something with a potentially devastating result. And there was the upsetting fact that many of the patients she cared for had absolutely no interest in contributing to their own health. She leased a commercial space in Carbondale, Colorado.  She put together a green facility with a small retail space, a soap making area, a perfumery station, and two “clean rooms” (clean room attire required) for making skin care products. She launched the store and the website in April of 2012. This is where she operates today. She loves what she does now more than she could have ever have imagined.  She does miss a few things about being in the ER, but, in some ways, feels like she is practicing a broader medicine now - helping people choose natural and organic skin care products, encouraging them to nourish themselves physically and spiritually, and detoxifying their medicine cabinets all the while. Guiding people to make healthier choices for their skin, their bodies, their minds, and this beautiful planet seems like a brand of medicine that could really do some good. So I really want to talk all things essential oils with you and share with the audience some tips.  First can you share what the name Osmia means and how it really is the essence of your company? (I can just hear you saying.."Return To Your Senses") 4.  I love how you have whole blog posts on your site dedicated to one essential oil and it's benefits. You paint such a clear picture of the oil and even what it takes to make it. What are some common misconceptions you find people believe about essential oils that aren't true, or things you wished they knew? 5. When differentiating between essential oil fragrance and synthetic fragrance what are the main differences someone should understand? Is there anything specific on a label? 6.  Can you share about the power of essential oil quality and sourcing?  Is there a difference- should we be looking for organic? 7. Often you hear of people taking essential oils internally- what is your take on this and is it safe? 8. Can you share your top 3 essential oils and how you incorporate them into your life?  9. In episode #34 we are diving deep into what you should know when vaccinating your child.  This is actually an episode I recorded with Dr. Ben Lynch a couple years ago when I had the Gurl Gone Green Podcast.  I'm bringing it up again because the topic of vaccines is a hot one and not going anywhere, but also because this interview isn't a do this or do that interview but one to inform the consumer.   Dr. Lynch has experienced the effects of vaccines first hand in patients and has interviewed some of the leading doctors and researchers on vaccines.  This isn’t meant to be an anti-vaccine podcast but an educational podcast.  The goal is to arm you as a parent or guardian with the information to make an informed choice for you and your family.  Often vaccines are treated as a cookie cutter approach for everyone, but unfortunately every body is different.  In this podcast, Dr. Lynch and I discuss vaccines that should be avoided considering the research, events that put children at risk for developing autism or spectrum disorders post vaccination, if those with MTHFR should avoid vaccinations, what HERD Immunity is and SO much more.  You don’t want to miss this podcast!  It’s packed full of relevant information.  Plus, Dr. Lynch shares his top resources for further education on vaccines. Dr. Ben Lynch received his Cell and Molecular Biology, BS from the University of Washington and his ND from Bastyr University. His passion for identifying the cause of disease directed him towards nutrigenomics and methylation dysfunction. Currently, he researches, writes and presents worldwide on the topic of MTHFR and methylation defects. You may learn more about Dr Lynch and his work at www.MTHFR.net. Dr Lynch is also the President & CEO of Seeking Health, a company oriented towards disease prevention and health promotion. In episode #31 we are learning how to heal PCOS holistically with Kate Kordsmeier.  For nearly a decade, Kate was a full-time freelance food and travel writer and recipe developer–you can find her work in over 125 magazines, newspapers and websites, including USA Today, EatingWell, Cooking Light, Travel + Leisure, Shape, FITNESS, Women’s Health, The Washington Post, Clean Eating, Vegetarian Times, Wine Enthusiast, SELF and Real Simple. In October 2015, after being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Leaky Gut Syndrome (IBS), and hypothyroidism, and subsequently healing her symptoms naturally, she created Root + Revel. Though she's a food writer—it’s literally her job to eat and report on the world’s most delicious foods—and a food lover, who believes strongly that life is not worth living without fried chicken, cheese and wine, she's also seen firsthand the power of nutrition and how much the food we eat affects the way we feel. After her diagnosis, she was blown away by the rapid transformation she saw in her own body from simple, natural and holistic lifestyle changes. Truly, the food she ate and the natural products she used (and the toxic products she tossed!) have helped her live a near symptom-free life.  You can learn more about her diagnosis, 80-20 lifestyle and how she strikes the balance between eating well and feeling well here. In episode #22 we are learning how to naturally heal acne with Marissa Gossett.  Marissa is an acne-overcomer, skin therapist, indie wellness researcher, and champion-of-women dedicated to helping you achieve the skin of your dreams!  She's born-and-raised a Southern California girl with nothing more than a few unpopular ideas and an Instagram account, she proudly created a new way to see skin imbalances so that women can stop dreading their faces and start living wholeheartedly. Beginning skin coaching with only a few desperate/courageous women (who found her on Instgram though hashtags!), she now receive multiple breakthroughskin pictures weekly! She wants women, like you, to see their skin in a whole new light and find their holy grail regimen and lifestyle habits that reveal their skin’s most glowing potential. One of the things she's often asked is “What are you going to tell me my dermatologist, esthetician, and the internet hasn’t told me?”  For as long as she can remember, she's always been curious about the mysteries of human wellness, especially in regards to skin, because that has been where she's struggled. Why do some women live unhealthy lives and manage to have zero breakouts? Why do others live very healthily and struggle with lifelong acne? The answer: modern skin treatment removes and destroys, yet true skin treatment feeds and nourishes.  She believes that no matter where you are on your skin journey, it’s ultimately up to you to change your skin.  Clear skin gives you the freedom to be the truest version of yourself.
