In this inaugural episode we give an introduction to Project Roots and Wings (PRW), who we are, and what we do. We spend time talking about why we chose the name, it’s intentionality, and how it embraces freedom and wholeness. We dive into the power of our own personal story by sharing stories from our past and present that highlight the journey and birth of PRW and why we believe so strongly in our vision and mission.     We finish up talking about some of the goals for PRW and how we see ourselves as the “Rock that breaks the waves.”  For us this means our goal is not for you to agree with everything we say.  Our goal is to challenge your current thought process and ultimately to help you think more critically and thoughtfully.   References   The John Maxwell Leadership Podcast   500 Days of Summer   Seven Habits for Highly Effective People

In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Viktor Frankl   Today Scott shares about the deep thoughts that he has been wrestling with for the last few weeks around the story he is telling himself about himself.  This struggle has been challenging his identity at very deep levels.  This is a story been telling himself for the last thirty years.  It is a bit confessional, again.  It is Scott’s hope and prayer that this podcast encourages you to ask yourself some deep questions about who you are.  Strip away the non-essential and find your anchor point.  For Scott it is belief that he is a Son of God.  What’s your anchor point?   Our Mission: We help you DISCOVER Guiding Life Principles, IMPLEMENT a Vision that empowers you to ACHIEVE Optimal Performance  and CREATE a life that is Flourishing.   This mission is a driving force that runs throughout our coaching and mentoring here at Project Roots and Wings.    We believe Discovering the road to a life that is thriving Is a journey worth taking.  We help you build the bridge between who you are and who you are BECOMING!   Resources: Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com
Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between who you are and who you are  BECOMING!   “I can be grateful for my experiences, or I can be worse off because of my experiences and let my experiences be the driver of my life rather than me being the driver of my own experience, and so I don’t think that there’s any experience you can have that you can’t be better off without if you choose to contextualize them in a way that benefits you and makes you better.”  Dr. Benjamin Hardy   Today Scott jumps back in to the podcast after choosing to take care of his soul.  Today Scott shares about the slump he hit after learning some things about the story he had been telling himself for the last thirty years.  This is a long time coming.  It is a bit confessional.  Scott provides some context as to why when people have big gains can sometimes self-sabotage.  The inner monologue we are having with ourselves needs to change so that we can overcome and grow into the next iteration of ourselves. Resources:   The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers' Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success   Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com

Scott and Emily discuss what it means and how our perception of the past shapes our view of the present and especially the future. This was a podcast that Scott and Emily did a few takes to get this one ready for release.  It is a topic that Emily and Scott don't necessarily see eye to eye on. They believe that modeling how they have discussions around our table is important. We decided to release this because it is a topic that is very close to Scott’s heart and at center piece of his coaching program.  Scott and Emily encourage you to come with an open heart and mind and be challenged and maybe even disagree.   Our Mission: We help you DISCOVER Guiding Life Principles, IMPLEMENT a Vision that empowers you to ACHIEVE Optimal Performance  and CREATE a life that is Flourishing. Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between who you are and who you are  BECOMING! “And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” Ephesians 5:21 NLT Today Scott and Emily have a deep conversation with their mentor and friend Dr. David Williams. David was their philosophy and theology professor in college and the person who performed their wedding ceremony.   During the conversation, David takes Scott and Emily back to their memories of classes in college as they wrestle with finding questions to ask amidst topics that are core to them and Project Roots and Wings. David has a distinctly communal and definitively Christian take on marriage.  They discuss how western culture’s push towards individualism is impacting marriage. They all have a strong desire to reshape our understanding of Christ and the Gospel, specifically when it comes to marriage.   This was a podcast that Scott and Emily had to take a few days to digest.  When they share their story they always point back to David’s positive influence on their lives.  If you are wondering how Scott and Emily have come to understand marriage and life in general, this episode will give you a lot of insight.  Scott and Emily encourage you to come with an open heart and mind and let David’s words challenge you, like they challenged them. Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com
Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between who you are and who you are  BECOMING! To love is to be vulnerable.” – C.S. Lewis Today Scott and Emily have the pleasure of having a conversation with their friends Jenny and Nathan Diggs.  Scott and Emily have said from the beginning that there is power in story.   Scott and Emily loved having these two share theirs.  If you listen closely you will pick up on wisdom and insights that they gained in a relatively short amount of time. But don't let the fact that these two have been married for two years stop you from hearing what they have to say.  We believe the wisdom they share will help you navigate the issues and opportunities that may be challenging you in your relationship. Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com
Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between who you are and who you are  BECOMING!   “We are kept from our goal, not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal.” Robert Berault   Today Scott and Emily go deeper into some of the concepts that were brought up in episodes 48 and 50.  They delve into the question about identity shaping one’s goals or one’s goals shaping identity.  The first view is based on a fixed mindset and is limiting in scope, while the second is a growth mindset and is limitless.  It is a belief that future success is not determined by past experiences. Scott shares how his community and the books he is reading have caused a deep and fundamental shift in self-perception.  This shift has had seismic ramifications.  The outcome of this shift is Scott is seeing his future and the future of his family as a really big destination.  The freedom to see a future self that is pulling him forward is helping him heal and reframe his past.     Our Mission statement is: We help you DISCOVER Guiding Life Principles, IMPLEMENT a Vision that empowers you to ACHIEVE Optimal Performance  and CREATE a life that is Flourishing.   This mission is a driving force that runs throughout our coaching and mentoring here at Project Roots and Wings.  We believe Discovering the road to a life that is thriving Is a journey worth taking.  We help you build the bridge between who you are and who you are BECOMING!   References: Here are the books that were referenced in this episode.   The Gap and The Gain: The High Achievers' Guide to Happiness, Confidence, and Success Personality Isn't Permanent: Break Free from Self-Limiting Beliefs and Rewrite Your Story Mindset: The New Psychology of Success   Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com
Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between who you are and who you are  BECOMING!   “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”  Viktor Frankl Alchemy is defined as, A seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination.  If one holds to the belief that the past happens to you then choice may be challenging.  If you believe that your past happens for you, then you see choice as a step in the process of transformation.  The Power of many positive choices made over time and the accompanying decisiveness, are keys to understanding the story of today’s guest.  Choice is transformative in a positive or negative way.  It is our prayer that today’s episode will encourage you to choose yourself and value yourself.   Scott and his guest Maceo Tendaji talk about the choices that he made early in his life and how they shaped his character and habits.  Maceo shares how he found his passion and calling converge after a class in high school tapped into his creative core.  We hope that Maceo’s story is inspiring and encouraging.  The heart of this podcast is how turning the word “NO” from a negative and demotivating energy, to a more positive and motivating one has transformed how he approaches life. This podcast was so fun to do. References: Find Maceo on Instagram here You can find Maceo’s website here Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com

Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between WHO YOU ARE and WHO YOU ARE BECOMING!   Project Roots and Wings building a bridge between WHO YOU ARE and WHO YOU ARE BECOMING!   Today Scott is joined by his friend Jeff Addo.  Those who know Jeff know him as a musical artist, or a friend, a fiancé, or any number of identities that Jeff lives out.  Scott and Jeff jump in to a conversation that Scott and Emily have been having for over a decade.  What makes a GOOD person.  This is not merely a theological question, but a deeply philosophical one.  It is a driving force that runs throughout our coaching and mentoring here at Project Roots and Wings.    This episode started out with Jeff giving his definition of masculinity.  That definition became a launching point for Scott and Jeff to take the conversation to the need for strong and comprehensive male role models, the importance of family, and how certain principles have guided Jeff from an early age to become the man he is today.  Some of these guiding principles are: Efficacy - The belief that you can accomplish what you set out to do. Integrity - Adherence to moral and ethical principles; soundness of moral character; honesty. Authenticity - Not false or copied, representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified. Humility - Not thinking of yourself as less but thinking of yourself less often. Gratitude - The quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful.   This is not meant to be an exhaustive list.  These are the ones that stuck out to Scott as he was listening and editing.   If you want to be a GOOD man or woman it is imperative that you have core principles that guide you and a community that supports you.   References:   Jeff Addo   Interested in learning more about coaching with us email Scott at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com or go to : www.projectrootsandwings.com
Welcome to 2022!!  Scott and Emily are back after an extended break.  In today’s episode they will go into some of the circumstances that surrounded this decision to disengage from the external areas of their lives, podcast, social media etc. to focus on the internal world that they saw was being neglected.  Scott and Emily share honest and candid insights and reflections of the last quarter of 2021 and how that time challenged and encouraged them to change the story that they were telling.    References:   Anti-Fragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb   Email us at: scott@projectrootsandwings.com   Find us at: www.projectrootsandwings.com
