Our guest in the Circle is one of my brilliant mentors, Pamela Sutton-Wallace.Guest IntroIn January 2020, Pamela Sutton-Wallace joined New York Presbyterian Hospital to serve as Senior Vice President and Regional Chief Operating Officer for the Brooklyn and Queens markets.  In this capacity, she works to actualize the strategic vision of providing the highest quality inpatient and outpatient services in both of these markets. She also leads the NYP Medical Group comprised of faculty from Weill Cornell and Columbia University as well as employed physicians serving several geographically dispersed regions. Prior to her appointment at NYP, Pamela served as the Chief Executive Officer for the University of Virginia (UVA) Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia from 2014-2020.  During the last 6 months of her tenure, she also served as the Acting Executive Vice President for Health Affairs for UVA Health.  Overseeing a $2.2B revenue budget, she led UVA Health in achieving numerous accomplishments in the domains of quality, safety, patient experience, team member engagement and financial performance.  Ranked as the #1 hospital in Virginia by US News & World Report for four consecutive years, the medical center has received several national designations and recognitions under Pam’s leadership.   Prior to joining UVA, Pam served as Senior Vice President for Hospital Operations of Duke University Hospital in Durham North Carolina.  During her 17 year tenure at Duke, she served in several leadership positions including:  Chief Operating Officer for Ambulatory Services, Vice President for Perioperative Services and Chief of Staff for the Chancellor for Health Affairs.  In addition to her tenure with Duke University Health System, Pam has a diverse health care background with experience in the pharmaceutical and insurance industries with Pfizer and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of North Carolina, respectively.Pam received her undergraduate degree in Political Science and African-American Studies from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  She later graduated from Yale University with a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, completing her thesis with distinction.   A nationally recognized speaker, Pam has received several recent accolades:·         Modern Healthcare’s “Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare 2019”·         Modern Healthcare’s “Top 25 Minority Health Executives in Healthcare 2018” and “Top 10 Minorities to Watch 2016”·         Becker’s Hospital Review, Top 50 African-Americans in Healthcare 2019 and 2018·         Association of Yale Alumni in Public Health on the Winslow Centennial Honor Roll for Excellence and Service 2016·         BlackDoctor.org award recipient of “Top Blacks in Healthcare”·         Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the Top 10 Women in Healthcare Pam is married to Maurice O. Webb, MD, MBA is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine practicing at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine. Leigh-Ann completed her BS.Ed in Sports Medicine at UVA in 2005 and her Medical Degree at UVA in 2009. She completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Chicago in 2012 where she served as Chief Resident of International Transport and received awards for Humanism and the 2012 Resident of the Year award. After residency, she went on to serve thousands of patients at various academic institutions: Wake Forest, New York Presbyterian- Columbia University Medical Center, University of Maryland, and now UVA. Last year she completed her MBA at UVA's Darden School of Business and was recognized as one of the "2019 Best and Brightest EMBAs" by Poets and Quants. As a medical educator, she teaches medical students how to listen and examine patients from their first weeks as medical students through the fourth year. She on the teaching team for the Medical Design Thinking Program. She marries her love of empathy, innovation, and action by serving on the Emergency Medicine Research Office's Data Action Team where she helps link data to actionable operations that make a difference in patient outcomes. She founded The Get-Well Company in 2019 as a way to help others use empathy, innovation and collective action to promote equity and revolutionize the illness experience.Dr. Ebony Jade Hilton is a practicing physician and associate professor at the University of Virginia - Charlottesville. As a young girl in Little Africa, South Carolina, Ebony Jade Hilton declared at age 8 that she wanted to become a doctor. From that day on, her mother called her Dr. Hilton. Today, she is a doctor and professor of anesthesiology, the medical director of a consultancy, an author and a lifelong advocate of America’s underserved and marginalized communities. Dr. Hilton earned her M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in 2008, after graduating magna cum laude from the College of Charleston with a triple major in biochemistry, molecular biology and inorganic chemistry. She completed her anesthesiology residency at MUSC, and was awarded a fellowship in critical care medicine at the university. In 2013, she made history, becoming the first African American female anesthesiologist at MUSC since its opening in 1824. As the medical director of Goodstock Consulting, she works with companies to address local social issues that affect community health, such as education, transportation, food insecurity and housing.
