Nordic Capital is a group of private equity funds focusing primarily on investments in the Nordic region. There’s about 24 in the portfolio right now and Luvatais one of those, focused on the metals environment, specifically copper. With commodities costs rising on almost all fronts, their procurement challenges are far from unique - but coming from a relatively small company, their solutions have to be truly 'out of the box' to make sure they keep up with their more heavyweight competitors. To find out more about what they are doing in the procurement space, we spoke to Nadia Janssens, Procurement Director at Luvata, part of Nordic Capital, at the CPO Roundtables conference in London.

Gustavo Araujo on Connecting a Global Supply Chain

When Elementis Specialties started looking to expand its global footprint, it was clear that global demand planning tools would be necessary to connect disparate systems across the chemical supply chain. Gustavo Araujo, Supply Chain Director, had to guide his team through the challenges that come with implementing a new global system. The company is still transitioning into this platform and learning how to align the supply chain so that all parts of the process are optimized. For every process, the company now sits down and does a map of the "as is" model, or how the company handles it now, and then maps a "to be" model, or how it will be adjusted. Listen to him here as he discusses in detail how Elementis is working toward better alignment across the supply chain. He will speak further on this topic at the SCMchem conference, which you can learn more about here.

Assessing Risk on a Continuum, not just Once or Twice

Risk assessment is a big part of a firm’s financial management plan and important to procurement teams. While it’s not always a direct responsibility for procurement and it doesn’t always have a dedicated team – it can’t be ignored especially given events like earthquakes, tsunamis and other catastrophes that can’t be avoided.   In the following sound bite, Joseph Richardson, Manager of Global Corporate Procurement at FMC Technologies, talks to Carina Kuhl, Executive Producer of the ProcureCon events, about the importance of handling risk management on a continuum as opposed to dealing with it as a single event. This year ProcureCon will take place in Atlanta at the JW Marriott Buckhead from September 12 to 14. You can visit the website to learn more about the program.
