Breaking Wind... of Winter (Sp29)
On the eve of the release of... like... the 3rd major A Song of Ice and Fire publication since A Dance With Dragons that isn't titled "The Winds of Winter," #TPTWP find themselves struggling to identify a strange and uncomfortable feeling that overwhelms their Royal Persons re:ASoIaF. The Promised Princes sought out mental health professionals for help, and they did their own Royal Research into "Human Feelings" and "Human Emotions," so as to identify what this feeling was. The conclusion that the Royal Research and the Royal Mental Health Professionals both came to was that John and SeannieWan were no longer feeling Angry and/or Frustrated each time The Winds of Winter came to their Royal Minds, but instead they were suddenly and inexplicably feeling a feeling that most commonfolk call "Hope."Hope had never been a feeling that #TPTWP associated with The Winds of Winter... or George R. R. Martin... or A Song of Ice and Fire. Ergo... What gives???WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...John and SeannieWan discuss the very real possibility that their trolling of #GRRM may have been unnecessary and misinformed, albeit briefly is the adverb to describe the speed of their disussing, and brief is the discussion which they briefly discuss. Has HBO been the real reason/motivation behind the inconceivably long wait for Volume 6 of ASoIaF since the release of Volume 5? Has there actually been a reason for the wait all along other than The Great Procrastinator doing what he does best- Procrastinating? It's not TV... It's HBO*, but is it also why this professional writer has been unable to finish a professional project in nearly 8 years? If so, is it possible that #GRRM has been one step ahead of us the whole time? Not likely... probably not... but maybe... but most likely probably not...In the biggest twist in all of non-fiction since the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, John does what the pro-wrestling fans "in the know" would call a "Face turn," and finds himself siding with The Great Procrastinator. In addition to all the "Hope" that The Promised Princes are feeling and discussing, John and SeannieWan put the pedal to the metal and discuss The Winds of Winter as though it were the ASoIaF being released next week instead of Fire and Blood. The Wardens of Long Island doth engage in a top-notch, professional-level-conversating conversation re:The Winds of Winter, and thus catch themselves up on the ASoIaF characters and storylines that will surely make up the narrative of The Winds of Winter. They also theorize as to where the narrative will go and how the cliffhangers of A Dance With Dragons will be resolved."Really really good stuff this episode!" - George R. R. Marlin (editor of Wild Cars)"#TPTWP have really done it this time!" - George R. R. Martington (author of The Gang of Throngs)"...truly this is a podcast... not... bad... good!"- Eli O. (content editor for Westernbros.org)Head's up! Possible SPOILERS for non-ASoIaF properties...7:30:00 - Possible spoilers for 'Avengers 4,' though highly unlikely.14:10:00 - Possible spoilers for 'Star Wars Episode IX,' though probably not.The tweet that began the hype which led to hope...Shortly before this episode was made available, news of Stan Lee's death at 95 years-old broke on every major news outlet. To say that Stan Lee and his imagination directly molded our preference and enjoyment in and of fiction would not be nearly enough to do justice to his imagination and his influence. To say that our own creativity is what it is because of those properties and ideas that Stan Lee created would be a shade of what should be said to honor how true that is. To say that the work Stan Lee did, along with the work he procured, developed, and distributed, has become or was the basis for all quality fictional media entertainment in 2018 and is truly enjoyed by millions and millions of people around the world would only scratch the surface of the legacy that he leaves behind...Excelsior!The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. A Freaky Doctor, Record Emmy Wins, and Scary Spoilers... Maybe... (Sp28)
The Final Episodes of HBO's Game of Thrones feel like they arbe years away. The Royal Wait is growing worse than the wait for Season 6B of The Sopranos, but it beats waiting around for the "Book" that What's-His-Name claims to be writing (montly #GRRM-bashing quota met!).The Royal Mantra is to enjoy the wait for Season 8 because once it arrives, the series will be over before The Royal Realization comes. Essentially, this is the sweet spot- the time to feel good that The Final Episodes are in post-production and the only thing keeping them from The Royal Television is the time that will be filled with speculation and Royal Excitement...But what if there was a huge spoiler that has been whispered upon the lips of Redditors and YouTubers since the Season 7 finale aired? Wouldst tho open Pandora's Box?WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...John and SeannieWan temp fate and expose themselves to the huge POSSIBLE spoiler... maybe. John can't help himself and has been spoiling himself since the early 2000's. SeannieWan has a bit more self-control but can't pass an opportunity to have an edge in knowledge on non-book-readers.Before #TPTWP get themselves stuck in the spoiler-y muck and mud, they take a look at the phenomenal victories that HBO, David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and the Game of Thrones production had at the 2018 Emmy Awards. Was The American Tolkien at the Emmys? Did he get a statue to take home to further distract him from the task at hand? Did the producers of the Emmy Awards do yet another funny "bit" where the host or a presenter points him out in the audience and the director of the Emmy Awards says, "Take Camera 4!" into his headset so that the live broadcast on whatever stupid network gives us a medium close-up of The Great Procrastinator grinning like someone that is in over his head as he slaps at a fake typewriter on his lap with the sausage fingers of his ham-hock hands?Maybe. #TPTWP didn't watch because the only thing worse than Senor Martin grinning like someone that is in over his head is Hollywood sticking their celebrity noses up each other's celebrity butts. But John and SeannieWan discuss the awards before they discuss possible spoilers... maybe... for The Final Episodes. If tho don't wisheth to hear thy spoilers... possible spoilers to be specific... maybe... be warned that spoiler talk begins at the 27:00-minute mark. Yakkity Sax, which was the great music during the chase scenes in The Benny Hill Show, will play as a final warning. If you continue to listen after Yakkity Sax, prepare to possibly be spoiled... maybe... But also prepare to experience intelligent, thoughtful, and entertaining conversation all about the possible spoilers... maybe...If you wish to check out the possible spoilers from the source of the possible spoilers, The Royal Link is Right the F' HERE.The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. The Mormonts You Know/ The Mormonts You Don't Know (15.2)
All of the Noble Houses of Westeros celebrate their own Lore- stories of heroic deeds by ancestors whose names are well-known not only by their descendants and vassals to their House but by nearly all Great and Noble Families throughout Westeros, as well as the smallfolk of The Realm. That is to say, all Noble Houses celebrate their Lore except House Mormont of the exceptionally boring Bear Island; a House which seems to have no Lore whatsoever. The Maesters and The Citadel have a difficult enough time to identify the patriarch of House Mormont even 2 generations past. They know that there were Mormonts in House Mormont because the history of Westeros retains events in which Mormonts belonging to House Mormont were involved. However, learning a name or any sort of personality trait to whichever Mormonts that certainly belonged to House Mormont that were a part of whatever history that Westeros history claims them to be a part of has proven to be far too difficult of a task for any of the "educated" population of Oldtown. While The Starks of Winterfell can be traced back thousands and thousands of years to The Age of Heroes, The Mormont family tree seems to go back only so far as Jeor Mormont... so like... 60-something years... albeit very incomplete for a 60-something year-old Family Tree. WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...Ser Jorah Mormont is the Westerosi character upon which The Promised Princes focus their research and discussion. However, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont of The Night's Watch, who is Ser Jorah's father, is also examined. So too then are the many Mormont women to whom Jeor is Father and/or Uncle, to whom Jorah is nephew and/or cousin, and allegedly whom the big-a## hairy Bears of Bear Island bring to "Mormont Makeout Point" at the top of "Makeout Hill" in the south-eastern woods and forests of Bear Island. John and SeannieWan pick up with The Mormont Family Tree... or lack thereof... and move along through Ser Jorah's narrative until the climax of A Game of Thrones and Ser Jorah's continuing struggles with childbirth. Also covered in conjunction- Robert's Rebellion, Ser Jorah's thoughts on The Crown Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, House Martell's loyalty to House Targaryen, The 4-1-1 on the Friendzone and at which point in his narrative Ser Jorah unwittingly began to back slowly into it. If you have not yet listened, it is advisable, though not completely necessary, to stream #TPTWP episode 15.1: Wood and Fish and Bears, Oh MyThis episode is important as the history of House Mormont's seat at Bear Island is covered and (possibly) [not likely] sheds a decent amount of metaphorical light upon many of the motivations and characteristics of both Ser Jorah and his disappointed father, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, 'The Old Bear.'The artwork used as the cover art for this episode was created by digital artist Valeria Jortagul. The piece is titled Jeor Mormont and it features an absolutely dynamite portrait of The Old Bear holding Longclaw with a bear's head at the weapon's hilt instead of Jon Snow's iconic direwolf where the bear had once been, or where the bear is as it were within the timeline of the digital art, and Mormont's Raven upon his shoulder- a bird of dark wings that generaly carries dark words, or rather just repeats the same word over and over again. Wood and Fish and Bears, Oh My (15.1)
What makes Bear Island, the seat of House Mormont, such a special place? Is it the endless amount of trees? No. Every keep and village in the North has trees. Is it the infinite fish that swim the waters surrounding Bear Island, there for the taking to feed the smallfolk? No. Fish are found in all the waters around The Known World. Is Bear Island special because of the tremendous amount of wood it produces? Surely wood is a resource that Bear Island can produce better than any other location in Westeros... No... Chopping down trees for wood is the most basic part of surviving in Westeros and again, there are trees everywhere. The beauty of nature and mankind in harmony is what makes Bear Island so special... Nope. Not at all. Bear Island is just a little island with a lot of trees, poor fishermen and their families.Bear Island is special and it stands out from the rest of Westeros because it is the most boring place to live in The Seven Kingdoms. Just ask the previous two Lords of Bear Island... if you can find them! They both abandoned their seat for certain death. WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...John and SeannieWan open a series on a character that may just be their favorite non-POV character- Ser Jorah Mormont, the exiled Lord of Bear Island. If anybody has been put through the ringer more times than Tyrion Lannister, it is his good buddy, Ser Jorah... Captain Friendzone! As with any ASoIaF/GoT character #TPTWP cover, some backstory and history are required to really understand the decisions and actions of Ser Jorah Mormont. The Wardens of Long Island begin by examining the... history...? of Bear Island. Why do people live there? Why is it the seat of House Mormont? How did they arrive on Bear Island? Who ruled the boring sh@@@y island before the Mormonts? What is the deal with the Bears? #TPTWP attempt to answer all these questions and more. The artwork for this episode is aptly titled Bear Island and was created by Dino Drawing for Fantasy Flight Games. The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. Chit-Chat-Mania, Brother! (Sp27)
The Lords of Chit-Chat talk Hulk Hogan, Tony Schiavone, Conrad Thompson, and professional wrestling as they continue their world championship run of analyzing HBO's #GoT news during this current extended period of time when there really is no #GoT news to analyze; and, as it pertains to the normal content of #TPTWP Podcast, plain ol' irregular conversation.WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...John attempts to tell SeannieWan about a funny remark he heard on the What Happened When? wrestling podcast and the attempt turns into a pretty F'n long and consistently entertaining conversation about WWE past and present. (Note: The Princes That Were Promised cannot talk about professional wrestling or WWE without giving a chair-shot out to the best weekly wrestling review podcast on the entirety of the Internet, whose hosts happen to be the "smarkiest smarks" of the entire IWC {Internet Wrestling Community for those "non-marks" (basically "smarky smarks," "smarky marks," "marks," and obviously "smarks" are the pro-wrestling fans that used to chant "CM Punk!" at live events whenever a bad match took place and now chant "Rusev Day!" for the same reason}- Wishful Booking. POSSIBLE SPOILERS for The Final Episodes of Game of Thrones occur around the 34-minute mark and last until just about the 42-minute mark. The music featured in this episode is Yakkety-Sax, as heard on The Benny Hill Show, and Game of Thrones Main Title Theme, by Ramin Djawadi as adapted by... somebody... as an 8-bit video game theme. The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. Disney Star Wars Means to Murder... (Sp26)
As it was during the difficult years of their Royal puberty, John and SeannieWan had heard the ridiculous talk among those that knew little to nothing of things that were important. It was the talk by these uneducated acquaintances that created rumors of sequels to the Star Wars Trilogy... rumors that somehow reached the frozen dead ears of Walt Disney as he layeth in purgatory and awaiting the technology to return his black soul to the Earth. When word of the prequels reached the Royal ears of thy Promised Princes, 'safe' was what they considered the beautiful story told in the 'Original Trilogy' as it could not be cheapened by sequels.'Twas the Apocalyptic Beast of Orlando- the avatar of the Dark Lord of Hollywood Yesteryear, a rodent disguised as an American Icon- that was woken by the impatient and impossible expectations of American moviegoers that were 'failed' by the 'Prequel Trilogy.' And yay did the Rodent Beast of Excess grow in power as the disappointment in the Prequels strengthened the misunderstood nostalgia the idiots of the world believed they felt for the 'Original Trilogy.'When the monsters created by 'The Matrix' and 'Shrek' had run George Lucas out of Hollywood, the slithering serpent hybrid of Mouse and American Greed rose from the rotted underbelly of corporate America and did then swallow up the souls of George Lucas and those that truly loved his story.WARNING! FOR HERE BE SPOILERS!!!SPOILERS INDEED ARE ALWAYS POSSIBLE FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones... AND ON THIS DAY, SPOILERS ABOUND FOR The Star Wars Trilogy, The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, The Star Wars Anthology films, and all associated media considered canon by Walt Disney's frozen, yet likely active brain...Born amidst salt and smoke- In a Galaxy Far, Far Away- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...It would have been too easy for #TPTWP to spend an hour destroying 'Solo: A Star Wars Story' and mocking the efforts put into the film. Even easier would it have been for John and SeannieWan to say 'We told you so' and remind the Royal listeners that they spoke many times of how bad an idea a Han Solo prequel film would be and how it would easily destroy the franchise in its current state. So instead, The Lords of Chit-Chat together forge the ultimate Chat RE: Disney Star Wars and the disconnect it has with Star Wars.'Solo,' 'The Last Jedi,' the announced Star Wars Anthology films that have since been shelved, Kathleen Kennedy, The Little Dark Lord Rian Johnson, the horrible people on Instagram that are not really lovers of Star Wars, the effects that bad decisions have on 'The Force Awakens,' Billy Dee Williams, The Great Creator George Lucas, and the business end of the Disney-Lucasfilm deal are all on the Lordly Table of Chat.Listen, enjoy, learn, and tell Kathleen Kennedy that she is causing you to feel dark and empty when you think of your childhood.Whatever you do, however, do not for a moment think that any actor or artist working with a script for a Disney Star Wars movie has any input in The Rodent Beast's campaign to devour your happiness.Perhaps some music will be heard in this episode, or perhaps not. If music was to be heard likely it would be Duel of the Fates written by the greatest of all time, John Williams, for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. However, this adaptation of Duel of the Fates would be performed by the utterly amazing Galactic Empire. You can find Galactic Empire right the F' HERE. SPOILERS!!!FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...The Princes That Were Promised chime in with their Royal-A** opinions of the Game of Thrones prequel shows that are seemingly all in production! What happened?!?It has a bit to do with HBO's new owners- America OnLine! What? Yup. AOL. Well... TimeWarner technically but there is no AOL in AOLTimeWarner without America OnLine... or AOL.Question 1- Does anybody use AOL?Question 2- How does that qualify AOL to operate a Premium Cable Network? Not just any premium cable network but THE Premium of Premium Cable Networks, HBO.Lots of corporations, lots of letters, lots of Westeros... and in the center of it all- The Great Procrastonist, The American Tolkien, The Turtle himself: Mr. George R. R. Martin. What in the Seven Hells is going on? #TPTWP try to figure it all out. Also, James is an amazing band. Also, Kit Harrington is a great actor. Also, we comment on the #MeToo movement, though prior to the James Gunn situation... which sucks. The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. Living and Dying In Westeros Lite (Sp24)
Herein layeth the Official Royal predictions, or perhaps the Royally Official predictions, of #TPTWP re: the fate of the remaining characters going into Season 8 of HBO's 'Game of Thrones.' Join John and SeannieWan as they make officially official which characters of Westeros Lite will still be among the fictional living at the end of Season 8 and which characters will be dead both fictionally and never really lived non-fictionally. SPOILERS!!!FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...This episode will be the record as it has been recorded and likely released before any legit spoilers for The Final Episodes have reached the Interweb. Ergo, vis a vis, this episode will be fun to return to towards the end of 2019 when The Final Episodes have finished airing. Will John and SeannieWan be correct when all is said and done? Obviously. In addition to the Royally Bold predictions, The Princes That Were Promised speak to the latest non-spoiler news, and attempt to make sense of the twitter feeds from the poor bastards that seem to live outside the King's Landing set. There is also a Royal acknowledgment that #TPTWP's most daring theory was incorrect... George R. R. Martin, as it turns out, does not put on a fake beard and become Gardner Dozois so that he can edit short story collections without being bothered about The Son of Kong. All that and more as The Watchers On The Couch return to Westeros Lite. The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. A Catelyn of Swords (14.3)
SPOILERS!!!FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...Be it in bad taste to say that Catelyn Stark's narrative in #ASoIaF comes to a screeching halt?Mayhaps you feel it is if you are a big fan of Lady Catelyn. However, if you are a big fan of Lady Catelyn, this is likely not a podcast you will enjoy listening to. That said, has anyone really gone on record saying that Catelyn Stark is their favorite character from A Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones? Not bloody likely.#TPTWP pick up where Catelyn left off with the irreparable damage caused by her not-well-thought-out decision to release The Kingslayer from Riverrun's dungeons. From there, the piss-poor decision-making seems to migrate from Lady Catelyn to her suddenly clueless son, King Robb, who somehow blanks on the lifetime of lessons he learned from his wise father during three or four key moments in A Storm of Swords; moments that ultimately lead to the downfall of not only him, his dingbat mother, and his ancient House, but also hundreds of thousands of Northmen and Rivermen who were gullible enough to bend the knee to a sixteen-year-old boy and his overzealous mom.Kick back, grab a beverage, and shake your head in frustration along with John and SeannieWan as they dive deep into the Catelyn Stark narrative from A Storm of Swords and keep it as painless as recounting Catelyn Stark's decisions can possibly be.The beautifully detailed cover art for A Catelyn of Swords is titled A Price of Honour. The artist is Nejna Jasna and more of her professional, exceptional work can be found on her home page, which by the way, is located right the F HERE.The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan. A Catelyn of Kings (14.2)
SPOILERS!!!FOR ALL PUBLISHED BOOKS IN #GRRM'S A Song of Ice and Fire AS WELL AS ALL TELEVISED EPISODES OF HBO'S Game of Thrones...Born amidst salt and smoke- Just off the Long Island Expressway- Beneath a bleeding star...Catelyn Stark made some key decisions during the first volume of ASoIaF. These decisions brought not just her House and her family to the brink of war and then beyond, but they also worked to tear apart the seems that were holding the Realm together. Each successive choice she made within A Game of Thrones acted as a small rock bouncing down a metaphorical mountainside packed with deadly boulders. It was these boulders that were loosed into an avalanche that fell upon The Seven Kingdoms in the form of a horrible and violent Civil War.In A Clash of Kings, Catelyn Stark does not fool us as easily, but she does try. The Worst Lady of Winterfell in the history of The North takes a much more passive approach to decision-making in the second volume of ASoIaF. More is the pity, as it seems most all of the choices that she makes in ACoK are insignificant. If there is one thing that John and SeannieWan have learned in their dealings with Lady Cat, it is that she is the 'Worst,' and despite her decision-making dormancy for the majority of A Clash of Kings, The Lady of Winterfell more than makes up for it with a doooooozy that not only drastically changes the fortunes and options for House Stark, Tully, Umber, Mallister, Bracken, Blackwood, Karstark, Vance, Piper, Manderly, Glover, and every other loyal House in The North and The Riverlands, but also leads The Wardens of Long Island to conclude that Catelyn Stark hadn't so much learned her lesson from the ramifications of her poor decision-making as she was waiting and gearing herself up for the Mother of All Bad Decisions. The cover art for this episode of #TPTWP is titled Cat n Brienne. It was created by artist Joe Harty and more of his colorful and animated pieces, many within the fantasy genre and ASoIaF specifically, can be found on his website... which just so happens to be right the F HERE.The Princes That Were Promised are John and SeannieWan.
