What GIRLS Need & What They Want
Our girls are bombarded by negative messages from the magazines they simply see on the shelves at the grocery store to the labels on the food they eat. This makes them think they have to be skinnier, prettier and sexier. While raising her daughter, who is now 16, Dana Wendt realized most food products for women, which teenaged girls see their mothers eat and want to emulate, reinforce the negative messages with weight management names and taglines. Can you believe 80 percent of 10-year-old girls are on a diet? A diet! Before their bodies have even hit puberty. And, by the time they become teenagers, more than half are unhappy with their bodies. That number increases to more than three-quarters by the time they are 18. These statistics, combined with Dana's experience, forced her to take a look at the industry and figure out how we can change the message. It became a call-to-action to create a great snack line for girls that ditches the crappy messages and crappy ingredients and instead reminds girls that they are amazing. That they have JOUZGE. Tonight, parents and teens will have the opportunity to learn valuable tools that will empower and inspire all girls to activate their Power To The Girl!
Meet Dana Wendt ~ CEO of Golden Family Company and Founder of JOUZGE. I am here because of a passion to remind my daughter and all girls that they are amazing; that they have JOUZGE.
Meet Becca Moore ~ Education Expert in Massillon, Ohio & Director of Education for Non-Profit Organization Girls Above Society. Becca's genuine voice empowers parents & girls to rise above the negatives teens face in today's society.
Liz Marks was a popular all american high school girl who was addicted to her smartphone. She knew not to text and drive but Liz says "Everyone does it." As she was driving she received a text from her mom and in that moment her life changed forever.
The accident left Liz blind in one eye and hard of hearing. It also left her with a diminished sense of smell and she is no longer able to create tears or fall asleep without medication. She says the most difficult part of all of it, was going from being very social and popular to being alone, without friends. Liz will be sharing her story as well as her mission of inspiring teens to put down their phones while behind the wheel. Also joining the conversation is Diana Graber, co-founder of CyberWise. Diana's expertise will help parents understand how to instill positive habits for their teens. CyberWise is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art resources for BUSY grownups who want to understand how to use digital media confidently and safely. Show your support for Liz at https://www.facebook.com/donttextndrive4lizmarks?fref=ts and for additional cyber resources visit CyberWise at http://www.cyberwise.org
Kaylin Stewart is a high school sophomore making a film about the the very few lady Land Speed Racing record holders... and her attempt to join them later this summer. She grew up on the Salt Flats of Bonneville, Utah watching people (including her Dad) drive cars over 200MPH and as she got older she noticed there were very few women drivers. In fact of the roughly 750 people in the exclusive 200MPH Club, only 23 are women.
As more glass ceilings are broken, more girls are realizing that they can do whatever they set their minds to. By making this film, Kaylin wants to honor the women who inspired and paved the way for her by telling their stories. In doing so, she hopes to inspire future generations.

Nickolay Lamm
“As a digital artist who majored in marketing at the University of Pittsburgh, he comes up with a provocative idea or question, studies it, and then provides Internet aggregators [...] with visual content that they post on their sites. Those images in turn get picked up on media websites, spurring commentary [...] and gets the aggregators a mention.” – Pittsburgh Post Gazette
“I think my main value comes not from my graphic-design skills, but my thinking about an idea that will get media attention — and something that I care about — and executing my vision to get a cool visual.” – Pittsburgh Tribune Review
“I think he’s being responsible — he’s not making anything up here,” says Dr. Doug Harper, a professor specializing in visual sociology at Duquesne University. “He’s finding ways to present information — visual summaries, really. It’s at the immediate level.” – Pittsburgh Tribune Review
People often ask me, “How do you make something go viral?”
I never try to make something viral for the sake of going viral, which is a very ambiguous term anyways. I try to make visuals which point out things which I feel are overlooked. Virality is just a side effect.
I come up with a unique visual idea and work with artists and experts to bring my vision to life.
I do lots of research. With each project, I say something new or elaborate on a subject in a way that’s never been done before. I consult with recognized professionals or use existing data. I direct each project through the whole process, working with talented artists to create flawless visuals.
One of my biggest inspirations is Steve Jobs. I encourage everyone to see the “Secrets of Life,” a short Steve Jobs interview.
Heroes are those who are admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Tonights interview introduces you to Cincinnati's finest mentor and hero, Barrett Cohen. Lindsay Bottos-Sewell
Lindsay is a 21 year old senior at the Maryland Institute College of Art // photography major, book arts concentrator, gender studies minor, with a focus in fiber arts.
Lindsay's Tumblr Selfie posts caused outrageous, hateful comments from other Tumblr users. An Art Project that turned into hate fueled Lindsay to share an articstic approach to the ever flowing stinging words.
Quote from Lindsay ~
"I get tons of anonymous messages like this every day and while this isn’t unique to women, the content of the messages and the frequency in which I get them are definitely related to my gender. I almost exclusively get them after I post selfies. The authority people feel they have to share their opinion on my appearance is something myself and many other girls online deal with daily."

Writer, Youth Advocate, Mentor, and Life Coach, Joshua Stern is dedicated and committed to improving the lives of as many At-Risk & Homeless Youth as possible. The Josh Project is an organization that has been setup to help enable these goals and to help bring Marion’s Place (See Heading on Website) to fruition. At The Josh Project we hope to create more awareness, assist with prevention, and finally, initiate change for current and potential At-Risk Youth.
The main focus of The Josh Project is to combat the many hurdles today’s youth inevitably encounter. As well as shed some light on societies immediate willingness to accept that these kids are suffering from a mental disorder and in turn instantly put them on prescription drugs, or toss them to the side and label them as outcasts or “bad seeds”. Without the proper medical evidence to back up such claims, nobody should be diagnosed or dismissed so simply. We believe it’s this attitude that creates a world where teen suicide is continuing to grow at alarming rates. Nobody should be too afraid to admit that we all struggle with life sometimes, and nobody should be made to feel that his or her emotions are insignificant or unimportant, no matter the age or situation.
