Here are ten things I learned from Chi: Learn how to twerk. In the end it’s your job to figure your shit out. You have to get out to find your community. Show up!! Surround yourself with a good network. You don’t have to conquer your fears to pursue something that is scary. Lean into uncomfortable moments and periods of your life. Breathe bitch. Take a moment to hear yourself think. Don’t follow your friends.
Today we’re sitting down with Joshua Seitz. Josh is an aspiring entrepreneur and software developer based in Austin, Texas. He also plans to become hippie and travel the country in a van. I’m going to answer this question in two parts. The first part will be how to evaluate your worth when applying for jobs or pursuing a job promotion or raise. The second part will be evaluating your value as a person and what that looks like in your relationships. Professional Don’t undervalue yourself. You are worth so much more than you think you are. Understand that the market plays a role (pay scale) Understand the company you want to work for (Glassdoor) Evaluate what you’re making now in comparison to pay scale and Glassdoor The market is a good indicator of what to ask for but understand that companies don’t pay everyone equally. Always ask for way more than your worth. Go to the career and professional development center at whatever college you went to (if you can) Personal life Don’t undervalue yourself. You deserve the fucking world. Put yourself first (within reason). Be your own advocate. Be vocal about your standards. Over the next couple of months, I’m going to be interweaving some really awesome questions/topic ideas I’ve gotten from the community into the show. This week I’m talking about how to know when you should move on from your job. And I added a few action steps at the end if when you do some thinking about your situation you find yourself thinking that you want to start moving forward. I talk about needs, wants, goals, and how we can map those things to our current job. I also talk about writing resumes, updating your portfolio, and reaching out to your network.
Today, I’m super excited because I finally got Ms. Khadijah Sawyer on the show! I met Khadeja at work and we immediately hit it off because we started talking about money and financial plans and I haven’t met many people in person who like to talk about money and the things they have learned about money so candidly. It’s was very refreshing. I think one of the most exciting things about her is that she just recently bought a house and she’s only 23 years old! When I first proposed having her on the show, I thought we would talk about just that! The fact that she has been able to buy a home this young and at a time where it seems like people our age are not anywhere near that goal. As we started talking, I realized that what’s more interesting is the fact that she’s in a place in her life where she has the opportunity to do something amazing and big like buy a house! You guys know I have such a terrible track record with making good financial decisions and over the past two years I have been slowly cleaning up my act. So we’re going to talk about not only Khadijah’s journey with finances, but my own. Most importantly, we’re going to outline what getting your shit together really looks like. Stick around at the end of the episode for bonus pieces of wisdom and value I draw out of Khadijah and I’s conversation. Also, Khadijah and I are not financial planners and we are not giving financial advice. We’re just really into talking about money and finances! this is for entertainment purposes only and I hope it provides you with information and resources that could be helpful in your own journey. Today we’re talking about letting go. Something I have never been great at. Sometime I need to do a little bit of letting go. How do you let go? Here are the 5 steps I use. Step 1: Acknowledge how you feel. Step 2: Accept how you feel. Step 3: Acknowledge what you can and can’t control Step 4: React with grace and love Step 5: Be grateful for what is Royalty-Free Music Attributions: Intro: Take It Easy by Bad Snacks Outro: Hanging Out by Bruno E.

Since doing that episode, things have gotten better, but I’ve realized some really important things about my imagination and how I can channel my daydreaming tendencies. Today we’re talking about procrastination... or rather... perfectionism. If you’re listening to this podcast, I’m going to assume three things: 1) that you’re creative, 2) you want to be happy and fulfilled in a career that challenges you AND 3) you strive for perfection in the things that challenge you. When it comes to perfectionism and procrastination, I want to talk about when our perfectionism gets in the way of doing the thing that we love. That’s what the show is about. It’s about doing the things that we love. But sometimes we get in our own way. 5 pretty simple ways to get yourself out of the, “all talk and no action idea” stage of perfectionism. Have a clear and nonnegotiable deadline. Pick a date. Stick to it. Pressure is good. Write it down. Pick up a pen. Write. Reflect. Talk to a friend. Ask a friend what they think. Be open. When all else fails, force yourself to start. Just do it. Keep your mind open to the idea that your idea is allowed to change.Sometimes your first idea is not as good as you think. Even good ideas can be bad.
